  • Joseph Lemm was killed in a suicide bombing attack near Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan last week. He is survived by his wife and two kids, including 4-year-old son Ryan. Hundreds of uniformed police and U.S. military service officers lined the streets of Manhattan for the funeral for NYPD police detective and soldier Joseph Lemm at St Patrick's Cathedral, which was attended by NYPD Commission William Bratton and Mayor Bill de Blasio, among others.

Gandalf, you are probably correct. John John wouldn't have remembered saluting his father's casket either since that day was his 3rd birthday. This hurts me. My grandchildren lost their daddy at the age of 33. (Heart attack brought on by diabetes.) They're 7 and 3. They ARE aware he's gone...he adored them and was a big part of their lives. My 3 y/o granddaughter told me "Daddy made the monsters go away." My father was killed in Vietnam in 1969. I was 7. I remember when the Chaplain and military men came to our apartment. I had no idea what was going on. But the pain on my moms face I’ll never forget. She didn’t cry once, not in front of her 4 kids. She cried her heart out behind closed doors though. She still lives with that pain.

This is how my dad found out his dad had died in WW2 - Germans bombed an ammunitions factory my grandad was delivering to.
My dad a 10yr old ( from Liverpool ) came from
A big family and his mum was very hard and tough . My dad is walking down the road and a kid shouts out ‘ Billy Fagan your dad is dead ‘ .. ‘no he’s not ‘ says my dad . He runs home and says ‘ Ma is my dad dead ?’ …. ‘Yeah son he is ‘ she answers .
That’s it . No hug or sympathy just had to get on with things . Tough times … rest in peace dad hope you found yours too ❤️

I wish I hadn't remembered that part of my life...as it's even more painful now that I'm 70 years old, every time I think about it. Soon I will see the mother I didn't have and I will rejoice in heaven.

It’s amazing that we as Americans show such a great support for fallen heroes, they have passed on but will be remembered through there ideals, patriotism, and family/friends. Don’t take life for granted people your capable of anything another man did and they are also. Everyone may not come from equal beginnings but we do all have the same blood, heart, and souls.. I encourage everyone out of respect for this man and his legacy , as well as the millions of others who have bravely let there soul fight for humanity to treat everyone equal, race religion, hell even sports beliefs we all human guys and if you are doing something or believing in something that is not true freedom get tf off my planet your outdated.. you know if this means you and your the biggest problem we have if you can’t recognize it yet..everybody should simply get along, control those emotions negative and positive they are always jus a moment of the bigger picture so don’t do something stupid well your caught up in it. Spread love not hate to everyone your all the same @republicans atm but not forever your not evil I know that ❤️

    AMERICAN SOLDIER SONG !!
It’s not a priest that gives us our freedom of religion
And it’s not a reporter that gives us our freedom of voice.
It’s not any judge, lawyer, politician, preacher or teacher
But the blood of a soldier that has sacrificed by choice.
Our soldiers line up to be remembered
As the best of the best at their job.
They wish to be needed and depended on
To save all we love from the mob.
They risk their life and limb for liberty
Standing firm against evil unwilling to break.
To be part of something greater than themselves
They are willing to forgo whatever it will take.
