  • Cliffe Knechtle has a great conversation with college students at a campus in the southwest US.
    The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

    I'm a believer living in South Africa and I like watching your videos and thank you beloveds.
    One thing though; it doesn't make sense to me why would Christopher H be upset when the doctors said "You are sick..."! Because as he was an atheist; "YOU" to him wouldn't necessarily mean anything more other than the physical body. Which is in line with his worldview thus no need for him to be upset! Instead he should have been upset with what he's quoted by Stuart here to have said; "My body is sick .....it needs to come down"! Because "My" is a possessive adjective that shows that something belongs to the person speaking. It is used to describe a noun or pronoun, indicating ownership or possession. For example:
    - "My car" means the car belongs to me.
    - "My name" means the name belongs to me.
    - "My friend" means the friend belongs to me (is a friend of mine).
    So the point that Stuart is making; makes more sense to me if the doctors said "Your body is sick!" And Christopher being upset responded by saying, "What do you mean that my body is sick? I am sick!" Unless Stuart in this video accidentally switched the characters' words in the story.
    Keep up the good work guys and may God bless you that you find the One True Church which He want everyone to be a member of.

    Cliffe is absolutely right when he says "if the evidence is reliable, then you can trust it", but I think it's also fair to say sometimes even reliable evidence can be found to be inerrant or wrong. Throughout history mankind has had to re-assess things we've thought were true. There are lots of things in the Bible which many of us today would be seen as untrue. I agree with Cliffe when he says it's good to be skeptical.

    • @Justanidea5976
      @Justanidea5976 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What things would you say are untrue?
      I agree with him too, that it is good to be skeptical. One of the most dangerous things a human being can have is blind faith but also ultimate ignorance.
      Yes, it is fair that some evidence can be wrong but that depends on what type of evidence it is and what you're looking at that evidence for. Some would say that the search for evidence of even one simple object could take eternity if you're being cynical about it. But we use evidence upon existing evidence to give reason to something existing or happening. You do give a good point but we have to be careful to not become cynical or just ignoring something if there's a minimal chance it can be falsified later.
      Btw, It's awesome seeing you on every video comment section and I really wish that people with opposite beliefs or ideas would be more like this instead of dividing people. I'm still growing in my faith in God but I have a lot of questions for Him as I'm sure many of us do. Thankyou for being here.

      @@Justanidea5976 Hi, thanks for your kind words. You are absolutely correct, there is a big difference between cynical and skeptical, I am very much on the side of skepticism when it comes to religions in general. You ask me what things I would say are untrue?, well, in regards to the New Testament, I am very skeptical of much of what is written about Jesus, I am highly skeptical of the whole story of Jesus coming down to this planet as Gods son ( as part of the trinity), him performing miracles and dying for our sins. I well aware that if you are raised to believe all this, it kind of makes sense, but as the decades have gone by, I became more and more skeptical of what I was being asked to believe in. Can I prove conclusively that it's untrue?, no, but by the same token, I don't believe you, or anyone else can prove it's true. I am not a closed book, I'm open to good evidence if you have any. btw, where are you from Byakuya?, your name sounds Japanese. As you probably know, I'm in the UK :-)

