      Totally agreed! So frustrated that in U.S. we can’t find any : small minivan with awd & hybrid! We need a smaller minivan that are more practical & economical!

    • @damilolaakanni

      I doubt it will sell well. It's a minivan, which a lot of people don't want because crossovers, but it's smaller than the current competition, which will be a deal breaker for most minivan buyers. But the few people who will buy this will enjoy it.

    Great review! I currently own my second Mazda 5 (a silver refreshed version that came out in 2012, which replaced the original 2006 version that I had previously). Totally agree-these are so much fun to drive! My wife and I are now planning to move back to Sweden in the Spring (with our two daughters, ages 6 and 3), and I’m still convinced this is the best car for us, so I’m pleased to see that most of the used Mazda 5 models that I’m seeing for sale there all have manual transmissions! 😃

  • @thirdpedalnirvana
    @thirdpedalnirvana 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    The Mazda 5 is an absolute hoot. I think it's more fun than the same era 3, although that's probably just because it has the big engine and drives exactly the same while being a minivan. My wife wants a Mazda 5 manual as soon as we start a family. We will fly across the country to get one if that's what it takes.

    2015 sport trim owner here. It is the most practical vehicle with small footprint (Honda fit / KIA soul are great but a bit too small on the highway). I replaced the stock radio with a $70 Android unit and now I have offline navi, rear camera, front and rear dashcams. It is fairly simple and being the later year model of its generation most of the minor bugs were already addressed.

    My parents got a brand new Mazda 5 in 2014 because we needed three rows of seats but didn't want the expense of a full bonified minivan, but wanted something brand new. They custom ordered the stick shift model because they're what I call "stickshift puritans." It's a very niche car which is why it didn't sell well and discontinued in 2015, but we've been thrilled with it. From living in a small town for most of it's lifespan, it's racked up 195k miles and it's still going strong. The only major service it had was a clutch replacement at 180k, which is likely due to both me and my older sister learning to drive stick on it, so you can imagine that did a number on it. It may not be the most powerful thing in the world but it's still fun to drive.

    This is exactly what I'm thinking. I'm in the market for a used good size hatchback, wagon, or compact suv. I honestly checked out a Mazda5 before and I couldn't get over the feeling of the seats and tiny third row but now with the third row just down flat. This would make a good 4 passenger hatchback or wagon even though it's classified as a minivan.

    I love your delighted laugh! This is the exact M5 that I've had for a year. I really love it too. I didn't know how cool it was till my Prius died and I wanted something a little bigger. Don't need the third row for kids so I folded them down and have a weather tech mat - so lots of great room. If you have pets/dogs or dog crates I think you'd be happy with the room. If anyone is interested - I read that Mazda sold the M5 to I think it was Nissan and they are making it under another name, sorry don't know what they call it. Anyway thanks for the review.

    We just bought one. It handles well and has space for your things. While this is called a minivan it's more like a Honda CRV that's lower to the ground with sliding doors. It's a lot smaller than typical minivan's. That makes it not feel like you're driving a minivan.
    I have a 6' 4" son and it's a tight fit for him in the front seats. Even with the seats all the way back. Yet the middle seat give him much better leg room.
    The family loves it.

    @Shooting Cars sadly I also live in the UK, as I would love to show you what this car can do with a manual gearbox.
    I own a 2014 Mazda 5, 2 litre Sport, 6 speed manual.
    It's a fantastic family car, I have four boys, so a roof top box is a must for long distance travel. Although it's classed as a 7 seater, I often refer to it as a 6.25 seater, with the narrow middle seat on the second row.
    It handles great, especially on roundabouts and its capabilities are rather surprising 😂
