    Hey Prickly, been a viewer of your channel for awhile and was honored with the mention about my channel and video (Just fyi... GYGO is pronounced "Guy Go" when we say it). Anyway, I really do hope Pimax sorts it's issues out as they fill a very needed segment with the Crystal Light with the quality of the visuals at that price. I just think people have heard a lot of the same ol' stuff for years now so I hope this time is different. Time will tell I guess so lets keep our fingers crossed.

    Looking forward to your interview with the SA map devs. I just took a low level flight around Argentina in the SA-342 for the first time in a while, it's really come a long way in terms of looks and performance, please let them know some of us really appreciate the work they've put in.

    I have a love/hate relationship with my Crystal. The visuals are fantastic in DCS on high settings with DFR. Unfortunately the eye tracking will stop working at intervals from about 10 seconds to 10 minutes. If I use a USB 2.0 port the eye tracking works, but the headset will disconnect from time to time.

    I just received a Crystal Light this week (shipping was 2 weeks longer than projected and I had to file a complaint just to get a tracking number). Left lens is so blurry I have to tilt my head to the ceiling and look through the bottom of the lens just to read text. The right lens has the blur on the right 20%. Completely unusable. I've sent a note to Pimax, but have not heard back. I wonder if I just spent 1k on a paperweight...

    Even for civilians it shouldn't be much of a foreign concept. It's no uncommon to have degraded or lost GPS services out in the desert in the US, especially during major exercises. Always refer to NOTAMs (Even if they're just a bunch of garbage.)

    Honestly this year I've flown way more FS2020 than I have DCS. Sure, DCS's modeling of fighter aircraft is, on the whole, unchallenged by anyone else but at the same time, FS2020 does offer the globe, real time weather, and terrain based atmospheric effects. I've flown from Brownsville Texas up to Roanoke Virginia in a DA50, most recent trip ending in shooting an LDA approach into 08. I think this is a major problem with DCS, and by extension players. Sure a lot of these maps are cool but often times depicted NAVAIDS just flat out don't work, and most players just zoom around in perfect weather anyways. It's honestly not too hard to drop a laser guided bomb but shooting IFR approaches in bad weather I would say is far more difficult. Many players in both sims, but more so DCS, try to run before learning to walk. There's so much more when to comes to airmanship that players just don't get exposed to. And in the case of DCS, there's a few places you can try it, but mostly it's just a null point of the gameplay. I think it's a big part of why DCS doesn't feel that alive yet, as people are saying. In MSFS I do weather forecasting like I would in real life (I used to chase storms and whatnot before the pandemic), I do flight planning, I have to figure out if I need a diversion or not, which approach to take, blah blah blah. Just getting there is a challenge, and there are times where you got to make some judgement calls due to the weather being marginal and dynamic. I think if DCS can at least get real time weather, and fill out their existing maps so that fuel is an actual issue, let alone get some bigger ones in the game, it'd go a long ways towards making it feel more lifelike.

      Great points, dynamic weather, basic airmanship and training are some gaps in DCS. Along with ATC and AI tweaks, and the dynamic campaign.

    I wish they would have included South Georgia too but can't have everything I suppose!!
    EDIT is there a limit to how big the map can be? Since its just ocean being added plus a couple of Islands although it is 1500km ish from Stanley to South Georgia it would add loads of ocean for fleet operations and allow for a comprehensive Falklands Campaign to be built from start to finish....

    Had the original Crystal since launch, been great so far. That said, heard a lot of stories about faults, and most people I know that had to use their customer service had horrible experiences, which is a shame, since, imo, it's a great headset. Hopefully I'll never have to deal with their customer service.

    I ordered a Crystal Light on the 18th that was going to ship in "3-4 days". Still no tracking number, hope this isn't going to be their pace if I need to RMA it. Unfortunately, I think they know they have every current Reverb G2 owner bent over a dumpster, so I'm not overly optimistic about about getting a flawless product the first try.

