  • So after 5 nights in Chiang Mai Thailand, I missed my original flight to Bangkok on a Thursday and ended up staying in Chiang Mai for an extra night where I booked a new flight to make my way down to Bangkok on the following day, where I find myself in this video. So today I will be flying Thai Smile A320 from Bangkok to Krabi. This is my first time flying with Thai Smile and I am looking forward to my flight with the airline, before they completely merge into Thai Airways International. In the video we begin the day in Sukhumvit 11 in Bangkok, make our way to Suvarnabhumi Airport and board our Thai Smile flight to Krabi. The video includes, takeoff, inflight video and landing at Krabi International Airport. I hope you enjoy this trip report as we travel down to the south of Thailand and end the day in Ao Nang.

    It'll be great once they rebrand THAI smile back to THAI! Great review as always, Luke! Enjoy the trip.

    Great video, Luke. I appreciate how you are giving us a glimpse into a number of different SE Asian airlines. It looks like your flight was fine for what you paid for it. However, I do hate seeing stains on the seat like that because you never know what it’s from.

      Thanks Michael! It’s was a great trip being able to try a few different SE Asian carriers… especially a few that were knew to me. Yeah… it was a bit of a mess but I have a feeling the turnaround is crazy with these planes, so who knows when they finally get to clean them. Once again, cheers for the support!

    Good report. Although not hopped on Thai Smile in the last 12 months, I am now a train buff when in Thailand or driving our old Toyota Thai Smile was always pretty good for the price nice ground staff and cabin crews except the Ground staff in Laos real worry (be warned) your Comment about a bit ordinary in the cleanliness area very valid and in about 7 out 10 times my experience also. Possibly because it required a quick turnaround. 6.2 found seats a bit tight on the knees For the price imo not a bad bang for the buck. Also being safety aware, apart from 4 or 5 incidents no hull losses or deaths .The poor little A320 have worked hard and often . It will be interesting to observe how the two company cultures merge down the track .Another ripper Luke thanks for the efforts

      Hey Phil! I was pretty keen to try a train from Chiang Mai back down to Bangkok but ended up going the faster option, maybe next time when I am over there. As for the comfort level, at the beginning I said it was comfortable but it did feel slightly cramped towards the end of the flight, thankfully only an hour so no complaints. By the time I made it into Ao nang that plane was already on descent back into Bangkok. Cheers for the comment and support Phil! 👍

    Ah the on again off again offshoot of TG. Latest development is Smile will be absorbed into TG, which kinda defeats the purpose of why Smile was created in the first place. Oh well, smooth and efficient isnt exactly the forte of Suvarnabhumi. TG was also one of the hardest hit legacy carriers during COVID, and they're still struggling to recover today. Ill be glad to see TG going back to doing domestic flights, but i struggle to understand how they're going to climb out of their financial shit hole. Anyway, great video!

      Yes! I hope they do ok… I’ll be keen to fly Thai Airways domestically once the merger is complete next year. Cheers for the support Ryan!

    Any reason why you said typical boarding process in Asian countries which is not smooth/efficient? How different it is than in the Europe?

    • @LukeCrisp
      @LukeCrisp  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry, without watching the video back… thought I made it clear by mentioning a free for all. I have not travelled within Europe so I cannot make a comparison there, however in terms of an Australian boarding process, we line up and are called in sections… whereas generally boarding is not called in sections in Asia… hence people at the front of the plane get on (after business of course) but it holds up the entire boarding process for those at the back… people push in front etc… people on phones… reclining seats before takeoff.
      Sorry for the long winded comment, I can’t remember what I mentioned in the video.

      @@LukeCrisp actually, boarding is by section (or in Malaysia which is an Asian country, next to Thailand, it is called "zone"). Same in other Asian countries like Indonesia

      @@MrAzannee In terms of boarding - I am aware of “sections” however these are not followed / called in the most efficient order. (at least in my experience). I would always get on the plane and people in the forward area of the cabin were taking forever putting in overhead baggage. I never saw rear cabin entry, hence it holds up the process. In this case, you would think business first… rear cabin next… then forward cabin.
