I like the room. Two little suggestions: 1- remove the geometric rug off the back of the sofa. I think the eye would flow through the room smoother. 2- if the short lampshade really bugs you, hot glue a 2" tassel ribbon, same colour as the shade, around the bottom of the shade. It will lengthen the shade and add a bit of pizzaz. It is your home so whatever you love is just right.
If I can just say. I love your style because it feels real. That is why I am here. If you want to tone things down, I would start with the blanket on the couch and possibly some slip covers for the wingback chairs in a stripe, solid or simple classic gingham check. But I don't live in your home. You need to make it what you love. For you and your family. Because your happiness with the design and layout is most important of all. Loving the fall wardrobe! I am seeking out similar pieces for myself.
I love the RL look on you! The jeans and black jacket or blazer make you look tall and lean. You know, I just bought a blue and white ginger jar lamp on FBMP, and the neck/hardware was showing. I thought it was because it came with a more modern cylinder style shade rather than a shade that tappers at the top and flairs out at the bottom. But when I found the shade I wanted, the hardware was still showing. So, I looked at it for a day, and the idea came to me to try a smaller harp. I hunted through the lamps I have and found one. The smaller harp brought the shade down two inches, and I'm so happy with the look now. May be you can try that simple fix over changing out hardware or hunting for a new shade.
Don't worry about rules. Buy and collect YOUR favorite things and your house will come together. If you're not feeling the lamp, sell or donate the lamp. The lamp shade is not right for that lamp because you can see the light switch. Love your home!
Wow, love the blends of all your cushion prints on the radiator (?) to the right of your fire place - beautiful! Also like how you have the inner core of seating around the coffee table, and yhe outer ring of small two seater, piano etc. Also love your wall paper and large area rug!
I have lots of patterns in my living room too .Thick tights would look good with those boots and skirt ,the lamp ok would look better with a different shade as you say .
I just love your home!! After viewing all the patterns together on the collage I’d say take that Southwest print blanket off, and take the mustard yellows out. The Southwestern blanket is amazing and would make a great “hero” piece in its own area, like coordinating with dark woods. I am incorporating the Ralph Lauren look into my wardrobe, too! The Academia look/preppy/British Countryside is such a favorite of mine. I found a few thrifted things, too. Way to go with the stripes-on-stripes! I just saw that in another video talking about Ralph Lauren- The YT channel “What to Wear: Classic fashion for women” has a great one on British Countryside too.
@@OldWorldFarmHouseoooh I forgot to say that I am in the same boat as you- I love the RL style but when I try styling my pieces like I see in the pictures, it comes off as a little too structured or menswear for my personal taste. So I too am playing around with it. So far the best thing for me is to swap for a pencil skirt or a bohemian skirt (I love boho) and that brings an element of femininity to it.
Hi!! Thanks for another sweet glimpse into your lovely home. ❤ The lamp looks nice! The viewers who suggested a shorter harp came up with a clever solution! 💡
What a great community you are creating here! Lots of suggestions that i would ditto. ( Smaller harp on lamp & i would find a new place to use the rug and the mustard yellow. I love them but they may be better in another room) The only other suggestion I would add is for the corner with the 3 lamps. Could you move the piano lamp to the left side of the piano? I think this may look a little more balanced.
Thanks for the tips! I’m glad you like the community. I ❤️ you guys 😊 funny you should mention the piano lamp bc it was on the other side and I moved it to use an outlet and forgot to move it back. Yes, I think you’re right about the balance!
individually i think all the pieces are beautiful but some of the furniture isn't grouped or intentional so it comes off as plonked in the room and then gives yard sale vibes. i agree about lamps with such a big room, you have them down pat and situated correctly. I would do more picture groupings, nix the throw blanket, it's too modern. One big thing that is missing is life in the room. You need to bring in plants, cut branch stems or florals. I would forage them from your property.
I love your style and that you are so playful with it. When I want to be more feminine I have either pearls or a delicate necklace. Add earrings and a lace trimmed cami under and instant feminine. I love the lamp. It’s a definite vibe. To drop the shade, get a smaller harp. Those shades are crazy expensive to get now. When you go buy the harp take the lamp and the shade. I didn’t. Huge mistake and ended up returning the first one. The lamp lady did warn me. If floral is the vibe for the living room then fully commit. I like floral vibes. You can get chalk paint to paint the wingback chairs. I painted a channel back chair because reupholstering it was going to be over $800. Not in budget. I do love your living room. It looks like home.