      I ordered mine on October 18th. And got the same email saying it will ship in 1-3 days. I cancelled my order after 6 weeks and reaching out two times asking them as to when is it being shipped.

      I seen a pretty good video of a guys experience with their customer service, after messing him round over a year, then trying to get him to swap a og crystal ($1500) for a light ($700)and pay them an extra $300 (cant remember exact amount). Then they were in the comments saying were not like that, let us fix it cuz they didnt know he was on youtube. I cant see me buying from that type of company

      ​@@brandonchappell1535 Yeah, I saw that video, not a great situation. Really rather just keep using my Reverb G2, but I need to be able to keep my OS updated because I have some very expensive professional software on my PC. The other thing fishy about pimax is that I think they did an all out influencer marketing blitzkrieg on TH-cam for the Crystal Light, and while the specs seem good, I can't help but feel like the almost $1000 out the door could have been a lot cheaper if they didn't market it like someone selling crack on the street corner.

    Cherry picked units not to unbelievable. They wouldn't even offer me one to test claiming not having enough units. Between that and only giving $10 off while making $40 per sale for something I can't even test just seemed like a bad deal for me to put my name behind, and the people using the code to get a fractional discount compared to what I would make I gladly turned them down.

      They always claim to not have enough units, it's why warranty replacements take months and months. They operate a just in time supply mentality because they don't want money tied up in stock which is actually causing them real brand damage because they can't respond quick enough. It's a bad management strategy that puts profit before customer experience and never works well in the long run.

      @TacticalDCS I've had most of the HMDs from early oculus SDK through valve and vive to pimax and Varjo XR4... The valve and vive have been the most reliable for me. Currently using Vive Pro 2 with no issues and my pimax 8k X DMAS is a fancy ornament gathering dust cos pimax tanked it with a shitty update which killed external tracking. Shitty company with overpriced garbage dressed up to look good.They use influencers who don't know what they are talking about to peddle b/s for free headsets.

    Prickly, I have the OG Crystal as well and had a similar issue. There is a chance that it’s not a dead cable. I thought my batteries were charged and it turns out they weren’t. I plugged them in again and you should be looking for a flashing red light to indicate it is charging. Then once I got plugged in there is a sequence that is recommended. I would have to google it again to find it, but the way you plug it in matters and then before you do that you hit the power button a bunch of times when it’s unplugged to ensure you get rid of any power draw in the cables. Once I followed that it worked! It’s been working since. I will try and find that for you as well.

      “Remove all the cables, hub and battery. Once removed, hit the power button on the crystal 10 times with short presses. Restart the PC and follow the sequence: 1. Plug in USB 2 cable 2. Plug in USB 3.0 cable to the hub 3. Plug the HUB USB into your PC USB port 4. Plug the DP cable into your GPU 5. Power on the crystal-Do this by holding down the power button for 20 seconds on ital startup 6. Launch Pimax Play”
      Hope that helps my man. This drove me nuts for like three weeks trying to figure it out. I even bought a new USB hub and that didn’t work. For all the videos I’ve watched of yours for help, I hope I am able to return the favor.

    The Crystal Super is coming out January with a further different panel type for it in March. Why rush into buying a Crytal Light now? Literally in a month or so reviewers might be raving about the Crystal Super being the headset to buy and the Crystal Light is yesterday's news. Personally, I'm waiting until reviewers get their hands on the Super before commiting to buying anything.

      That's a fair point, but I suspect price point might be a conflict. 2K for a headset and higher GPU prices as well.

