I have to admit that an 85mm f1.2 is not significantly better than an 85mm f2. The difference in depth of field is not decisive whether a photo looks more beautiful or not. That is my opinion. And I find that an 85mm f2 actually delivers the same result as an 85mm 1.2
She is such a pleasure to look at. Great selection of Songs. Well done Xing. I do have the R5 and I mostly use it with the Sigma 105 1.4 and 40 1.4 until Sigma comes out with their Rf lineup, but that 85mm 1.2 from Canon is just a dream.
Xing Liu, thanks for the effort making such video, there are too many similar videos that talk about specs on papers. this is just what i'm looking for on comparison.
I've watched you shoot over a dozen lens, and it doesn't matter what lens it is, you've got an eye for beautiful compositions! Also, while you did a great job comparing equal framing, could you perhaps try shooting the F2 as headshot (or even half body)? I think that would have played to the strength of the macro capability of the lens and see how sharp/bokeh is at close distance.
Beautiful comparisons and obviously you can get better bokeh and subject separation with the f1.2 BUT in all honesty I've done comparisons like this before, the f2 will always be a tad sharper when cropping and zooming in which is my main focus. ALSO if you love BOKEH and creamy backgrounds but can't afford spending more than 2K for the 1.2 lens my humble advice is to buy the f2 for $500 and when you take the photo into Lightroom separated the subject from the background and blur the background to your liking and you modified your photos into looking you took them with an expensive lens ;) thank me later!
this is your most gorgeous model ever. the 85 f2 looks amazing but the 85 1.2 is sublime. still rocking my EF 85 1.4. but I can't wait to buy the RF 1.2 someday (though some other lenses are a priority such as the 15-35, a RF L series 35 mm (when???), and the new RF 100mm. The EOS R is still an amazing camera for its images. Sure, it pales in comparison to my R5, but I look back at my EOS R pics and sometimes I just am in awe that I took the photo.
I’d love to see a comparison of the RF 50 1.2 vs the RF 24-70 2.8 (at 50mm). I’m trying to decide between these two lenses and want to know if the bokeh on the 2.8 is enough for me, or if I should opt for the 1.2 instead.
I've used both, and there's no comparison whatsoever. 50 1.2 is in a league of its own, specially if you're doing anything like portraits. If you can afford 50 1.2, and you like the 50mm focal length range, then 50 1.2 is a gorgeous buy.
Why is the result so much more flat in terms of colour compared to the live preview? Colour profile I’m guessing? How easily would it be for a basic Lightroom editor to make it more colourful like the preview was?
The live preview is the atomos recorder profile. If you want to have more saturation, you can use the portraits profile, which will have more saturation.
I've followed you for along time Xing and appreciate the work you put in. As you've used more lenses and camera bodies than most. Do you think there's one brand that is doing better than the rest? (If you consider prices too of course). I'd just be interested to know which brand you would use of you could only use one. :)
Thank you so much:) each brand has the pro and con, if you give me just fujifilm X-T4 with 56mm F1.2, that would be enough for me to create my style for Fujifilm colors.
@@caliallstaring that's very interesting :). I currently shoot Fujifilm with the XH1 but am thinking of moving to Canon for their animal eye AF. It's a shame that Fuji doesn't have it and that the AF in general isn't as reliable. Thanks again, keep making your videos. They are great
Why do focus shots always use the Eos R6 RF 85mm 1.2? Does the Eos R with the RF 85mm F2 focus poorly and slowly? because I will buy the RF 85mm F2, for the EOS R.
Great video and straight forward information. A couple things: -Did you notice any autofocus differences? I noticed with my 2.0, macro photography is a pain which is why I upgraded to 100L rf. -I notice a lot more fringing from the 2.0. I wonder if that has to do with difference in cameras. - I wish this was a raw test with each photo applied with same preset. It would be nice to see how the colors and dynamic range differ with raw edits -

I thought you'd mixed up an f1. 2 image with the f2 image from the R6, but I watched your other short video and realised that you hadn't.
