- Ralf Schumacher, Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard remember the famous race at Spa in 1998. It was a race filled with incidents, with Michael Schumacher crashing out in a collision with DC's McLaren.
That opened the door for Jordan to win their first ever Grand Prix and take the top two spots on the podium. However, in a move that infuriated Ralf at the time, Eddie instructed the German driver to stay behind teammate Damon Hill rather than try and win the race himself.

It's a shame Michael Schumacher wouldn't be able to be featured on this channel. It would have been nice to hear all his stories and get his perspective of the Spa '98 incident today.
I was never a fan of his, but I agree. Just like it would be amazing to hear Senna's perspective on his career, with the benefit of hindsight/mellowing.
I was there at Spa in 1998. Had a great spot at La Source to see the pits and Eu Rouge. Fantastic race, everything happening all at once. - if you watched it on TV.
We had no access to a big screen TV where we sat - they were mostly broken. The big crash at the beginning took place in a shroud of spray, I saw nothing, all the rest of the excitement, and there was quite a bit of it, I saw on TV repeats during the week.
SPA98 is a legend of a race. Jean Alesi finished third for Sauber !
This podcast is so brilliant. It’s absolutely on the money is every respect. DC and EJ have such great chemistry and their personalities compliment each other so well, in this setting especially. Also, both are very smart and have been there done it. This is what podcasts are all about. Class entertainment. Thank you.
Ralf: " I don't want to mention any names ..."
Eddie: "Ian Phillips"
What a cracking conversation between these three, I do believe the drivers look back with rose tinted glasses though ,
Great chemistry between Ralf & Eddie
Sound bloke Ralf. Always has been
DC just sitting there loving every minute between eddit an ralf lmaooo
That was a great race. Had everything. All the soap opera drama without liberty media or race directors trying to concoct it. Was also just before all the teams became highly corporatised sterile companies with no emotion. The perfect balance of more professionalism with a generation of drivers that still had the old school. Edge. I know Jordan was the team owner, but something tells me that he wouldn’t always be a jolly boss or businessman to deal with. So I can completely believe what Ralph said happened. The crash between DC and Michael was just unfortunate. But considering what was at stake and who DC‘s teammate was, I can understand why Michael blew up. The thing with Ralph and Jordan was just the icing on the cake when he was already blowing a lid.
I recall that race well. DC is lucky the teams intervened as Michael was in Nuclear mode.
💥😂
Michael was lucky… imagine the damage to his hand if he’d hit that jaw
Are you nuts? Schumacher was a complete wimp
David would have kicked the living shit out of Schumacher.
Oh here we go with the Internet smart ases 😂
How can you tell if Eddie Jordan is lying? You can see his lips moving.
I would trust him as far as I could throw him.
I would have trusted EJ far more than say Flavio Briatore or Tom Walkenshaw.
Luckily DC didn't take his helmet off.
I've raced for years and I learned that early on too. Keep your helmet on if you expect fisticuffs.
😂😂 EJ..
Is this the one where DC brake checked Michael and destroyed his car. 😆
DC made the real Michael come out beast mode.
Don’t think he brake checked him, it was a misunderstanding Dc slowed to let MS overtake him.
@@amraverageproduction5379 dc slowed down on racing/rain line and michael saw him too late in the spray
@@philgaming_87 Michael should have finished the race with three tyres. He was one lap in front of everybody.
@@turrican4d599 are you being serious
It's mad That we have to go to the 90s for proper drama
Couldnt like jordan if you rared him .. just creepy the way hes watching Ralf..
Michael ruining his own race was the best part imho, oh in loved to see him loose at this point. Probably the most memorable race i have seen.
DC ruined it for him as he's admitted since.
In was there. Was my first race. You really saw everyone looking at each other. He can't be that stupid? You could see everyone thinking it
@GaryT-ho5pb ROFL... like you never even saw it. Sure, i'm convinced you and the 4 other people that think it was DC that intended this to happen, believe it.... but that does not make it true now does it ? Ii said it before and i'll say it again... driver error, DNF for MSC, case closed. ..... it was fun to watch him fume tho.
@@p3falien233 Never saw it? I was in the damn stand next to it has it happened. lol
You clearly didn’t watch the race, because he didn’t ruin his own race, and DC didn’t ruin his race. They could barely see each other, and by the time DC slowed down and Michael saw him through the spray, there was nowhere to go.
