I was at herons yesterday, for the first time in my life! Surreal experience after watching all the videos for such a long time! Peter was so nice and welcoming! I recommend everyone to visit him once! Beautiful beautiful beautiful!!!! Greetings from Switzerland
Always a pleasure to watch these walk through videos. I have been fortunate to visit twice in person and found Peter quite gracious and welcoming and the nursery beautiful and inspiring.
"No one has monopoly of wisdom"...... I thing you do! LOVE your videos and your kindness, you are awesome Peter. And your trees are always looking their best on your hands. I wish I could be there one day
I am from the state. It's a great pleasure to watch your videos. Please keep talking because it helps so much . I'm just getting into this and you're the best . Thank you
This is so odd I was arguing with a family member recently and they were being a bit of a know it all and rude so I asked a series of questions and said “No one has a monopoly on knowledge, you might know nothing about something that is someone’s whole world”. I regret blowing up like that. I plan to own bonsai but mainly right now I watch to be calm and at peace. Thanks for video and a reminder to be level headed today.
I love your videos. So glad I stumbled across your channel I was going to start trimming my trident maples back but glad you said not to. I'm in Germany so our temps are some what close to each other I did plant some lace leaf maple seeds in December
_THANK YOU sharing 🙏😔🙏_ Dr. Chan, when dealing with plants, there is always something to be done, something. The discussion about when to plant seeds is very interesting. There are quite a few "rules", but maybe it is "what works" for one, at that time. Refrigeration does break most dormancy, but there is a great argument as to whether to _freeze_ or not. Any video that you do is filled with knowledge. Do enjoy your winter. Spring is only a few days away. 🌲🙏🖖🙏😔🙏🌲
We are going into autum here in South Africa and I've picked up some acorns frim different types of oaks. So they are now in my refrigerator and I'll see if they germinate. I'm going back on Sunday to collect some more acorns and will try to germinate them by just leaving them on a windowsill. I agree, it is so rewarding growing from seed!
I'd love to see more of your dawn redwoods. I remember a particular video from a few years back where you showed us a meter tall one, and also I believe you created a forest at one point. Such magnificent trees.
I love your work, and I would like to visit the nursery one day, but may I suggest a better audio, like a noise reduction mic, so we can hear you well, especially when you walk away from the camera and when there are airplanes flying around, (which is often )
Mr Peter thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. This is much appreciated 🙏🏽 I have a question and I hope you could give me advice. I have bought seeds from Ulmus Parvifolia and Acer Buergerianum. On the package it said I have to keep it warm and then stratified it. Could I sow the seeds outside now or am I too late? I’m from the Netherlands. Kind Regards, Wesley
German viewer here, do you have special advice for sowing dawn redwoods? We have one big dawn redwood in our garden but because of recent draughts, I'm always afraid of it dying. I've tried two years to get seedlings but haven't been successfull yet.
Redwoods are notoriously hard to grow from seed. I have a batch of sequoias in my fridge ready to go but last year I didn't get any sprouts from a few hundred seeds.
Hi, Place the seeds in luke warm water for 24 hours with a heat pad . After that control them maybe one or two will show life. The ones from the bottom of the water you can plant them inside. The rest put them in a zip lock bag with some soil and slight moisture and into the fridge for at least 6 weeks. Keep the planted seed moist until they sprout and for about 20 days.
I would love to find some quality resin bonsai training pots. The larger to medium sized rectangular ones are the type that I am looking for. Can you help point me in the right direction to getting some pots like those? I’m in the US (California).

You have to get good seed.

Hello ! I'm going to sow my Japanese black pines and cedrus deodora seeds this spring, is it working also with pure sand?
It might depend upon the sand, too fine and it will compact. The compost will also hold moisture better.
It's better to plant in the winter. Cold stratification? I'm old, forgetting my terms.
I heard that japanese black pines don't need cold stratification. Anyway, I can plant them now? (since it's winter)@@nancyfahey7518
Dont fall for the mrmaple ads!
Have your trees ever been buried in 3 feet of snow?
No not under 3 ft, but under 2 ft - yes, many years ago.
@@peterchan3100 thanks for sharing. And thank you for making banzai so accessible. If it wasn’t for your videos, I wouldn’t have any trees.
