Flew this plane a couple of months ago with my wife in the center seats and it was great. Not even a little bit of an issue there. We separated and had window seats on the way home just to try that option. Both were good.
Thank you for sharing your trip here. I hear you about First Class nowadays over possibly the last ten years with US carriers. I came from my former airline, that yes, First, Business and were on our international flights. And we use to fly our two class 777s from Chicago to Honolulu that only had the First and full Economy. Those great flights were always full. But there have been times when a 777 had to be used for the Honolulu flights and people were surprised when those flights fly. Passengers really loved being seated from Economy up to Business on this long-haul flight. Those were the days from my former airline.😊
Great review of Hawaiian’s new Dreamliner! I’ve seen a few reviews where people say the food is pretty good so I think that’s just a breakfast thing. The seat looks great in first/business class. I can’t wait to see what premium economy looks like. I’ll be waiting…❤️✈️
Thanks! Come to think of it, every first class experience I’ve had on Hawaiian airlines over the past 10 years has been a morning flight. This sounds like an excellent excuse to try it again… but in the evening. 😆 FYI, I’ve got a couple other videos to push out before the premium economy review. It’s coming though!
Aloha and mahalo! I love Hawaiian airlines and had such a wonderful time on their a321 neo first class I can’t imagine how awesome this would be! Only domestic carrier where everyone in all classes gets a meal btw!
Im based out of Nashville and flew to Oahu via MSP, 4-11 Sept on Delta One. From MSP-HNL it was a B767-300ER (K). Nothing compared to the Hawaiian Flight you were on. I think Im going to fly to Phoenix and catch that Hawaiian flight to Oahu next time. Thanks for the review
Great video Scott! I loved it and it reminded me a lot of your last “First Class” Biz Class 😂on the Hawaiian Airlines A330-200 but this is way better! Cheers 🥂 my friend I cannot wait to fly Hawaiian someday hopefully on the B787-9 when I head to Hawaii this next summer! 😅 🤙 🌺 LOVED IT DUDE!
Hawaiian spec'd these birds in a two-class config, so there is no P.E. cabin. And personally, I'll probably never have Hawaii on my bucket list when there are so many less-expensive and more-welcoming places just a little bit further across the Pacific. That all said, your reviews are always phenomenal, Scott. You're up there among the absolute best airline reviewers.
Thanks Scott - I love the airline but the red eye from Las Vegas was a nightmare (no service, no nothing) - you can't beat the routes but you pay in other areas - Hope your trip was exceptional! (it was Oahu of course it had to be!)
You’re very welcome! I totally agree - I’d be taking another airline as well if the only thing they offered was a redeye. 😵 but yeah, it was a great trip! Hawaii is always a nice place to visit.
Question I have RE LAX. If you arrive one terminal and need to go to another terminal change airlines etc. do you need to go through security again? Or is there a corridor between all terminal on the security side? Hope makes sense. Thanks
Yes! It’s possible to walk all the way from T8 to T2 behind security. It’s a long walk, but very convenient. Note that there are also shuttle busses connecting T1 with other terminals (perhaps just the international terminal) that don’t require going through security again.
Excellent stuff Scott, difficult to imagine a breakfast looking more bland. A very grey looking sausage. Love the cabin environment but sad to see that the foster puppets didn’t make it. 😞
There are people movers connecting the east part of terminal B to the west part, but it’s still a lot of walking. The good news is they know it’s a long walk, and they have a lot of electric carts ready and available to shuttle anyone who needs a little extra help.
Thanks for sharing. I was watching Sam Chui's video on the Hawaiian 787 Dreamliner a couple months ago. He said that the breakfast menu is on the simple side for business class/first class. I know that the second option on the main menu is for vegan eaters. I think Hawaiian should offer a third option on the main menu in my book.
You’re very welcome! The two choices on this flight seemed fairly light IMHO - the last time I flew from Honolulu to Los Angeles, they served a very hearty bowl of eggs and sausage (with mixed vegetables). That was good.
Awesome video Scott! Question for you as a new viewer, have you ever flown Allegiant Airlines and if you have what were your thoughts? I know there an Ultra Low Cost Carrier but I've always been intrigured by there buisness model!
Thanks! Yes, I’ve flown Allegiant several times. As long as you go into it not expect all that much, it’s actually pretty fun. I’m looking forward to trying their new MAX 8!
Going back a little further in history, HA cancelled its order of A330neo's in favor of Boeing 787's. Apparently, the reason at that time was because of slow sales of A330neo's.
