During the final lion vs luther fight, the lion sees a vision in the warp of the emperor, and is told the only way to save the imperium is to eventually kill the emerpor on the throne. But this must be kept secret. The lion is in agony at having his duty be to harm the emperor, and a part of his soul breaks off in the warp, so this fact and task he must complete is a secret even to the Lion. The soul fragment is formed it into a new body in thw warp Cypher. The skeleton king in the nrw lion books could well be the emperor trying to remind him of the task he was set and the help he will need to complete it. This could be why the lion shows age and character change hes lost a part of himself . Cyphers ability to disapear sounds a lot like the lions forest walking? And the fact he has the sword? Thats where id go with this story anyway. Very Dark Angels to have a secret so secret the lion keeps it even from himself.

My theory: before Zahariel dies(died?) he projects his psychic essence into Corswain. Corswain and Zahariel are two souls in one body. That causes him to have two destinies.
I think Cyphers identity is irrelevant. The role and identity becomes you. Also I think Cypher is loyal and has always been acting for the betterment of mankind, even if he has to break a few rules. He knows the Dark Angels hierarchy won't acknowledge his methods but sees no other way.

We don’t know what happened to corswayn after the sundering of Caliban. I’m guessing he killed cypher and the watchers explained that he has to take his place or else all will fail.

Watchers could not tell him constantly what he have to do and how to achieve it. If they told him to act this way, he would somehow had to magically learn all of those things on his own. He also would have to learn to be incredibly stealthy. He would have to learn how to escape from being imprison, even in places like Golden Palace, while being guarded by Custodes. I don't see how he could manage all of those things, while he was always acting "in light", fighting with his sword and gun, leading and commanding troops. You'd have to be incredibly skillful to escape from Custodes' prison and to find your way inside the Golden Palace.
My head canon is that Cypher is Alpharius/Omegon, which ever lives. Alpha Legion were supposed to be sort of a contingency plan for Imperium as far as I know and remember, besides their ways are pretty much as unknown as Emperor's. It makes enough sense to me and until proven otherwise (when Cypher's identity is revealed) or something extremely contradictory, like Alpharius/Omegon rising from somewhere else that I'm going this route with his identity in my head.
I could see that, that we'll never know as readers, but it'll be revealed to certain characters. I could see it go down something like this. His skill at arms was expert, he parried every strike using his pistols, never once attempting to draw My sword. "What is you seek my son? Forgiveness? Redemption absolute?" It was as I said these words I noticed an opening, and took it. As his body spun to the floor, his pistols scattering, his hood finally fell, forever obscuring his face from me, but still never hindering his combat efficiency. I point the tip of my blade and speak. "Rise, look me in the eyes, or I'll grant you your end!" He looks up, those eyes so familiar, his face etched into my minds from countless interactions. "You?!" "Aye, me! Who else could it have been? You know what needs to be done, I'm just ashamed I'm the one to do it." He rose his hood again and with that collected his weapons and left... I could imagine Cypher being a shard of Malcador, who else would know the Emperor's plans so well? But that's just wishful thinking.
More and more I feel cypher is Omegan he fought alongside the first legion since its creation so he would have a history with them and since the Alpharius novel it rings true
It's 100% Zahariel, he was literally Cypher in 30k, a fallen angel and he was a main protagonist of the series, nothing makes more sense than that. Not to mention that he saved the emperor life ones so, he had that connection.
Zahariel is key, during the Heresy some warpcraft happens and vision is seen. Then the Big E put in motion another convoluted backup plan that needs Cypher, the Lion and Luther. A mission of a secret order within Dark Angels was altered with aim to deny Vash'thor godhood at the last minute.

He would have recognized any one of those characters when Cypher rescued him after being recently revived. Instead, he only recognized the big sword Cypher was carrying but chose not to question it at the time.
He doesn't know Zahariel and he didn't know both heads of the hydra (the bigger heads, you know). Alpharius is dead and he was the head of the XX Legion so, I would say that no primarch knows Omegon. But I would say that it shouldn't be Corswain. Cordwain should be alive pursuing something alone, even doing what the very Lion is doing now. Maybe he didn't remain in the legion because he didn't want to follow the same path and wanted redemption for his brothers. An explanation to the betrayal.

