You've described me too well. Do what you would do if you were single.....sounds good. I'm 76 now but better late than never. Thank you Darlene

I've been learning a lot the past year about codependency. Although I have been working hard on it and come a long way, one of the ways I think that's been hard on me is the fact that I keep coming across people who don't really make effort to create friendship with me, I'm not going after them, what I used to do in desperation, sadly. How can I get better when no one shows that they want to be friends? I spend time alone, but I do my best to avoid that and volunteer, and spend time with others when the door opens, which is rare, and spend time with my dad, he's older and his wife died almost 2 years ago, my birth mother. He's set in his ways and happy with his life, I'm finally starting mine, and I don't have a lot of help. I want to be in an intimate relationship, but there's a lack of that around, I've recently turned 36. So yeah, long way to go... Thank you for sharing your information and reading this.

I was raised by my grand-parents who survived WW2 in Germany. My grand-father escaped from Russian Prison Camp. He was a very strict man and I think that my grand-ma was co-dependent and so was I.

I love your presentations on codependency. I wish that you didn't use young mothers as your example of a mom who sees their babies as an extension of themselves and a chance to boost their self-esteem. Young moms have enough negative assumptions about them. There are moms of all ages who do this and it is damaging, and their are some young moms who raise children with healthy boundaries and self-esteem. :) Thanks.

Thanks for pointing this out, Alexandra. You're absolutely right. Moms of all ages do this. Dads, too. I don't recall what I had in mind at that moment - probably young girls who want a child to give them a sense of worth.
