      I put this in the main comment section. I was wondering if you could go there and reply: He's full of 💩! This is why you don't take advice from white belts OR even though he's a white belt, this is actually good advice.
      "BIKES WITH NO GEAR POSITION INDICATOR: Use this method to verify if you went down 1 too many. It will prevent chirping and traction loss.
      (Yes I'm a white belt and NORMALLY you DO NOT take advice from a white belt, but this is an exception to the rule. Due to the fact that my 2007 V-Star 1300 doesn't have a tach or GPI couple with the fact that I AM a whte belt I get lost in my gears sometimes. It's not like a 4 or 18-wheeler where I can just reach over to feel what gear I'm in.
      Being that I AM a white belt, I use this hack often to get a "peek":at what gear I'll be in when I release the clutch lever.
      You might say I'm an expert at being inexperienced, lol.)"

    Makes sense to avoid trying to rev match while braking on the track. And as noted with quick shifters, the bike will do it for you. But on the street, when slowing for a corner at part throttle (quick shifter works smoothest with throttle closed), I prefer rev-matching before braking for a smooth downshift that avoids shocking the drive train. But to each his own.

      Yep, I use it at med-slower speeds, often with very little - or even no - brake. Just makes for a smooth down-change.

      ​@Andrew Cran when I engine brake on a dirtbike.. it's much less linear than my vstrom. Every pop from the carburetor can be felt on decel.

    It saves your clutchplates and makes for a smoother deceleration. Prevents rear wheel locking up (most in single an two cilinder bikes). The auto blipper rev matches for you, so to say that its useless is wrong. And yeah its fun, something you can do on the open road, I understand why not doing it on track makes sense with the brake pulsing. And a pro rider doesnt care for wearing out clutchplates anyway

    Makes total sense!
    I enjoy rev matching when I'm just casually slowing down and engine braking but once it's actually time to really slow down then I don't worry about rev matching anymore and I do exactly what you say in this video.
    Rev matching is just for fun! Engine braking is only effective up to a point and like you say over and over again in your other videos it isn't predictable. The brakes are the only sure thing way to stop the bike or slow it down in a predictable manner. All the other stuff is just for fun! Lol

    I don't get to ride and practice as much as I'd like being a truck driver and a dad my spare time is limited.

      Often i make my 🛵 speed up when im rev matching to downshit for a corner. (Opposite effect)
      Like you said it seems to be better for less serious moments of speed refuction.

    My ‘trick’ is only to rev match my FIRST DOWNSHIFT… then down shift through the appropriate speeds while progressively braking

    This was my biggest concern when learning how to Rev match. It is a lot to think about and keeping a consistent brake pressure and not pulsating the front brake but the better you get at it you will find that there is a way to do it without upsetting the front suspension, it's a technique just like Rev matching in a car. I have small hands and shorter fingers than most people so it is especially difficult for me so trust me if I can do it anyone can learn it. I don't agree with just giving up on it I think Rev matching is a good technique especially if you are riding fast but on the street or in most riding scenarios it is not always necessary to Rev match. And it is not necessary on the track especially coming in to a turn at a high speed lets say the straight and you want to go from 6th to 1st gear that's a lot of Rev matching all while on 100% braking.

    Hey Greg!
    I do a combination. When I'm slowing in a straight street. I rev match, but never touch the front brakes. Only the back.
    If I'm cornering, I never ever rev match unless it's before the turn, then I just shift down, start to apply brakes and turn. That's okay?

    I figured this out on accident when learning how to revmatch. I hit that front brake, HARD! Total accident! Now, when I'm coming to a stop, I'll rev match kinda late to slow the bike down a bit. As the rpms get low due to the slower speed, I do normal down shifts while on the brakes. From 3rd to 1st are all normal down shifts, if I'm coming to a complete stop.

    On the older Harleys, they had straight cut gears. Rev matching avoids the dreaded clunk on a downshift, less wear on the gears. More time on avoiding a transmission rebuild. But then again, not doing on a track, or while braking, just a "normal" downshift, for climbing a grade usually, or using engine braking when that's all that's needed. Your point is very valid though. Jayman...

    I only rev match because i find ir satisfying. Absolutely zero purpose other than that. I just love the sound and the satisfaction that I was avle to perform it well.

    So add wear to your clutch by riding it to slow down the wheel speed... 🤔 Riders have been rev matching for decades before slipper clutches and electronic aids came in... never heard an older rider say to ride the clutch to lower the wheel speed to match the engine...

    This technique is called clutch slipping. You guys can find more info on the channel Life at Lean 😁
    One personal point I want to add: the other downside of the blipping technique is it can make you accidentally give throttle and braking at the same time and cause you to crash(losing the frontend) 😅
    So, blipping is for fun nowadays(especially on the street). For track/racing, use clutch slipping technique or upgrade your bike with an auto-blipper and focus on other things like braking, turning point…

      he's not covering it, he's trail braking into the corner. so yes, if you're trail braking and trying to rev match, you'll upset the bike by not being as smooth.

