    Great review. As for reliability, my daughter is very harsh to her A7 for three years now, and that camera never ever let her down for any assignments. She is carrying three batteries along for a shoot. So, my comment is that A7 cameras are very reliable and durable. This is our experience after three years of harsh treatment.

    Me too have been using the A7rii for over 1 year and afew mths now.. Totally enjoying it.
    And recently I just got a second 1. So now I have 2. It's really good.
    I'm not worried whether the next generation going to come out ornot As the current A7Rii already surpass my needs n want.
    Also..even with new version is release. My A7Rii will still work n shoot. So.. DOnt see any problems there.
    AF - Fast enough..but for sports...wildlife.. not so great.
    Resolution- Very Good.
    ISO performance - Very Good.
    Battery life - Not that good. But if You carry afew. no problems.
    1 Card slot - Really not a problem to me. I've been shooting for 5 years now. So far. I NEVER had a time that my card fail on me. So 1 slot or 2 slot.. really dont bother me at all. Also ..anyways. (if shit happens. It happens. DOesnt matter u have 1 or 2 or 3 card slots.)
    Lastly.. Use the gear that works for you and will make you want to shoot with it. If Sony can do it for you. Go get a Sony. If not. You're very welcome to try other brands.
    Have a nice day everyone.

      sgpork I totally agree! Get the camera that works for you and stay with it as long as it's working for you. I also have 2 A7R2's, as I like the light weight prime Sony lenses. So at model shoots one has the 55 1.8, the other a 35 2.8. I can cover everything with those and no stopping to swap lenses. Also I wanted my backup camera to be exactly the same so I could memorize the settings etc and not miss a beat if something went wrong with one.

    The A7R2 has been out longer than you think : released 5 August 2015. When you said a year old I was thinking, I've had mine since June 2016. I'd research the camera for 9 months before I finally got one. (Shot Nikon top of the line gear for 10 years!) So I just looked up the release date. Great video! I have the grip but only use it rarely as it adds weight to the setup. Also I've been shooting with Sony 28 f/2, 35 f/2.8, 55 f/1.8 as they are super sharp and very lightweight. (And way less expensive than the GM line) I also travel with the 24-240 as I've found it way better than some reviews on it. And find it super sharp just like the other Sony lenses, tho heavier! The excellent 90 macro is larger but not really that heavy. My only real complaint is shooting a burst of shots, the slow cache makes you wait.

    Hey man, listened to your comment about hybrid shooting video and stills and I might have a solution. I use the memory one and two to store my video set up with the correct shutter speed rule and custom white balance modes the good thing about it is when you switch to the custom mode it has your basic settings baked in. You can do minor tweaks to it if needed you can even assign a picture profile to it as well. Hope that helps you.

    • @OrlandoMac
      @OrlandoMac 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      AntonTV.HD I was going to mention this, I shoot hybrid for real estate and I have mode dial one set to hdr 5 bracket and mode dial two to slog at 60fps with 120 shutter etc. works very easily and I flip back and forth rapidly including a flash shot in manual mode which I set differently.

    I switched from 5D MK3 to A7R2 back in 2015 August as well. I have almost no complaints other than the memory buffer being too small and booting speed. I will stick to my Sony gears.

    If you want to keep your video settings you can save it in memory recall. Just set up everything how you want it and save it. Since I did that, I have not once set the dial to video. I just use memory 1 or 2. Make sure your super 35 mode is set to auto if you want that saved too.

    I agree that I would definitely want the battery grip. But consider that plus the huge lenses, now it's basically the same size as a DSLR, with a smaller selection of overpriced lenses.... makes more sense for me to keep my DSLR for now

    I'm waiting for the refresh a7riii or a9 to switch completely. Need 2 card slots and a much bigger buffer and reliability in 4K (never overheating). A brand new pro battery would be nice too they've been using the same one since the NEX days.

