Thank you Darlene this book was introduced to me in December 2016. I was in a daze and I was at a Barnes & Noble. I have been in recovery 4 years at this point. Subconsciously and instinctively I retrieve this book I did not actually understand the book until December 2017 after being in a very bad codependent addictive relationship that ended but my journey to healing started. That other seminal works on toxic shame and addiction and ultimately the adult children movement saved me. To this day Darlene makes more sense to me than anybody but that's just me. I would hurt anybody to pick up this book but much like recovery it won't mean anything until you need it. There are reasons for everything and I was taught a heavy life lesson in a very harmful way. Pain is a great teacher and motivator. Student is ready the master will appear and this is why this occurred many times. Again God bless thank you Darlene

Thank you Darlene for your insights. They have helped me to accept myself and to start learning to treat myself with compassion and respect.

You've mentioned that intimacy is better when there is vulnerability. Strangely, I am living in a world where if you show your vulnerability you are exposing yourself to predators - a feeling where you are bleeding in a pool with sharks. How to be vulnerable when you know you'll be eaten? Why I have a feeling that if I show some weak spot, whoever is around me only waits to see it and manipulate it for their purposes, against me? Am I in that kind of culture, mentality? Am I attracting these people?

We're not meant to be intimate with everyone - not our boss, casual acquaintances, or anyone with whom it's unsafe to be vulnerable. See my blog, "Your Intimacy Index," at www.whatiscodependency.com/intimacy, which explains the necessary ingredients for intimacy.

Yesss. The Book that has helped but I'm not the first time through it yet. I'm doing a online workshops, a student, of the 12 Steps. Which in the wrong hands can use the Steps as shamed based.bob