    Interesting that guys at the top level still think about this, as I learned rev matching while front braking I always thought this was , almost dangerous but I figured that in order to be good at motorcycling you had to be very dexterous with your fingers and be able to have a very consistent front brake pressure while downshifting and rev matching, its interesting to hear that you cant really ever achieve truly consistent brake pressure and that it ispractically dangerous at the top level because their front suspension matters so much more. What did racers do before the technology? I assume they rev matched while front braking, I doubt they did what youre suggesting to do?

    It’s funny, I always blipped while braking until I got a 23’ Panigale V4S which comes with fork springs that are way to soft. That’s when I noticed the pulsing; now this bike has auto blip but I didn’t want to come dependent on it. So now I am going to apply the slipper technique to my 14’ ZX10R and really see what’s up. The latter bike doesn’t seem to pulse much while braking and blipping simultaneously but we shall see the difference on the next ride.

    I use it mostly on the highway for smooth downshifts when I want to accelerate, when I brake for a corner I don't use it.

    What if you’re going down like 2 or 3 gears while you’re braking? Still no rev match? If I’m braking hard on my SV and I don’t rev match as I downshift and brake, the rear wheel locks up on me if I’m too aggressive.

    Good stuff. 👍🏾 Some of us definitely have mixed feelings and different perceptions about the comments you made on aftermarket exhausts though. You only have to watch a couple of videos from Moore Mafia to see real world examples of the impact they can have on bike weight reduction and increased power when combined with proper tuning.
    Now, the question of whether any of us REALLY need increased power or weight reduction is a completely different and a fair question to raise. Proper riding technique and skills are definitely superior to and more valuable than bike upgrades.

    I do it on the street when I slow down and need more acceleration but it definitely felt awkward on track where I had to slow fast and go 2 or three gears

    Can you PLEASE settle a debate? Based on my knowledge of manual transmissions AND with my trial and error experiences as a new rider, I left a piece of advice in the main comment section.
    Another rider is saying I'm wrong. Maybe I am, but I really don't think so. You're the Red Belt, can you weigh in on this debate?
    I'm man enough to use the phrase "I stand corrected" IF I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

    Older Superbike with 4cyl 12k+ rpm superbike with no slipper clutch and you do not rev match in the higher revs. Say a prayer. I do not need to revmatch on my 2020 triumph street triple 765 RS with lower rev and slip clutch. My 2006 cbr600rr with no slip clutch i have to do it or my rear tyre is braking.

    I don't rev match I just come down through the gears from speed releasing the clutch slowly, the bike lets you know if she is happy or not and if not man a quick adjustment and try again.

    I ended up here bc of the shit springs in my Panigale and just tested the slipper method on my 14’ ZX10R, after 35 years I will never brake blip again. Such a simple concept and my stubbornness never allowed me to listen until I had shit springs.

    Hi Greg. I’m a new beginner rider. Just got my endorsement through the msf basic riding course. I got the kawasaki ninja 650 as my first bike. The manual has a table for what speed I should be in to properly downshift and prevent rear wheel skid. Says i should downshift from 6th to 5th at 19mph. Is this ideal? What if Im going 45 on 6th gear and then have to slow down in a short distance to go 1st gear? What’s the proper way of downshifting? Thank you for any tips you can give
    What I’m doing right now is engine breaking, apply breaks to slow down, then start downshifting all the way to 1st

    My bike doesn't have abs or a slipper clutch. If I don't rev match and let go of the clutch too fast there's a good chance my rear wheel locks up. Also by not rev matching you are upsetting the balance of the bike more so than a slight front brake pulse. I don't think this is good advise.

    What about cars? When heel and toe braking and rev matching...the brake will pulsate too...coz the right foot is trying to brake and blip throttle too...

    Hi MotoJitsu, when doing figure 8s , 5 ft. cone weaves and weaves on every parking space my handle bars have to be muscled around and sometime they lock and I have to give my Heritage gas to help me get it straight. Could you possible address how you make it look so easy to move the handle bars from locked left to locked right position?

    I guess that when trailbraking or when it’s slippery there’s no benefit at all to upset the suspension, but when cruising at moderate speed with heavy clutches it may help reduce the strain on the left fingers and the wear on the clutch, plus it sounds good and it’s funny :)

    I can never get the right mix between clutch blip and clutch release, i dont understand if im suppose to dump the clutch to rev match or let it out slowly

      I tend to let it out slowly but quickly if that makes sense. It comes down to feel. Once you do it right a couple of times you will start to develop muscle memory of the correct way to rev match.

      Slow, you only blip the throttle fast, to get it to the proper revs, from that point, everything is the same

      You can let out the clutch fairly quick if you rev match. Letting out the clutch slowly is good if you don’t blip the throttle to match engine speed.