    I would have loved owning a A7rll for landscapes. Not for portraiture or studio portraits, only time using a A7rll for portraits is for magazines or fashion work the required for large files. Absolutely love my A7ll for every occasion of photography even studio photography. And if I'm needing bigger files from the A7ll is shoot in uncompressed RAW. 42MB.

    Hello there! We are considering getting the a7R II to shoot video for our TH-cam channel. My main question is this, how is audio capture if you are using something like a Rode Pro mic on the camera and if not, how do you sync sound if you capture separately?

    I suppose you won't be using the Sony A7rii at the moment but were you happy with the colour performance of the camera when you used it?
    Don't you find the colours too saturated and with certain inaccuracy for a camera of this level?

    I have had it with sony being their beta tester. Sony release half baked products since a99. They frustrated me to the point that I sold all my carl zeiss and g lenses and Sony cameras - $15 000 kit at a loss. Sensor tech is top notch but sanity as an event shooter is more important to me. 5dmk3 proved to be a bullet proof camera with stellar lenses. I chose optical VF for speed and no battery drain. 5dmk4 is an awesome upgrade

      As a current owner of the A99ii and having tested the A7rii previously this what I feel. The A99ii trumps the A7rii in autofocus and fast action photography (due to the faster shutter speed). The A99ii also has better exposure modes (metering of the point of focus and highlight metering), better battery life and two card slots. Downsides to the A99ii are the camera is substantially heavier than the A7rii, some of the lenses are not as sharp as the FE mount lenses (ex the Sony Zeiss 50mm 1.4 SSM is not quite as sharp as the Sony Zeiss FE 50mm 1.4, even though the bokeh and micro-contrast is equally good on both lenses) and aperture is locked at 3.5 in video mode a real bummer.

      xell1969 I see the A99II as just another bulky DSLR. Unless you are shooting sports, action, (then get the A99II) the A7R2 can do it, and in a lighter package. Plus after all the FE glass I now have, I'll not be switching to a A mount camera anytime soon.

    Hi! I wanted your opinion , I have a canon 5d mark ii and have been trying to decide if I should sell it and some of my lens to purchase this camera. The 5d is just too heavy for me to carry and I have become spoiled with the weight and size of my Fuji x-pro 2. I was trying to decide if I should purchase this camera or just invest in lens for my Fuji system. I am not a professional photographer, I have shot a couple of weddings but mostly do it as a hobby in the hopes of one day making a living off it. I love my Fuji, but really think I still want to keep a full frame camera on hand for when I do landscape photography or if I continue to shoot weddings. Would you say selling my 5d mark ii is a good idea? Also I have a canon 70-200 f2.8 lens, if I switch to Sony would it be better to get the Sony 70-200 or could I just get the metabones adapter and keep my canon lens?

    Hi. I'm amazed that you do not discover Memory slots of this camera. You have 6memory slots : 1,2,M1,M2,M3,M4 where you can actually memorize a full stack of configurations.
    And with only one switch of the dialer from 1 stils on 1 slot, 2 video on 2 slot ... takes less thand 1sec to gun and run.
    Nevertheless. Great review.

    Borrowed the A7RII for several hours, loved everything but the lag, even though using a high speed card. Missed several shots and became frustrating. Also in 3 hours of shooting, the camera crashed twice. Hope Sony will address those issues in the next model.

    I enjoy your channel and loved the review but there is NO WAY you're shooting 2500 images on two batteries. I shoot anywhere from 250-1500 shots a day for work and I'm very familiar with the battery life. Plus, you're talking about using WIFI on top of it??? I have every single unnecessary feature turned off (pre-af, review, wifi, etc.) and I'm maybe getting 900-1000 (roughly) shots from two full charged batteries.

      he might not use the rear screen a lot. I shoot with fuji xt2's and with twin batteries in the grip I get easily over 2000 shots at a wedding, but I hear other photographers saying they can't get anywhere near that. I rarely turn the back screen on which is what I'm thinking is the difference.

