Beautiful communities in the El Dorado and Lake Tahoe area but not so much without the forests. When winter comes around I’m hoping to get more support from my neighbors as we thin and do prescribed burning on our twenty acres within the Stanislaus N. F.

Been also watching the lookout and you. You both are the only ones that do this right. All other news outlets are just inciting fear and making things worse with their “if it bleeds it leads” mentality.
Love you for this channel ever since the Oroville days. 🤙🏼🤙🏼

I second the recommendation for The Lookout channel. The overlay of fires on the 3D topography is very informative!

Excellent work, as usual Juan. Something very interesting is happening thanks to the internet and folks like yourself. Take a look at the wild fire reporting from most network sources and compare those with what you see here and at some other high-quality content providers and you'll notice a wide gap in information and presentation quality. I think the end game is clear: the future belongs to folks like Juan who contribute far more thanks to their experience and dedication to providing valuable content. Times, they are a changing.

Totally agree...the old method of TV networks showing dramatic pictures and interviews about information that is hours and hours old and not predictive or timely is outdated. The newscasters might be a little prettier than Juan though, ha.....

I agree too but unfortunately the managers of TH-cam don’t. They heavily favour “corporate” news. CNN, etc. If you search TH-cam for wildfire news you will get only corporate sources.

@@michaelrausch6950 You nailed it. I suppose there will always be some folks more interested in drama and pretty faces than quality content, so the networks may survive a few more years...

@@darrinsiberia Amen, bro. You said it- social media and television in general keeps feeding the fears and anxiety in many of us and we're overdosed. The high rate of suicides, social unrest, vile comments posted by many show a massive problem we need reversed ASAP. Very good point.

8:00 The Lookout channel's graphics are excellent! They show fire behavior mapped onto 3D topography, which shows so compellingly how fire tends to burn so readily up to the peaks of ridges, and so is guided significantly by topography, rather than just "spreading across the map". (Of course wind and presence of fuel are other essentials too, but both of those interact with topography also.)

The pilot pics are awesome thanks for another great report. Been watching Zekes reports and Katheryn's 24 hour feed ... both great feeds... so great people are getting on TH-cam many like myself do not have Fakebook accounts. Wish Cal Fire had a TH-cam channel for briefings and even cockpit footage would be awesome.

It feels almost unreal that the Bay Area isn't getting tons of smoke. Those off-shore winds have spared us on air-quality, unlikely prior years. At least so far! Last year my wife was making noises about wanting to move because of all the smoke. But... move where? Not even the poles have consistent weather bereft of natural disasters, any more these days.
Meanwhile, this year, I have friends who live near Carson City NV who are telling me that their AQ meters are reading 400-900 and that they are running their Winnix air cleaners 24x7 to keep the air inside the house breathable.

Nah, they don’t want him. It would be hard for the media to over sensationalize the situation with him on board. They’d rather have headlines like “Nevada Plans for ‘Worst Case’ Scenario for Caldor Fire” (Actual Headlines) with a news lady standing in the middle of an empty street talking about how busy the area usually is this time of year with the orange backdrop looking like a post-apocalyptic war zone.

Meanwhile, in southwest Los Angeles County, we got a few sprinkles yesterday! There are three small fires lined up south to north in the I-15/ Cajon Pass area in San Bernardino County. These are being brought under control, and our relative humidity is rising, but their placement looks suspicious to me. I just wish we could import some of that hurricane moisture from the southeastern U.S.

Juan's showing the most astounding and wonderful thing I've ever seen shown on maps! That is the unburned corridor of Christmas Valley? (that we watched the fire approach with overwhelming doom and dread - saved!) and the housing developments that were saved by a timely and strategic backburn that saved 20-50 homes! These are magnificent California experiential disasters, like quakes. What're ya gonna do about it? The fire was actually cut in half for a front of 10 or more miles to protect peoples property best we can. Hooray! It is magnificent, war-like work and struggle, horror and fears by the bucket load and bringing out the best we got too, imho.
This IS a big and terrible war with salvoes by the enemy leveling whole American towns in just a few hours. Juan is doing peerless work here like NO ONE before! He is better than Walter Cronkite and Edward R. Murrow during the blitzkrieg of WW II. Fire season in California is affecting all aviation west of the Mississippi, it's so BIG and BAD, and may have caused the recent freak crash in Truckee/Tahoe airport a month ago.

"Gender reveal" device ignited the El Dorado fire near Yucaipa last September. The couple at fault called 911, so the cause was known right away. However, the responsible couple were not charged until July of this year, because the thing had to be "investigated," and the fire had to be completely out. I suppose most of the investigation involved gathering accurate data to use as evidence in the trial. Presumably that would include number of buildings and other property damaged or destroyed, and their dollar value. Also, injuries and the firefighter death would have to be demonstrated to be caused by their reckless activity. The death was being charged as involuntary manslaughter, according to news reports.
The really sad thing is that there will be other people who will do similarly stupid things, because, you know, they've gotta have their little "celebration" and make it memorable!

Odd that we protect a structure that takes 15-20 trees to build, but in the process, sacrifice thousands to millions of actual trees. I know people are attached to their structures, but the trees will take 50 or more years to regenerate. A structure can be rebuilt in a few months as long as there are still some trees left to rebuild it. Mixed priorities?

It is called backfire...dangerous but if accomplished correctly very effective.
