Definitely. I looked at my analytics and realized that my average watch time in my most popular video was about 5 minutes, but the first ad didn’t appear until after 6 minutes into the video. I added one at around the 4 minute mark and that video went from making me an average $30/day to $40/day basically overnight, and my views were not affected. Get them coins, Gillian! 😁 💰💰💰
I agree about the mid roll ads. I dislike when a video has a ton of them I just don’t bother watching. I think one mid ad is okay. Thanks for sharing! Love this type of video ☺️

This is clean and very easy to watch. I do not remember how I get here. I know it was my parents who brought me in the world. Right about know, Corona did its damage, my Wife just interrupted me as she forgot to take her mask due to the compulsary wearing of a mask in the UK today. If I was to do a channel - I would do one with content to do with... Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful stay whilst here on planet earth and learn to be Altruistic. We can only preserve the planet, it's contents, the lovely Nature that surrounds us, family relations and everything else in-between by practising ALTRUISM. Do not buy on credit, save for what you want and do not waste your money on interest payments unless you are purchasing a HOUSE or a CAR. Credit cards should only be used in times of emergency.
I totally agree with your logic on the mid-video ads. I will often stop watching or be less motivated to watch certain channels when I know the TH-camr runs mid-video ads. 👍😊
I realize that the content creator depends on the ads so I do not skip it. I just turn off the sound while it runs UNLESS the ad is about something I despise, or the person onscreen is annoying or if the ad is more than 1 minute long... then I SKIP it. One video I watched had a 12 MINUTE ad. I could not believe my eyes
That's why I like your videos! You're straight to the point. Your channel also supports everyone who is willing to put some effort in the videos. I don't watch TV anymore only YT. Now we have younger generations that got used to this platform..

I"m not bothered by ads so I think its a trade off...if the mid roll ads are an issue, just do overlays....I think you are leaving a lot of $$ on the table unnecessarily. I didn't even notice you didn't have mid rolls until you mentioned it, I'm so used to seeing them. While you may loose some people I think its very few. Most understand that content isn't really free so they don't mind a TH-camr making money.

You have an excellent presentation style and you clearly and succinctly explain your topics. As I get started on launching two businesses I have found your channel to be a valuable resource to keep me focused on the important things I need to do to make my channels as successful ay yours (hopefully). I just wanted to say that I like your thoughts about allowing TH-cam to insert ads during the video in addition to the beginning and end. It is refreshing to hear someone else is concerned about how those in-video ads affect their viewers' experience. I also find those ads during the videos annoying...mostly because the ads do not appear at "normal" breaks in the video like you would see in a broadcast TV show. But at the same time, the significant increase in revenue that allowing the in-video ads can produce is terribly tempting. So I have a question for you...can you provide TH-cam with timeline positions where you will allow in-video ads to be inserted...or is the insertion point (and the number of ad insertions) totally at the discretion of TH-cam? If I could control the insertion points (and the number of ads) I would be far more comfortable with giving TH-cam the option of adding in-video ads to the videos I will be producing. I am just curious at this point about all this as I am just at the point where I am building the websites that will be the foundation for the TH-cam channels I will be creating.
CPM variability is based on advertisers ability to generate a return on their ad investment. I have a Family Channel which is usually a low CPM. Ads don't turn into sales as much. For this channel people advertised business related products are much more likely to purchase. So the CPM is on a the higher side.
My takeaway was you are very smart and not scared to share your wisdom with us. My first 2 videos were so bad that I didn’t even post it! Now I know what I did wrong and I am motivated to reshoot my videos ( product reviews) Again . Thanks for all this good content.
One given with you tube viewers is it's difficult to anticipate what kind of video they will watch. But another truth is, if the video is about teaching the viewer to make money, chances are your video will get seen more than if it wasn't about making money....Everyone wants a steady income...

Hello Gillian! Very interesting video. I have a question: how do you know which keywords are paid the most in a niche? For instance I have a channel on Italian recipes but how can I know which keywords would pay me more in this niche? 🤗 I tried using Adwords to check the price of some keywords for advertisers but when I used them my cpm wasn’t higher so I still don’t get it. Not Gillian but I can answer this question. Competitive CPMs are based on how many advertisers are bidding for the keyword. Example, the property/real estate niche has huge CPMs, so does tech and gaming as they are niches where the keyword is very expensive to bid on therefore creators will be paid higher CPMs. Food is also really hot right now in media in general but for specific niches. Keep researching your niche and use keyword tools to find out the CPC to get an idea of it's popular or not.

I enjoy your videos and wouldn't mind midroll ads at all. Graham Stephan is one of my absolute favorites and I never mind ad breaks. Most are skippable, so it doesn't require more than 5 seconds and a click. Zero hassle. Just my opinion though.

Really appreciate that you actually think of your viewers experience when placing your ads. I too dislike ads in the middle of videos and tend to stop watching videos with ads randomly placed in the middle. I think; just like TV; placing ads is an art and should be done intentionally, well spread out every 20 minutes or so.

CPM isn't the amount of money that TH-cam pays you per 1,000 views. It's how much money advertisers paid TH-cam for every 1,000 monetized playbacks. Note that views and monetized playbacks are counted separately because sometimes users are able to watch your video without ever seeing an ad, even if the video is monetized. So since TH-cam takes 45%, of what those advertisers paid, you should think of your actual take home amount as RPM (revenue per mille), which is the remaining 55%. So when Roberto Blake shows that a video has a $50 CPM, he's not making $50 per 1,000 views, he's making $27.50 (55% of $50) for every 1,000 monetized playbacks, or every 1,000 times someone actually is served an ad. So take your monetized playbacks divided by 1,000 and multiply that by your CPM. Then multiply by .55 to get your total AdSense revenue. Then add that to any TH-cam Premium or merchandise revenue, etc. and you'll get your total estimated revenue

Calculated out this should be a revenue amount of about $116,000 instead of the $64,000 that you show. Is this the total revenue that is shared between the creator and TH-cam?
What I understood, this was avarage cpm on her channel. Every video have different cpm so summary that making this avg number. What ofc can be not accurate :s

CPM isn't the amount of money that TH-cam pays you per 1,000 views. It's how much money advertisers paid TH-cam for every 1,000 monetized playbacks. Note that views and monetized playbacks are counted separately because sometimes users are able to watch your video without ever seeing an ad, even if the video is monetized.
So since TH-cam takes 45%, of what those advertisers paid, you should think of your actual take home amount as RPM (revenue per mille), which is the remaining 55%. So when Roberto Blake shows that a video has a $50 CPM, he's not making $50 per 1,000 views, he's making $27.50 (55% of $50) for every 1,000 monetized playbacks, or every 1,000 times someone actually is served an ad.
So take your monetized playbacks divided by 1,000 and multiply that by your CPM. Then multiply by .55 to get your total AdSense revenue. Then add that to any TH-cam Premium or merchandise revenue, etc. and you'll get your total estimated revenue

I was just wondering though, in the numbers you gave for annual revenue, you showed monetized playbacks as 7.1 million and the Playback CPM was $16.33. Calculated out this should be a revenue amount of about $116,000 instead of the $64,000 that you show. Is this the total revenue that is shared between the creator and TH-cam?
What I understood, this was avarage cpm on her channel. Every video have different cpm so summary that making this avg number. What ofc can be not accurate :s
