He may seem bitter, but hes just being honest, and is probably sick of being asked about Kurt Cobain, someone who was HIS roadie before Nirvana made it big. He isn't a god to anyone but the fans. His contemporaries saw him as another guy in a band.
Buzz was the person who made Cobain a fan of punk rock and also made Kurt want to pursue music. Buzz to me, seems like he's talking about a friend he loves and lost to addiction. He was on the bill for nirvana's last tour and supposedly talked with Kurt prior to his last show about leaving Courtney because she's going to try to take everything out of him she could. He said don't walk run! Then nirvana opens with my best friends girl. A cars cover. Possibly a nod about Cali being both his best friend and ex of Courtney.
Melvins once played our little town in central Cali and my band was booked as support for them. At the last minute we were informed the melvins don’t like local bands as their support and we were kicked off the slot after we had sold lots of tickets and promoted heavily for the gig. Forever have a bad taste in my mouth when I hear the Melvins.
I only came here to see a video by this band because Scott on tape did a video on this "famous" Melvan dodge van that Kurt Cobain drove. I just don't see what people like about these guys. No technical abilities, no vocal skills, and a mediocre drummer.
Jesus Cobain fanboys are cringe. Buzz loved that guy but he’s a sober no nonsense realist who saw addiction destroy his musical community so I’m gonna forgive the guy for being blunt. The dude has had years to terms with the sadness and waste. His words may seem disrespectful or look like jealousy, but keep in mind this was a real person to him, an actual close friend. Not a guy on poster on your wall that you spent your youth idolizing and mythologizing. I’m sure if you asked Buzz if he would have like the Melvins to be more popular he’d say ‘of course’, every artist would, but he’s also made a comfortable living for himself making uncompromising music and that is the very definition of success. The Melvins never made an album where they ‘went for it’. They never tamed their sound and incorporated pop hooks, if they did that could at least provide some evidence of ‘jealousy’, but the Melvins are the Melvins, and Buzz talks about Kurt like he was a ‘friend’, a ‘guy’ and a ‘junkie’ cause that’s what he was to him and y’all can’t wrap your head around it or forgive him for that.
I’m late on this but your 100% right, I love the Melvin’s for not caving, the only times you hear pop hooks are with Cobain as producer, notably black bock in stag, only time they ever used “poppy” chords and singing. Very interesting god bless the Melvin’s
I saw the Melvins about 12 times in a span of 1-2 years in the early 90's... Walked into a room, saw a Les Paul and played it, thought He would get mad but was cool... When they were good, they were really really good!!!
Lots of respect to the well-informed comments in this section, however, I do feel something is being left out. There are trailblazers; self-made; personally motivated people that simply don't fit into pre-existing molds. Kurt was one of those. His business skills, self-management & other traits criticized here, were exemplary when it came to getting shit done for Nirvana. No excuses for the effects of drugs - he was a trailblazer - they don't fit any molds - they just create personas that no one fully comprehends.
I love Kurt. I love Buzz. I met Buzz last month. He's so nice, thought he would hack my head off. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 show was solid and heavy. Buzz has a lot of willpower.
I just clicked on this video to write this comment. Lamewire SUCKS and I didn't even watch one second of this video because of how much this channel SUCKS. That is all.
Its seems like if kurt is mentioned in any video about anything, the comments are always arguing about something. At the end of the day know of your know kurt, you know the singer of nirvana. Atleast buzz actually knew kurt. All of you speak like you know what he like and dislikes, like you all and kurt are childhood friends.
That is completely wrong. As someone who’s spent over two decades in the recording and touring business, I can say that someone would be lucky to ever encounter or work with a more down to earth and realistic person than Buzz.