Scott, that breakfast would put a diabetic into a coma. That is so far from a true first class that its laughable, but whatever...it's their plane they can call it whatever they want. If you think about it, it's probably among the top ways to get to the islands now. Maybe United's 777-300er in their Polaris cabin out of SFO would be better, but there's no guava juice on UA. Really enjoyed this review. I dunno, I think I would take UA as I am bat crap crazy in love with the 777.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, the UA Polaris seat is probably better, but I will always choose Hawaiian Airlines for the island vibes. 🤙🏻 And don’t worry - there are certainly worse things to be bat crap crazy about. 😄
I love the "POG" juice "Pas-O-Guava". Dude are you sitting in 6J? Thats the seat I sat in flying HNL to SFO. Everyone should fly on Hawaiian and enjoy the Leihōkū suite. My wife and our granddaughter sat in 6C & 6G, while our adult son was in 6A. On our way back home from our mini vacation we sat in 4A, 4C, 4G and 4J🤙
It was 5J. There was a woman sitting in my seat when I got on the plane - she was supposed to be in 6J, but I told her it was fine (I’d take her seat in row 6). It was all fun and games until I realized there’s no window in row 6. Back to row 5 I went! 😄
I had booked seat 5J, but the woman ahead of me sat there before I got to it (she meant to sit in 6J). I let her have it, but changed my mind real quick once I released that 6J doesn’t have a window.
The main thing I don’t like about the shuttle is that you have to go outside of the secure area to get to it. I highly recommend walking for anyone who is physically able to do so.
@@sanspotterYep same here. I had to walk from the maple leaf lounge in T6 back to Tom Bradley just to check out the centurion in LAX which they nearly didn’t let me into cause I was early. Good thing they had mercy on me
@@sanspotter yeah. I walked it after checking in at TBIT to use the United Polaris lounge before going to the star Alliance lounge before my Asiana business class flight
I am not sure if we are going to get the new plane for the east coast flights, so far nothing available yet. Hopefully before end of 2025. For now we have two more round trips before ending this year on the Airbus A330. Maybe we should try Delta new nonstop from Boston to Honolulu. Now Hawaiian airlines is not the only airline with nonstop to honolulu,hi.
The "free" 🤪 breakfast was pretty lame. I always feel that breakfast is the worst meal on airlines regardless of the class you are travelling in. Perhaps the food would of been more enticing if it was a lunch or dinner flight. I love these suites, the overall colour scheme and ambience is great if one is not comparing it to some of the Asian carriers as you mentioned. Thanks for this review 👍
You’re very welcome! Yeah, I really need to do an afternoon or evening flight in Hawaiian Airlines first class. I’ve only done morning flights in HA first since 2015, so I have no idea what they’re serving for lunch and dinner these days. 😄
I think this flight lacks a lot of Hawaiian vibes if you consider the airline’s name and certainly compared to ANA (which you mention) who makes this destination a holiday feast. Really a missed chance.
Can’t disagree with that. I’ve always been a little worried that I would think less of Hawaiian Airlines after trying the ANA Flying Honu A380 to and from Japan. I plan to scratch that one off my list next year.
Regardless of departure time, one would hope they offer a Mia Tai as an absolutely essential PDB offering in the front cabin to any Hawaii bound flight. And if in first, some kind of a protein at breakfast is expected... [some cheese? an egg?] in addition to the sugary pancakes. OMG! Did we miss the macadamia nuts? The food service seemed underwhelming in what appeared to be an ok seat.
Modern business is a funny concept. It's basically everything you can do to entice the frequent business traveller without calling it first class to placate corporate bean counters. Scott, what you just experience on Hawaiian Airlines is EASILY over-the-top first class service, domestic or otherwise, back in the 70's. Value-wise, there's very little distinction between modern business and first classes for the most part. Sure, the catering on international first class is better, but you'll over-pay quite a bit to enjoy it. IMO, First class is essentially a service for people who have money to burn. You're better off flying premium economy and spending the difference on superior accommodation on the ground.
I agree - to a point. As I’ve been getting older, I appreciate a more comfortable seat on the airplane than I do fancy accommodations on the ground. I didn’t care so much about business / first class when I was younger, but it’s almost becoming a necessity for me now. 👴🏻😆
@@sanspotter , interesting. I'm in my sixties, but I'm not on that page yet. Now don't get me wrong, there is a big difference between cattle car and premium economy.

I’m sure it happens! I don’t always research seats (and service) before booking a flight, and I’d assume that anyone who does this (and isn’t familiar with US Airlines) has been burned this way.

Second run movie collection, Guava juice Hawaiian Sun from a can, Coffee is not Kona 100%, Pancakes with a tbs canned fruit and NO TROPICAL SYRUP, (think of Cocoanut, or Liicoi, or organic fruit choice of preserves, Akaka Falls Farm Mango unsugered jam, How about a sausage that is Portuguese style hawaiian, , put a chunk of fresh pineapple in the Mai Tai?, You can keep the Aloha shirt condiment. 10c each.
