I believe that is why he was hired...MR knew TW would be gone very soon and wanted someone in house who knew the team and it would be a plug & play situation. I don't think he would've taken the job if he wasn't 'promised' the DC position if TW left.

Tony White leaving Nebraska for the same position at FSU implies White thinks FSU is a better fit for him but that does not mean every coach thinks that. Although, it is alarming that White thinks FSU (at rock bottom and starting over) is a better place for him than year three at Nebraska with Matt Rhule & Company. Regardless, best of luck to Tony White if he moves on and thank you for doing a great job at NU!

It's time for the 3-3-5 experiment to go away. Charlie McBride went from the 5-3 defensive front to the 4-4 and it worked. The biggest reason it did was recruiting speed and tenacity with fundamentally sound tackling and coverage. Recruiting the right players and coaching them up was fundamental to their success in the nineties. The key word here is coaching. GBR!

My thoughts on the Huskers vs Hawkeyes pregame nontroversy... No, Matt Rhule did nothing wrong by walking around the field. No, there's nothing disrespectful about having a pregame prayer at mid-field on the logo. Yes, if Iowa put security out there to stop the prayer from being on their logo, that is petty. Yes, it was poor sportsmanship to not shake hands at the coin toss. If that was a response to the pregame nonsense from the Hawkeyes, I believe a better way to get even would have been to live well, shake hands, and win the game. The more I see about this handshake thing and Rhule taking a walk around the field before the game, the more it sounds like a whole lot of projection... Like the guy that's a jerk trying to jump all over anything anyone else does to say "See! They're a jerk too! So I'm not really that big a jerk after all!"

Hey Adam, Iowa fan and general big 10 fan here. I hope Tony stays at Nebraska because that defense was really starting to become a familiar identity and honestly they were becoming a force. I’d like to see stability for Nebraska I really would brother. They deserve it. I hope Dana stays and gets to implement his system with his guys. I hope Tony stays and continues to build on his foundation.
Ok so the hand shake thing I already commented on earlier, I wish everyone would have shaked hands but I don’t know the full story. Concerning the Matt Rhule walk through during Iowa’s warmups…I saw the video….lol I’m with you Adam I have zero clue what he did that was so wrong. I even saw him point and smile at someone during it so he seemed to be jovial and in good spirits. I don’t know what the deal is maybe there’s more to it but it looked innocent. Anyways, I’m sad to see the Iowa/Nebraska game not being played on Black Friday next year what’s up with that? But hey best of wishes in Nebraska’s bowl game I’ll be rooting for them, I always root big 10 in bowl games and playoffs. God bless!

Nebraska fans were asked to accept Tony White and the 3-3-5. We weren't completely sold on it, but because Tony explained some of his ideas and is a good person, we decided to give it a chance. To believe in Tony and go with it. Illinois gashes the defense. We heard what Tony said, and we said "ok." USC takes our defense and laughs as they run through the holes in our defense. We heard what Tony had to say. So we looked deep down and continued to have faith. The defensive secondary forgot how to tackle during the Indiana and Iowa games. Here we are saying, "Tony is still a good coach. Look at our numbers against poor teams."
Leaving is how our faith is repaid? Perhaps the illusion is finally over.

LET'S CALL IT LIKE IT IS -- White and Knighton leaving here presents a great opportunity for both them and Nebraska. Good luck to those two men and the players going early into the portal.
SOME OF THE PLAYERS leaving early are key components of our defense on a 6 win team. Would they show up on Alabama's, Oregon's or the Texas roster-- ?-- they'd get lost in the shuffle.
WHITE"S DEFENSE HERE couldn't get off the field in key moments -- lost 13 of 24 games in 2 years. To the fans who think we can do no better than White and the results we've watched in 2 years aren't watching the same games I saw.
I credit Rhule with making changes and moving forward until we get the results we need-- at least he's not sitting on his hands and looking at the sky like the last 2 guys.

I enjoyed the coverage as a husker fan. I’m not crazy about losing our defensive coordinator. They have been top 25 recruiting off the radar the last couple years so finishing in the top 20 in defense the last two years I would call that mediocrity especially when you have all juniors and seniors this year. He inherited it a lot And was there for two years. It’s probably a win-win for both parties cause we expect better. We want a top 10 defense not mediocrity so as far as I’m concerned, good riddance.

That he might leave for FSU is not a really surprise, was a candidate for head coaching jobs last year and in today’s portal world anything is possible including coaches. I hate to see him go but as fans we need to get used to coaching and player carousel’s, the days of coaching staff longevity and loyalty is gone. All teams have issues, in today’s college football this will now be the norm, not the exception. I would not be a bit surprised if he goes to FSU, he will be paid close to $2M, which isn’t a bad lateral move!! FSU was what, 12-1 or something like that in 23, almost a playoff participant and 1-11 this year, so the internal problems so they definitely have internal issues, new DC, Gus Malzon, fired from UCF, their new OC. Plus, all the athletes in FL, recruiting will be much easier than it is for him at NE and in a much easier conference, ACC. TW wants a head coach role and it's easier to play defense in the ACC. Pretty easy.

The Husker defense had some serious flaws that good opponents were able to exploit extensively, so I'm not really all that hurt to see Tony White go. I would like to keep the D-line coach, but he'll probably leave with White. Hopefully, we can find better replacements that will build defenses geared for our opponents in the Big 10 while also being adaptable enough to handle non-conference opponents.

Matt Rhule walking around the field it appeared no one had an issue with it. Everyone now days is trying to stir the pot to create controversy, No Big Deal! The hand shake was a message saying that was BS for messing with our prayer moment. That's it get over yourself. Now coaches, I hope we can keep a great coach, but maybe we can get a another great coach who is also a great recruiter. We need to look at the glass as half full not half empty. As far as kids going in the portal we need to replace them with better players with more production. We just got to do better then everyone else. Work harder and do better to get back to the National spot light. GBR!!!