Do I like your hideous lamp? Yes I do. I use to have a lamp that showed its parts. I could not stand it either. At the thrift store I found a shorter U shape metal part that attaches to the lamp and holds the shade on by the topper. If that makes any sense. I guess what I want you to do say is, you can get the hardware to bring the shade down. Your RL look…LOVE! I had to have the jacket so I just ordered it. (It’s on sale at JCrew now) Thanks for another good video. You have become my early Sunday morning coffee companion 😂
The lamp shade just needs a shorter harp. Then the lamp shade will sit lower. Check your other lamps and see if you can switch them around. The lamp is precious.
I think your yellow table cloth and cushion work well in the room - they're the right colour intensity with your large floral chintz and give a lift to the overall look. I think chair on left the muted marbled pink chair does not work - colour shows as drab in comparison to the more true colours you have going. Sage couch is ok, and although throw on it is good colourbwise, i think the boldnessbof the print throws the balance. Perhaps with a lovely motleybassortment of cushions, you could pull it back to more of a harmonious blend. I like what you're doing :) Def agree that the shade is too high - can you change it for a deeper one?
Can you go over the general design rules for patterns? I have never thought of it! I like big floral patterns too. But I tend to have one other item with same colors but much smaller or subdued pattern. Then lots of wood floor and old wood furniture and art on the wall. But my rooms are smaller than yours. Your house looks so big! I think your big room can carry off more patterns. To me it looks shabby chic which is so cozy and vintage.
I love your English Farmhouse style...it would fit right in with anything I have seen or read about that style. William Morris wallpaper, Charlotte Gaisford fabrics, etc. Two rules I go by...live with what I love around me and...I do what I want.😉 The bottom line is that nobody really cares....oh, they will have opinions but my home, my way.
I like that new lamp next to your loveseat. I like that tablecloth and I think that yellow pillow would look good on the green chair. You could move that chair and table over to that corner on the left side of your fireplace. You could move your pink chair next to your couch across from the other chair. You could put that blanket on the pink chair. Maybe moving stuff around wouldn’t work, though. I usually find out after I move something, unfortunately! You have such a nice living room. I like your prints.
I actually live all the colors and patterns and the throw on the couch. I just think there might be to many leggy things in that one corner (sidetable, chairs and rocking chair) while the rest of the room is „legless“ 😂. But if you need the seating keep it.
Oh! For the ugly lamp.. can the harp be removed? I wonder if someone switched out the harp at some point. I just ordered a couple of harps off Amazon for two vintage lamps I have. For some reason the harps were gigantic and the shades were looking wonky! Thanks for the video.
All the colours are fine for me except the only thing that bothers me is the little chair nearest to the far right (near the window). I think its too small comparing to the other chairs around your living room. Otherwise I think your room looks very cozy and English country 😊 All the lamps are pretty. Perhaps you can simply get a bigger shade or add on a dark colored 2 to 3 inch tassel to cover the hardware. Kathleen your floors are beautiful too! Your fall gear makes you look classy. Loook forward to your next..
It looks way too busy. The chairs and sofa look very tired. With the rug , I would do a solid sofa and striped or checked chairs. Good luck with having fun decorating your living room.
I like the room. Two little suggestions: 1- remove the geometric rug off the back of the sofa. Thanks. I hadn’t thought of fringe!
Great tips, I also thought it’d be good to remove that throw from the couch
If you like the shade on your new lamp, try changing out the harp. A shorter lamp harp will lower the lamp shade and cover the switch.
I will! This is a great idea 💡

Thanks for the tips! Noted!
I would just get a longer lampshade to cover up the light switch on your floral lamp. The lamp does go with your old world home 🏡
Thanks!
love the yellow tablecloth
🙏 thank you
cool and eclectic. your home is cozy and warm. live with your finds then decide. cheers. (I like the lamp) just change the shade lol
Thank you! Yes I think so😆
Ditto

Thank you so much for your kind words Definitely going to search out a different harp..
I thought the same thing about the lamp harp, change it!! 😎
I love your windows soooo much! The woodwork, the depth, the height - they are stunning.
Thank you so much!
Love the color and texture of your room. And the lamp is stunning.
Nooooooo the hardware is wrong
Thank you so much!

love the room but I would lose the blanket
Thanks I will try that…

I think you have too many big conflicting patterns in the room and the corner with the chair plus the table makes that corner too “leggy.”
😊 thank you
Patterned lamps are not simple to use. Many of patterned lamps are not quality and the patterns tend to be to loud
True…its complicated 😄
Switch out the necks daaaaa. The neck is awful
Yeah its funny too because its such a huge shade already but not big enough