I think you can hear Buzz Osborne's vocal influence on Bleach and other early Nirvana songs and in some of the guitar riffs. I thought, when I first heard Milk it, the riff sounded similar to "it's shoved" (one of the first beats I learned on the drums). I saw them a few years ago. They did a good cover of Kiss' Deuce. I can’t tell if buzz talks about Kurt this way because he is genuine and is harbouring feelings (about kurts suicide and drug addiction) because he was actually close with Kurt or if he’s just jealous that the dynamic changed between the two when Kurt became the big star.
After seeing so many of his interviews I have to say it looks like he has deep seeded jealousy, or even anger, that somehow the Melvins didn't hit the big time like some of his contemporaries did. He goes off on Cobain a lot and he even seems resentful to Dave Grohl, who by all accounts is one of the nicest most down to earth guys in the business. I think Buzzo resents that he isn't a big rich rock star and in his eyes some of his "inferior" friends are big rich rock stars. He really doesn't even try to hide it either. He should probably get counseling.
@@hazeofthegreensmoke505 Kurt had problems before fame and weren’t gonna go away with fame or without fame either so I don’t see how buzz can come to the conclusion Kurt would be alive if he hadn’t made it big. I think Cobain did exactly what he set out to do, be a huge success and burn out.

I can't speak for how often he was like this elsewhere, but I'd bet that wasn't the only time he treated a woman like that. Since Buzz is not a woman maybe he didn't see that side of Gene in action.
Nah, he is top shelf wanker. But if it makes you feel better and want sum up the guys entire personality based on f Buzz spending a few hours around him and not publicly stating anything bad about the guy in an interview, go right ahead..

Big Brother(Buzzo) Little Brother (Kurt) If it weren't for Buzzo letting Kurt and Krist hang out with him and watch his Band practice, WHO KNOWS if there ever would have been a Nirvana.[?] The Melvins weren't stupid. They SAW Kurt's raw talent and helped him as best they could. When Kurt died they were on good terms and were STILL good friends. Of course, Kurt gets ALL the credit for his talent, and legendary music, but I think Buzzo should get a little bit of credit for being friendly with Kurt, and influencing him musically, as well as LOANING him his drummer for a while.

He's only a rock "god" because he died before the band plateaued. He'd just be part of the endless list of older bands doing world tours or reunions to cash in if he was still alive.
@@Bubblyjuffting we will never know
@@marcojordan2839 But we do know. By seeing all the old school rock bands do world tours?!? lol He wouldn't have been any different
@@Bubblyjuffting well that's subjective, the rolling stones, ac dc, ozzy osbourne, etc. kept filling up stadiums till the end all around the world. Metallica and RHCP r still really popular and evolving. Now take that n multiply by God and you get Nirvana.
@@marcojordan2839 xd
Going blind is a fukin rockin tune!!! Melvin's rock man! And buzz is a totally cool level headed no bullshit kinda dude, def the kind of rocker you could sit down and have a beer with or shoot the shit with on a long flight and he wouldn't give you the I'm better than you so don't talk to me vibe.
When you don't sell a lot of albums, you have to write a lot of music.
@@andrepereira744 lmk when he has one that sells 30M....yeah, everyone becomes a rockstar to live with their parents.
I love Kurt but I cannot blame Buzz, as an addict myself.
Buzz is a great guitar player, but he can't write such a cool songs like Kurt. Everyone envied Kurt. Because he is handsome, talented, instantly gained fame. Kurt was a true rock hero. ! ... But Buzz is just a Buzz......😊😊
Have no idea who this guy is but he’s telling the truth.
Every time I hear Buzz talk about Kurt/Nirvana I get a strong feeling he's very bitter about some stuff regarding Kurt and the success of Nirvana.
If anything he's bitter about watching Kurt deteriorate from drugs. He really became a mess of a person.
@@microVoid883 Ya, I don't think that's it, although that may have indeed sucked. I think he's jealous of Nirvana's success to be honest. The Melvins were around well before Nirvana and worked damn hard to be the breakout success they never really achieved. I think he feels the Melvins should have done better and he somehow has a chip on his shoulder that everytime someone wants to talk to him it's often about Nirvana.
@@ddobry21 or he just has a dim view of it after being asked about them for 30 years
@Jay And what leads you to that conclusion? I know plenty about both bands. And I'm not even talking Melvins, I'm talking about Buzz Osborne as an individual and I stand by my observations that he's bitter about something to do with Kurt or Nirvana as a band. And from listening to him talk, I would say it's to do with Nirvanas success.
What you think really doesn’t matter.
Melvins version of goin blind is phenomenal
Yes it is! I hated when i discovered it was a Kiss cover..... I hate Kiss