    • @marcusadamsphotography5777
      @marcusadamsphotography5777 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. I was astonished at how few shots these batteries will produce when compared even to other small batteries like the Nikon D810. Never mind the batteries in something like a D3s.
      Why there is not a single, large capacity battery available for the grip I have no idea. Also, for such small batteries they seem to take forever to charge.

    • @DriveCancelDC
      @DriveCancelDC 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The D810 lasts long on batteries that aren't too much bigger because DSLRs use much less power. Well, actually if you use liveview a lot then DSLR battery life is usually quite bad too.

    • @AllenFreemanMediaGuru
      @AllenFreemanMediaGuru 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Dan Bigley He is correct as I can get that many shots on two batteries. I think it's because I turn off the camera when I'm not shooting. I don't use the LCD much at all. I don't review my shots much even in the EVF-- after I see them pop up as I'm shooting, im good. Unless a client wants to check our progress, of course. (I don't worry about the other settings to save battery life as I haven't had to. I don't use the grip much as it adds weight to the setup. It's very easy to keep batteries in a pocket and swap out in 4-5 seconds. 2 batteries last me a long enough for most everything.

    I'm planning to cycle around the world starting late 2017 and have only just started messing about with some old vids from crappy cameras and uploading them to TH-cam over the last couple of weeks, as I feel TH-cam could be good for me with this adventure, which could take me away from the UK for more than 3 years or many years longer, and as a result of my new interest in video, I am looking at 3 cameras to take with me. GoPro5, Mavic Pro Drone, and the a7rii.
    I would like to know your view on whether or not the Sony would be rugged enough for a trip like this, light enough, and versatile enough. 4K video is important to me, as at 54, this could be last great multi year adventure and I want something my grandkids will be watching for many years to come.
    And so, is this the camera for me, or would you recommend another? Thanks. Steve

      Hi Stephen I think he camera will be up to the job very well but if you plan to use for video you might consider the a7sii over the a7rii if you research a little. Also to consider if travelling light is the a6500 which will do an amazing job. I don't own the a7sii yet or an a6500 but will do soon and they will be my cameras for video of choice.
      Can I also ask how you managed to get a verified tick next to your name? as this usually takes a ton of subs and processes to get as I have looked into this, Hope you can help. Anyway all the best with your amazing adventure it sounds amazing.

    is it better to buy a6500 or a7rii if i am a hybrid shooter

      Darshil Gandhi I can answer this even if it is a 2 year old comment. If you are a hybrid shooter, both will suffice. But with the a7rii you get more versatility, f or example ( using full frame lenses un crop mode) its like converting a prime lens into two lenses. And you get all the megapixels on the a7rii for future proofing. I remember back 10 years ago 3mp was a lot, nowadays its not really usable.

    Currently I have two Sony cameras, and I like them. No offense but you cannot compare something that has a proven truck record like Canon and Sony. I understand you used to shoot weddings and highschool football teems. Come on! Sony is a nice camera (with very overpriced lenses) and Canon or Nikon are systems eco systems.

    For consumers Sony lenses are quite expensive. The set you have is about $6600. Canon equivalent lenses would be $5600.

      what's your point? I own a7r2 and a6000 too, and you aren't enforced to use G mount lenses. 55/1.8 , 28/2, 10-18, 24-240 and penty of old manual lenses ( like canon fd 50/1.4 ) gives me great flexibility and low weight over to Canon. I've been shooting with canon for over 10 years before, and Sony did a great job. Canon lost it's Mojo few years ago, and only doing apple "strategy"

      efem You do not understand above text? You do not understand that when I say that Sony lenses are more expensive than Canon? In your example Sony 55mm f1.8 costs $998 and Canon equivalent 50mm f1.8 costs $125. I was not talking about sensor technology but cost of lenses. Also adapted lenses will not get as good performance in Sony as native lenses.
