Get one, you won't regret it. If you look on AutoTrader you can find some nice ones. I bought an 06 a few months ago with only 62,800 miles on it. One piece of advice, I got the Sport Edition and the XReas suspension is shit after so many years. I hated it, and put Bilstein 5100's all around, and it's so much better.
I've got the same year and model 4Runner, but in a different color. I'd have liked to find mine in gray. It's pearl white. I just need bigger tires, lift kit, CAI and I'm set. I love my 4Runner Urban Runner SUV.
They were built to be more than just a pavement princess. these 4runners are of a dying breed. and unlike other suvs that went soft, they hold true to their roots. what you see today are hybrids or crossovers of what SUVs used to be. most now are car based. basically a glorified family van, that masquerades as an suv. I'll admit some are very nice. but they are grocery getters. 4runners are tame enough now, to be comfortable on road, but still be beast off road. and take it. aside from that. the 4runner holds the record for the lowest drivers death rate, our of ALL VEHICLES in the United States. the safest suv you can buy!
Mine is a base 2007 2wd v6. I may have a little trouble doing what this guy did. but with a small lift and some good off road tires. I could get just as far, in only 2wd. do some research. you'd be impressed. and you'll understand why they hold their value so strong too.
I bet the guy in the Jeep was getting impatient. I have both a 2016 4Runner and a 98 Grand Cherokee. The Jeep has a much better suspension articulation due to having solid axles. All four wheels in the Jeep stay on the road where one or two wheels on the Toyota simply hang in the air. The Jeep just feels more solid and goes off road easier and gets better tire grip than my 4Runner. 4Runner does better at higher speed over mild "washboard " on dirt roads dues to its lighter and independent suspension.
The only problem with the 4th gen 4 runner is the ground clearance, it's good but not great. I highly doubt that a 5th gen would be bested by a 98 Cherokee if they're both stock
More or less. But buying an SUV/Truck that's specifically designed to go off-road is most likely going to have that on its report card. Out of all the used cars, these types are the most risky one would think.
+sirjared21 I only buy used yota. Tacoma, landcruiser, 4runner. They still do what they are meant to do. Go off road. And everyone one that I've owned had over 200k miles and I sold them for what I payed for them originally. Trying getting that value out of a chevy or ford. Used or otherwise.
+sirjared21 you couldn't be more wrong. just because you buy a off road vehicle dose not mean it was use off road. almost 60% of SUVs and trucks bearly seen off road action, and most that do go off road are usually modified that you can tell right away.
the liberty has nothing on the 4runner. even though they look similar. the 4runner is literally built to take this kind of abuse. they come stock with skid plates for the engine and gas tank, 4x4 models add a transfer case skid plate. ALL trims have that. even the base. 4x4 also comes with a bunch of assist. and the 2wd like mine (an 07 sr5 (base)) comes with assist too. the only thing that limits mine from what that guy was doing is the 4x4. but with good tires I could get just as far. The liberty is basically a car based suv. yes you could off road with it. but not like a stock 4runner. you would actually have to build yours to do what his did, stock. the 4runner is the best all around suv on the market. for its size, weight and cost. their are better of course. but I'm talking about comparable models. like your liberty, the nitro, Cherokee, pathfinder (new ones are completely car based now), tahoe, blazer, etc. the 4runner is literally an FJ Cruiser with a different body. same capabilities, but you can daily it with family in tow, comfortably.
on a side note. the 4runner especially the 4th gen, holds the record for having the lowest drivers death rate, out of ALL vehicles In the United States. which makes it the safest suv overall, out of ALL of them.
Incredible! This video completely explains why I will always have a Toyota!
ikr this is why i will always buy a toyota no matter what
Bigger tires and a lift and this thing would go anywhere
i had 4runner after 170k off 50/50 offroad and daily i had no problem its suv that never fail ( my was totaled)
The people behind you must've been like, "he's gonna get stuck and block the trail". You proved them wrong! Nice!
this is why i want a 4runner shes a beast

perfect example of why to have rock sliders
that thing would be unstoppable with some bigger tires
4gen 4runners are so underrated
Might wanna put a little lift kit on it so It don't bottom out. Nice
Great video, thanks for posting.
On a highway wheels???? Did the guy get lost?
There is a metal pan under the front mines is a 2nd gen sr5
What brand of off-road tires are you using, is it stock?
Good looking 4runner and driving what year and color plz

Did you have the center diff locked? Seen quite a few times where your rear wheel wasn't even spinng?
You've got to love how multiple times the wrangler stops like half a car length after the obstacle. Because f momentum, amiright?
facts
while going through this do u put it in 4 Low or regular 4 H?
now not knowing much about these suv's was any of this abusing this vehicle or is it made to do this? did anything in this video hurt this suv?
It's a very rugged suv built on a trucks frame so this is fine

For me its similar to the 120 series prado
akeem wilkinson They're the American version of that very vehicle.
is v6 or v8?, turbo?
V8, no turbo
+Jake Darrow thank
Looks like a v12 with two turbos, to me

It’s true the jeep is the superior off-roader but the 4Runner will get to the top and pull it back once it breaks down
So I guess dont ever buy a used 4Runner you never know what sort of torture its been through. At least it could handle the strain.

+Zeeangelofdeath Well I guess asking the owner wouldn't hurt and hope they're being honest or take it in and get it looked at before you buy it...
+sirjared21 if they are designed to go off-road, then they can handle it.
That 4runner sits lower than a sedan...
Why are these people laughing so much?
+David GT_Aventus Maybe because of the ridiculously low clearance ?
I'm sure I could take my Liberty and do all that
I'm sure if you did you would get stuck. The liberty is for light off road duty, although it is nice looking it's not a true off road vehicle.

That's funny
MyCrippledWings maybe the safest but not really the most reliable, that's where the 3rd gen takes that award