      @@Justanidea5976 Hi Byakuya Togami
      Hi Byakuya, yes, I agree too, I'm a skeptic and it is good to be a skeptic, now, of course, one could go way over the top and out of proportion when applying skepticism and asking for evidence lol, because, yes, a particular thing may have already provided proportionately sufficient justification for believing in it or may not demand any skepticism at all, it does very much depend on what is being claimed and whether or not it matters enough in a given context to warrant checking.
      For example, if you told me you went down the road shopping today and I turned around and said "oh really Byakuya? I don't believe it, prove it, prove to me you went down the road shopping today, come on, I want lots and lots and lots and lots of hard proof you want shopping" and then you showed me the receipt you got and you showed me the shopping you bought and I said "that could be a fake receipt and you could have bought that shopping yesterday and not today like you claim", I'm sure you would think I was being unreasonable towards you, right?
      And I would be being unreasonable to you, that's skepticism gone way over the top lol, after all, you going down the road shopping doesn't matter to me or anyone, so why should I care whether you were telling me the truth or not? Why would I need a supreme level of evidence just for something mundane like that? I wouldn't, that's not the kind of claim we need skepticism for, you see, skepticism has to be applied in PROPORTION to each claim until it meets its intrinsic burden of proof, eg, if you, on the other hand, told me you could walk on water, raise the dead, turn water into wine, heal all kinds of cancers in people, then, I wouldn't be so unreasonable to be asking you for that same kind of supreme evidence, I would expect you to demonstrate it and then subject yourself to the highest level of examination to check to see if you might be utilizing trickery etc, as opposed to it being divinely orientated.
      Because this second claim is much more significant than just going down the road shopping, that second claim would be, in fact, world-changing, if it were true, so on that basis, I have a right to demand a much higher level of evidence for that claim and if you fail to provide that level of evidence, then that gives me the right to dismiss the claim, now, unfortunately, the claims that the Bible and people make about Jesus and what he did have so far FAILED to meet that proportionately higher standard of evidence required too, hence we doubt them.
      Every "divine healing" claim that has so far been made has fallen short of high-level scrutiny, it's not enough for someone to claim to be healed, they will need to be thoroughly examined, they will need to be subject to background checks to see if they really were sick and not just in-house actors used by a particular ministry (yes, this has been known, Peter Popoff ministries was one of them), other possibilities have to be looked at, I mean sometimes people can just get better from an illness, the human body is amazing, God as a correlation to the healing has to be proven in those cases, just getting better from being ill doesn't prove divine healing is possible, it only shows healing is possible, we all know healing is possible, the 'divine' bit is where skepticism needs to be applied.
      At the end of the day, if there really was a good God/Jesus who could heal the sick and do all of these other miraculous claims, not only wouldn't they mind us being skeptical and conducting thorough checks, they would love it, because those claims would easily survive the highest level of scrutiny and show the world that they are real but the reality is that all the ones investigated so far have crumbled under the extra level of examination, at the very best, there are a small number of cases that are classified as "unexplained", usually because there is no way to check, that's not the same as being confirmed, there has so far not been one positively confirmed divine healing anywhere, if there was it would make front page news, it would beat Donald Trump and Brexit to it that's for sure lol, there are plenty of claims, sure, I know what, loads of stories about "miracle healings" etc but none confirmed and another problem is that the Jesus of the Bible actually frowned upon skepticism and encouraged believing without seeing, which is really very silly advice.

      @@bonnie43uk Well, I'm not Japanese but the character, Byakuya, is. He's from a game called Danganropa. It's pretty good.
      I understand that you are skeptical but that doesn't mean it's untrue. These people wrote what they saw or heard from Jesus or His appointed disciples. Some of them were even unbelievers until they saw Jesus and had to write about it. You're right in saying that I can't prove it but there is evidence and these people died for what they saw and others saw.
      Btw, how is the UK?

    • @bonnie43uk
      @bonnie43uk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Justanidea5976 Absolutely Byakuya, being skeptical of a claim doesn't make that claim untrue, I am in full agreement with you. Here's the thing though, ..Jesus came down to planet earth with a message for all mankind.. that message was that he died for all of mankind's sins, and that, if we believe in him 100% and repent for our sins, then, when we die, we go to heaven. ( have I got that right)? ( I know there's more to it than that, but basically, that is the gist of Christianity).
      I have lots of issues and questions about the whole New Testament claim. If I genuinely disbelieve that story why can't I simply get on with my life, doing the best I can, helping others, being kind et cetera.. According to the Gospels anyone who rejects Christ ( and I reject Christ), I am hellbound. As a Christian growing up I was constantly threatened with the flames of eternal hell if I rejected Christ. When Adults tell you this as you are growing up, it plays on your mind, you have nightmares, you think of your friends who aren't Christians having to spend an eternity in Hell. This whole idea of some people going to heaven, and some going to hell has been with me all my life, I'm 60 now, and having given it lots and lots of thought over the decades, I've come to the rational conclusion that it cannot be true, and that's led me to think a lot about other aspects of Christianity which I am certain are not true. I enjoy having these discussions with Christians because it's a subject close to my heart. You are absolutely free to believe it if you wish, just as millions of other people are free to believe in any other religion, or in my case, no religion.
      Yes, the UK is good thanks. You still didn't tell me what part of the globe you live in, but I can rule out Japan :-)