    Just a reminder, the Quest 2 and Quest 3, make up over 50% of SteamVR users, per the Steam hardware report.
    Pimax makes up less than a half a percent. (0.5%)
    even with their horrible marketing strategy that preys on those who fail to do their research. they are on-par user wise with the Bigscreen Beyond, which has basically no marketing.
    why is this important? well do you want some expensive piece of tech that could be thrown in the garbage in a few years with no support, akin to the HP Reverb being phased out of existence due to windows killing off WMR?
    or do you want to experience VR with the "White Toyota Camry" of headsets -- the Quest 3?
    If you are fine with taking the gamble with Pimax (I did, and lost) then have at it, but realize you're basically buying a Chrysler or Mercedes... high specs on paper, but bad reliability.
    That's not to say there aren't people out there who have good ones, but if you dig a little deeper than the fake ass TH-cam shill reviews, and the fake bot reviews from their website, you'll see they're a horrible predatory company. and that's not to say the Quest 3 is the ultimate headset, it has its own problems, but in comparison to Pimax? they're trivial.

      @@Pricklyhedgehog72 I went through four 5k+'s in a little under a 90 day period trying to get a good one. first one arrived and was good for a few days before screen started doing this weird tearing thing (screen would have a permanent tear in horizontally through it), then it finally just died.
      all the rest had one or both screens show up DOA. on the 4th return they tried to upsell me on an 8k, but that it would also take 3-6 months to get me one, and the total price out the door (5k+ cost + upgrade) would have been a good 50% higher than if I bought an 8k from the get go.
      Once I told them no, I want a refund for the broken devices until they could sort out their bad Quality Control they tried to blame it on me saying I was the reason they were broken.
      I then had to file a chargeback and complaint through American Express. Once that happened and they realized what I did they finally sent me a label to return the headset.
      After that I bought a Reverb, used the absolute piss out of that. Then bought a Quest 3 on a whim on release and honestly its the best VR experience I've had. It has its quirks for sure, but compared to WMR or Pimax trash? no comparison. the Meta Oculus team has actually put the work in on this thing on a mass market level, not like some bullshit cheap chinese nonsense with pimax.

    How in the hell could anyone have a problem with ED saying “hey, for $10 you can have a graphically upgraded F-5E…if not, you can keep flying the one you had”.????? Seriously??? It’s an OPTION; take it or don’t. I guess they think ED should do this stuff for free?
    It’s just like the Afghanistan map…”hey, you can buy the whole map and get it all hi-def…OR…if money is tight, you can buy the 1/2 you like best in hi-def and the other half will be low-def”. What is the problem? Want the whole map in high def? Then buy it. Can’t afford it or only want 1/2, then buy half. How is giving customers options a bad thing,?????

      Transactional company who don't see any real value in customer service. Always pushing the short term new customer bottom line instead of the lived experience which feeds the long term bottom line andxbrand loyalty. Can't see them lasting much longer at this rate.

      Lots of peoples that have money to have decent PC and intellectual capacity to learn playing PC games have mental problems like Autism, Asperger, Schizophrenia...or are simply narcissistic, etc. Some just love to gaslight.This individuals are unable to live in peace with the rest of society. Some players don`t know how to structure their time with meaningful activities and end up frustrated with own life. Then they ventilate pessimism and anger online because criticizing is easy and divert attention from own shortcomings.. Best to ignore them so we can be grateful for having digital aircraft museum called DCS enabling us to fly our favorite planes.

    Of course they test units before going out to testers! It’s only sensible and a fairly standard practice. Even the best quality products can have problems sometimes and it’s a big hit to the brand reputation if a tester gets a dodgy unit, no matter how rare dodgy units are.
    Even if the extra product testing is just a brand manager plugging it in, making sure it works and nothing in the box is missing.
    This isn’t a conspiracy theory and it’s fairly standard practice. It’s usually marketing people who will send a unit out for review and the marketing department is typically rather siloed from the rest of a company. Maybe not in a small company but certainly in anything considered medium sized and up. I spent a lot of my working life consulting with companies telling them not to do this but I was mostly ignored unless it was a luxury product company.
    Testing should be a standard part of any product chain and an extra ‘sanity check’ before a product goes to someone whose opinion holds more weight than the typical customer is considered a good business practice.
    Sure, it’s ethically on the line, but it is what it is.
    I have no idea if Pimax does this but if they don’t now, they most likely will be as the company expands and the potential loss of sales due to a faulty product being sent to a reviewer becomes more and more financially serious.

