used this fly as my lead fly with mercury midge and mercury flashback black beauty behind it in 120cfs and stained water. browns and a 21" Inch rainbow smacked the poison tung 50% of the time. I was surprised as it was the first time I used it. I gave two away and both of the fishermen caught fish with big smiles. Awesome fly and it was nice to be pleasantly surprised throughout the morning. Thanks for sharing the video!

I believe he’s finally growing tired of people like me walking into the shop and yelling across the floor, “Charlie, where’s that wire you used in that video?” He’s giving us the alternatives now.

Not sure when this was created, but about 20 years ago I fished the Stillwater in Montana with a guide in a float trip. He tied on a grey with blue as a dropper to my hopper and I caught a lot of nice fish using it. I fish mostly Western North Carolina and have not used that fly here, not sure why. Thanks for the video

I have read or viewed a video in which some fisheries biologists performed a study with colored trout feed at a hatchery. As I recall, blue was by far the most eaten followed by yellow then black. I have a somewhat related question about colored beads. Why do manufacturers sell so many different colors of loose beads yet seldom do I see finished flies for sale with colored beads? Thanks for the videos!!

Are they are very popular and are sold before you ever see them?

My local fly shop had some UV gray and UV light gray ice dub.. maybe they’re making it again??

They still make “gray” but it’s not the same color as the original gray. Lavender Ice Dub is about right though.

What size are you tying here Mr. Craven? 16 or so? I may have missed it and if so apologies

great video, like always. quick question, how fast can you tie one full speed? I just tied like ten, and the best I could get was around 1:30. When Im tying a hard fly I always think, "Charlie would be done by now."

This thing in the 2488H is a heckuva steelhead fly.
