Cool! ^_^ Efficiency is definitely key when you have to do something repetitive. I find I'm using layer masks more often now. Even to the point of having multiple lighting or shading layers in a folder with a layer mask to contain certain drawing areas. I'm finding actions to be really helpful in creating multiple layers set to their own type of layer that I usually use quickly. Not sure if Photoshop has it, but in Clip Studio I thought being able to use clipping mask on folders filled with layers to stay on your flat color layer was really awesome. That way you don't have to worry about action, just create new layer in folder that is using clipping or layer mask and you are set to paint within that area. Then if you want to further increase precision is to set flat color layer as reference layer and using magic selection tool with reference layer option to quickly select things while being contained with the clipping and/or layer mask areas while staying on same paint layer. Laziness for the win! ^_^

Thanks Kurt, good pointers. Did you see the latest version of Clip Studio and the ability to apply colors to line art much quicker? Similar in a way to how Krita does their flats. Version 1.8.4 allows you to just swipe color in general areas within the line art, then allow it's AI capabilities to fill in colors, and blend colors as well. Really cool. I have yet to try it, but am looking forward to it. Photoshop still has it's own form of magic. Good video.

Hey Kurt what's the difference between flow and opacity on the brush regarding color? Both seems to just go transparent but I notice you prefer to adjust flow.

Though there's still a question I have and I thought you'd answer it in this video but you didn't, how do you do to trace quick straight line with the regular lasso tool like you seem to do at 1:24 on this girl's shoulder ? It'd be a great help if you could answer that, thanks ! :D
@@colorwithkurt Oh I'm so stupid ok thanks ! I knew it worked on the polygonal to get to freehand mode but I never succeeded doing the opposite, it now works :)

Do you save in PSD or Tiff with LZW compression? I imagine covers can get pretty big in file size.
hi , this method is useful when I have at least one color layer with flat color ? because If I press a combination to call the action , it is cool because copy and lock the trasparency , but depends in the first instance to have a clean lines righ? If I have not a good clean lines, my magig wand fails... thx by the way, your tuts are great.

are these actions the same in Clip Studio?
When I hit command J my drawing doesn’t transfer it just hits me with a blank layer. I know it may seem like basic shit but I’m new to photoshop lol
What's the purpose of that first action script? Couldn't you just select and paint? Why make it a new layer? Is it just a safety measure so you don't mess up your flats?
Locking the transparency on that new layer means now having to worry about staying in the lines. You can make selections outside of it but can't paint outside.
Gonna pick up my ipad with the pencil tonight. Palm rejection here i come