      @julianmorrisco that's not quite what I meant, no doubt all tje units are tested. The implications was that somehow I was getting some sort of special unit, one that actually worked for sure, rather than an off the shelf luck of the draw thing. It was an influencer unit....in other words.

    Ive made it a point not to buy products produced by a chinese company anymore because their QC seems to be intentionally lacking as well as their ethics. My Winwing MIPS had unsoldered USB-C ports, and "borrowed" designs from VKB for their new Ursa Minor. Moza seems to like stealing other peoples proprietary software as well, and a few months ago I ordered a Pimax Crystal which didnt work at all. Tired of the expensive "cheap" flight simulator gear that comes from China. By the way, theres a difference when an outside China company outsources TO China as they have some sort of QA while chinese companies do not. Having worked the manufacturing business for 20 years, one knows what to look for. Its easier to build expensive things on the cheap side with no quality than it is to assure quality since rework is pulled out of the equation and if it works, it works. YOU are the quality control. Cheaper just to replace it than make sure it works before you ship it out. Yes, thats exactly how it works. This is why Wal Mart electronics always seems to be broken the moment you take them home.

      👆this. Communism still runs deep in China despite appearing capitalist on the surface. Most companies simply don't care about customer service because not so long ago you were lucky just to have food and basic amenities - you took what was given and were expected to shut up. Customer service is a reflection of this mindset and one would do well to stay away from companies like Pimax. Chinese companies with good customer service is the exception, not the rule. Taiwan on the other hand has a far better reputation because it has had a modern economy longer than the mainland. Whenever possible, buy from Taiwan.
      And don't listen to Prickly when it comes to purchases because he doesn't know what he's talking about. If he actually had to pay for his own headsets he wouldn't be so dismissive.

    I am getting frustrated so much stuff needs updating, still in early access, ww2 maps keep getting updated but no more aircraft even ai.

    VR may well be very good, but I can't afford a top end PC and all the VR kit, so it is a 32 inch screen at 1080 for me.

      And so you never have the immersion of flying. You will never know until you try it.... I use a RiftS since the VR is supported in DCS. It was many ups and downs but now you do not have any top end config if you are using a lower res headset like the RiftS. (My previous 1080ti + 4790k sysmet was enough to fly on medium-low settings). But nope, never return to 2d display, it is the differnce of flying vs playing.

    Still got poor performance with my 4090 i9 13K 64GB SSD pimax crystal light. Have to setup and use VR preset, looks rubbish.
    Just wish ED would fix....🙏

      If you've done this already disregard, but make sure you delete your FXO and metashaders folder, this can clear up some conflicts.

      They'll rebuild once you restart the game, but often conflict the longer they remain untouched after a series of u[dates.

    Pimax produce great kit. However, their customer service is dreadful. Electronics fail on occasions for the reasons you stated. What riles me is the lack of customer support if issues/failures arrise.

      BTW I have a Pimax headset which had an issue (audio) out of the box. It took me the better part of 6 months to get sorted. Very painful process!

      I'm holding off on my purchase. I've never liked the their business model which seems almost to be a pyramid scheme. Now with their "Prime" subscription model it's even worse. In their marketing they say "with Prime you get great customer service" What? So if I don't pay for a subscription, I get worse customer service!? Laughable. watched Gamers Nexus video about the scam that NZXT is pulling with their "lease a gaming PC" and I get the same vibe from Pimax. I'm sure the headset is great, if you get a working one, but their bad reputation and lack of quality checking stops me from buying it. I'd much rather go for a Meta Quest 3 at this point...and if the new HTC headset had pancake lenses I would buy that in a heartbeat! That looks like the BMW of VR headsets!
