Why should she be ashamed for allowing her child some independence from an early age? You shouldn't have any reason to suspect that someone is in the toilet and intending on harming your child. I live in London, and folks just walk across the road all the time, and expect the traffic to stop for them. They are supposed to use the correct points to cross, or at least make sure nothing is coming before you run across the road. So many folks just risk it and take a chance, thinking they can beat the car, which is much faster. Don't forget, carrying a knife is against the law, so this bloke was a criminal anyway.
