    As a coach who started a few months ago, I’m very excited for this series!

    Got to say that this and the Offensive Set-ups will be a great set of videos for new players (like myself in a way), to help them out to get a basic understanding of a good set up and then over time tweak them up a little bit to fit their play style.

    The stacked line defense at 18:50 has three players in each wide zone?

    • @desslaven7935
      @desslaven7935 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think you would just form a straight line of 7 along the line in the centre here

    • @Seier5000
      @Seier5000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree, this comment was for those new to the game, not realizing that only two players can go in each widezone

    00:20:00 The "Stacked Line" Defence there are 3 players on the side corridors, is that not illegal? Other than that good video mate :)

    • @joelalcazar8558

      Exactly what I was wondering. To my knowledge that is not a legal defensive set up.

    • @herewardfeldwick8230
      @herewardfeldwick8230 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep. I think the principle still applies - you muscle up along the line and present an unbashable front - but the illustration is definitely an illegal setup

    • @davidbowman2501
      @davidbowman2501 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was looking at the same thing. Not a legal defense set up.

    • @DrBob66

      Yeah looks like you would have to put 7 on the LOS and 2 per widezone

    Hi, not seen if had already been pointed out but in the "Stacked Defense" you have an error having 3 players per each sideline.

    Love your work on the Bonehead Podcast. You have really done so much good for BB players with the different roster set ups for each team as well as your general commentary. Really love the defensive formations here, heck as someone who's played on and off for years, even I learnt something! Hope you make a Chaos specific formation video soon!

    We are just starting a league here in the States, and we have at least 12 people completely new to blood bowl, 4 more who’ve only played one season (including myself). Thank you so much for doing this series because this is the biggest question we are receiving after they’ve played a game or two. Just wanted to let you know that we’ve shared this video with everyone, so these are very helpful!

    I'm sure i've read every article going on strategy and tactics in BB. Yet in 5 years, this is by far not only the simplest and clearest guide, but somehow the broadest and most i depth too. Can't wait for the offensive one.
    Obviously will ignore everything though and do something stupid instead

    The one you call the Chevron I've more often seen as Ziggurat. I like the variation on it where you swap the two lines (only if you have stand firm or side step on the outer corners!) to let the back line be closer to center and better protected.

    For the 3-5-3 formation, you'll see the benefit of fend on the los. You can get 2 dices all over with repositioning just 2 players if your opponent has followed up and your smart
    I'd like to see formations for when your a few players down too! I tend to fall apart once i drop to 9 players as i never know how to line up.

    With the throw team mate defense, if you are down a player because Blood Bowl, then move the corners in off the sideline one square towards the center of the pitch and line up the same way from there. It's better than leaving a hole. If you're down any more there will be a gap.

    If you have any subs that have artistic ability when your done with your offense and defense formations would you consider making it into a cheap paper back manual? Kinda like an nfl coaches play book. Add a couple good images and I'd pay for it easily.

    Even as dwarfs against goblins I don't stack the line.
    I've tried it and the ball and chain rolled well and took out the three center players by himself. If that line breaks you're conceding about 4 turns worth of stall as well if you're slow like dwarfs are. I will stack the line against running teams if I've managed to reduce them to around 6-8 players on a kick-off and I've developed my guards already.

    Not the Formation Friday Format? I feel a bit disapointed xD (and I don't know why, but I'm happy about these videos^^)
    BTW: your "stacked line" Formation is illegal. 3 guys in the outer zones. To fix that i would recommend to place the Blitzers (B) 3 Squares to the left or the right. In general, most enemies would try to dodge through the Gap of your first and secnd line, ending up in the middle of your defence. By moving the blitzers more to the side this path will be blocked by the B. So your enemy will have to blitz the lineman on the outer field and build a cage over there, but u can react with the B's.
    PS.: personal i never would recomment this.
    And i also would disagree with the "throw teammate defence", because u forget, that the big guy can move up 1 row to throw. In your position the stunty has the opportunity to land directly in the safe zone behind your line.

    Two things. I think you are the loudest voice for 7s online you should add that to the playlist of this series and second whenever you talk about throw teammates I remember you throwing a chaos halfling in a 7s game and getting all the luck of the chaos powers in the dice rolls moving perfectly through the defense

  • @JackRabbit002
    @JackRabbit002 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh this is awsome man Just what I was looking for as its the positioning that had me concerned the most! Doesn't help that 2 out of the 3 teams I've started with have mixed movement mind 🙄

  • @arthurrose8588
    @arthurrose8588 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Snotlings for the win. With the stilty runner you've got the potential of 9 movement (thank you sprint!), or the Fun-hoppa and its pogo gives you the ability to cut out two of the three dodges they'd have to make.
    Makes me all warm and tingly inside just thinking about it 😁

    This is great! Thanks Ben! My suggestion vs Throw-Teammate is to spread TZs more to force more dodge dice. Since stunties ignore TZs it makes your suggestion somewhat... resource intensive?
    -X--X--X--T--T-
    ---------------------
    ---------------------
    -X--X--X--------
    The T are Tackle players who remove the dodge skill. Does this format make sense?
    If you don't have tackle, then I'd centre the back 3 Xs, which lessens the TZs for dodges down the flanks at the assumption that your opponent won't TTM down the flanks.
    If you have plans for a Part 2, I'd like to chip in as I have a Playbook of sorts haha!!