You say how he was just above reproach in the eyes of the Emperor. It seems to me that Russ was also very much that way considering how he and his legion were used - essentially to police the other legions (my words). Can you explain the difference in how Russ and the Lion were viewed and treated by the Emperor? How did they both earn that trust compared? How different were their relationships with the Emperor? Also, (long sorry) it seems to me that Horus knew the First would never turn and so he essentially kept them on the fringes of the galaxy during the heresy. Why wasn’t the same done with the SW? Shouldn’t they have done what the white scars were doing on the fringes in Chondax, etc? How did these two legions compare / contrast in their roles for the Emperor and where did Sanguinius fit into this too. Thanks.

I always interpreted the whole "the Emperor knows the Lion wouldn't follow Horus" situation more as he knows his ego would never let him submit to the authority of another than his loyalty is absolute. The Lion is grade A dick who does whatever he wants and will murder or banish anyone who gets in his way.

As for why he carries the Lion Sword is because it's supposed to be his, since he is essentially the "first" Primarch found, so by "birthright" or positioning it should have been his. This is just a theory with a small amount of certainty, but the last Cypher is using the ruinous powers while this doesn't. This Cypher also got to throneroom, while Alpharius also got to the throneroom, this is why the Blood Games were created. Also him being insane could be because after Rogal killing Alpharius, it could be that his soul is now merged with his other body, remember Alpharius/Omegon got one soul in two bodies, and have two separate identities, him being somewhat insane is plausible.
On the Star Child storyline, I've seen a lot of things about people thinking that Beta Becwin being the host of the Star Child entity but what if she isn't? What if the whole star child is a bit more literal and she is to be the mother of the star child and the reason it needs to be a powerful blank is so that she can contain the Star Child whilst she is pregnant. Since it is far more powerful then when it was born the first time at the Dawn of Humanity.
I think fans would have a much better time if they think of Cypher as anything but a binary construct. I.e. good or bad, Imperium or chaos... Look at the Emperor... It's not like he's kept his hands clean in keeping humanity safe... I think Cypher is also an example of the Emperor's pragmatism.
I don't think the emperor wants to die just yet if he dies he will become a god in the warp but he will lose something important when he burned the garden he said will is the only thing that matters and living beings have will beings of the warp are emotions and ideas

Be careful what you ask for... A TV series now might be there were no men in the Imperium... But I am with you, if they could put their BS aside, then you could get a big franchise going... Start with the Eisenhorn show on the Inquisition, then going to a different inquisitorial style in another show and further start growing the world like under hive gang based show... And so on, maybe having the scarcity of Space Marines hinted at throughout with sightings and rumors of battle they appear in. Build up the mystique, to introduce them slowly... Maybe allow them to keep cost low with less CG intensive shows, like the afore mentioned Inquisitor shows, criminal underhive, and even throw in some Guardsmen stuff... Not sure the Ecclesiarchy is somewhat could work on TV without getting panned as zealotry... Who said it has to stop with Imperium, could expand to other factions, would just get more difficult.

Can we get a series on warhammer tv plz. Games Workshop is so out of touch with modernism. We do not want to pay $60 a year just for the trash they put out. It aint even monthly either. They so lame!!!
Be careful what you ask for... A TV series now might be there were no men in the Imperium...
But I am with you, if they could put their BS aside, then you could get a big franchise going... Start with the Eisenhorn show on the Inquisition, then going to a different inquisitorial style in another show and further start growing the world like under hive gang based show... And so on, maybe having the scarcity of Space Marines hinted at throughout with sightings and rumors of battle they appear in. Build up the mystique, to introduce them slowly... Maybe allow them to keep cost low with less CG intensive shows, like the afore mentioned Inquisitor shows, criminal underhive, and even throw in some Guardsmen stuff... Not sure the Ecclesiarchy is somewhat could work on TV without getting panned as zealotry... Who said it has to stop with Imperium, could expand to other factions, would just get more difficult.
The only thing I get is "yeah no sorry, we're not advancing 40k's narrative in any meaningful way yet. And it's starting to bore me... It's time for things to start moving for emperor's sake. Litteral and figurative
