It's an old review but it helped me a lot - the 5 was unique in the states in a way it wasn't in Europe, there were no other vehicles in this class here. Handling is shockingly good compared to any other vehicle here with three rows of seating. We got a torquey 2.5 liter petrol that, while down on economy compared to the engines available in the UK, has plenty of grunt and is silky smooth. Unusually (again, for the states) it was offered here with a proper 6sp manual gearbox. It does nothing amazingly well, but seems to be the ultimate compromise vehicle and I can appreciate that. Sliding doors make all the difference when you're dealing with carseats. By a quirk of its heritage, many parts from first-gen MazdaSpeed3's will interchange. MazdaSpeed3 antiroll bars front and rear, Koni FSDs and good tires transformed mine into a canyon carving scalpel that's ridiculously fun to drive for what it is. A shame it has been discontinued.
People need quit hating on this guy. He tells you basically everything you need to know about the car. Just because he doesn't do massive power slides and yells POWERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, doesn't make his reviews bad.
I have a 2010 Mazda 5 Grand Touring and ABSOLUTELY love it...!!! Well...expect for one thing. The acceleration of the 2.3 liter engine which struggles when trying to merge from an on ramp exit onto the highway. I've worked around this issue by setting it in it's "auto manual" mode. And let me tell you folks it makes a HUGE difference in power. Since it holds a gear longer to build up a merging or passing speed when your on the highway. However, around town i just leave it in it's regular mode setting which is just fine. But since most of the complaints i hear about this vehicle are related to it's under powered engine. I thought i'd share my "work around" of that problem area for those that share my frustration on this issue. It's a damn shame that Mazda discontinued this little gem of a minivan. Because in all honesty i really feel they had a good thing going for folks not wanting a larger SUV. I for one firmly believe that most of it's downfall was a lack of any "reasonable" horsepower. Moving from a 2.3 liter to a 2.5 liter engine and only increasing the horsepower from 153 to 157 was rather ridiculous on Mazda's part. Since know one would really see any "significant gains" from a 4hp increase on the newest models. If they had bumped it up to 170hp at the very least and added more torque THAT would have done the trick no doubt about it. The only other issue to me was exterior styling since i really disliked what they did to the front grille. By changing it to a huge plastic smiley face along with the change in rear tail lights to a "standard" horizontal configuration. I happen to LOVE my 2010 models vertical LED tail lights. There not only sleek looking but also make larger vehicles in back of me notice my braking more. So again Mazda shouldn't have changed that feature. And lastly not to be overly nit picky here i miss the side turn signals and painted body side moldings the older Mazda 5 models had up until the 2009 model year. Why they did away with those features on my 2010 model is beyond me. I guess they felt adding traction and stability control on my 2010 model was more important. Since the previous models before 2010 lacked those important safety features. Regardless of all that, i still love my "mini" minivan and with only 30k on my 2010. I expect it to provide me many more years of convenience and reliability.
Ford Ford Ford I am sick of this Ford. Every one compare every car with Ford, trying to prove that Ford is better than any car in the world. I have seen so many "F.....ords" burning in flames and dozens broken down half the way, while no Japanese or German car will leave you in the middle of road. Then what's the point misguiding viewers; is he an idiot or thinks other are???
@make2003 I agree. If you don't want a "gay" smiley face grill on your car, you're out of luck with Mazda. They even stuck it on the MX5. All their cars are over-styled and look messy now.
First review to tell me the Mazda 5 can fit adults in the 3rd row. THANK YOU!
Yes. Can. I'm driving this.

Why does everyone hate it? It lookes great, especially compared to a Scenic (which isnt bad but a bit...odd).
I still drive mazda 5 cr19 1,8 2005 with lpg and I would never take another car. Mazda 5 is absolutely unique.
my aunt has a 2005 mpv and it gets 20-25 its big and not too slow either
dont know why they killed it off it was a nice big mini van
Ford Ford Ford

He talks about the Ford c Max so much because they both share the Focus underpinnings, it is in fact it’s closest rival 🤦🏻♂️
They handle so well. I have an old one with 360000 km on it.1.8 petrol still goes like stink and handles like a sports car......seriously.
I wonder why they got rid of the 2.0 TD version that the Mazda 5 used to have, that was a good engine for that car.
I have a 2014 mazda 5 it is really good because when it went for a MOT it passed straight away
Top Gear gave it 14/20
manual transmission minivan.....how cool is that ? if they offfered manual version in a states i would buy one
Wow, the American version doesn't even have power sliding doors! Seems like our 5, even loaded, didn't get that many features!
@nurttkind ad block plus much?
the old one looked so good !!! they ruined it
I love mazda 5
They ruined the rear end. It looked nice until they put the lights below the window rather than to the sides
Lord Twaddle I prefer the new shape
New shape is much nicer.
@nurttkind i got a 1min one with no skip button :(
@make2003 I agree. If you don't want a "gay" smiley face grill on your car, you're out of luck with Mazda. They even stuck it on the MX5. All their cars are over-styled and look messy now.
@nurttkind no commecial played when i loaded the vid haha
I suspect those aren't real leather seats
@timppa600 Everyone has an opinion about the looks. I like the new style, the old style looks like some sort of a bug's eyes LOL.
Peter Kim I prefer the new one
We can only get the 2.5 gas engine here in the colonies.
lol he is driving on the road
wrong side of street and stArring wheel is on the wrong side too:):)") :-) :-)
They mirrored video for copy right reasons ;)
20seconds is too long for a commercial
all mazda cars look the same from the front
expect TR and B-series....
that new facelift or model looks ugly from the back. the tail lights were better on the old one
I have never driven a deeeeeeezooo
