Watching this today is inspiring… to think that following week Dylan Moore demanded the group bring their mouth guards to training. Mitchell has always been aware and honest. What a ride
Yeh as an Eagles fan… we had very high regard for Sam Mitchell (he played one year for us… and then one year as assistant coach). He had a reputation as being incredible with the boys… was great at training, gave very useful advice. He won 4 flags as a Hawk, played one year for us in 2017 and helped us as assistant in our 2018 premiership (in the only year he was on our staff after playing 😂). After this he left to the Hawks coaching staff So Sam Mitchell is the right man for the job… his win percentage is a little low because Hawks don’t have the numbers to dominate after all their greats retired after the dynasty.
Their dynasty ended in 2015, and they haven’t played finals since 2018. Can’t be using “their players retired” as an excuse, it’s 2024 and they are 0-5 😂
@@Comatosedpeanut bro… I’m just speaking from my teams point of view. When Sammy left the coasters staff everyone considered it a huge loss, everyone spoke about how valuable his advice was when he was there. I think when you look at Mitchell’s low win percentage, it’s not really representative of his coaching ability… so yeh… many people may disagree but it will take a bit of time with Hawks (I’m in the same boat with my team also). Hawthorns list is very thin at the moment with few stars so Sam hasn’t got much to work with
@@timjd15I stand corrected, I forgot they went out in straight sets in 2018 😂 Look at what collingwoods done since 2018, they lost that grand final and traded out multiple players on big coin, a lot of them were all Australians and best and fairest winners. They won a flag last season. So my point still stands.
Hutchinson and Lloyd look like a fools. Their arrogance in thinking hawks have no good youth shows they no nothing about football and simply dislike the Hawks.
The reality is when you are devoid of talent to begin with, you cant lose your spine to injuries. Will Day's injury has hurt our midfield significantly. After round 7 we get Day, Jiath, Lewis and Wingard back. We will be competitive then. Im a mad hawks supporter and bet against us every week so far.
Hawks stuffed up after 2016 finals tried patching up with Vickety, then got Wingard, O Meara, Mitchell, Patton and Scully. They made bad decisions. Unfortunately Clarko left Mitchell with a mess.

Two weeks ago the same talking heads were saying 'we proved we can compete with the best in bursts'. A week is a long time in footy buy two weeks is like a millennium! It might just be me but we seem terribly short in hight, it's as if theres 12 forward pockets on the ground at all times. Absolute squib, loves prancing around the 50 thinking he's Wayne Carey, which he's faaaaaar from, he's just soft asf.
Chol's work at getting to key contests is absolutely atrocious, especially when you consider he's the only key tall fwd in the 22 at the moment. I can see why Hardwick got rid of him twice, incredibly frustrating player. Does some great looking stuff but does the fundamentals very poorly.
@@jsequine927 couldn’t agree more. I also feel Lewis’s game will suffer unless chol doesn’t move further up the ground and play maybe a traditional centre half forward.
This is why it is such a catastrophe when you overrate your list and start trading out lots of draft picks. It takes years and years to recover and there is no short cut unless you get really lucky.
These comments are way to premature. Hawthorn has 7-10 of its starting 22 out. Yes, at least 4-6 of those are average players, but CJ, Day, Wingard, Wiz, Blanck and DGB bring run, carry and structure. Breust and Gunston bring some maturity as well. I think the second half of the year will be very different for the Hawks. They are two years into a deep rebuild and lack depth and cannot handle injuries. They have also played Collingwood, Geelong, Melbourne - all potential top 4 teams. Gold Coast and Essendon are no slouches either. They would have beaten Collingwood if the game went for another minute, and they were not far off with Essendon. Bottom line - they are one of the most successful clubs of this era, and held on for glory too long and didn't rebuild early enough. They are now paying the price, but I think most people would agree they are not at the level of NM or WC. And with two more drafts and some luck with injuries, they can be a very dangerous team. If they are at full strength and were having losses like this then fair enough, but I think we are asking a lot of a young team just five games into a season with a very hard draw. Am I crazy for thinking this? Also, carn the Blues!
I should add, I actually am a bit worried when we play the Hawks. If you watch their games, they are incredibly dangerous when they get a run on. They have flair, creativity and dare and are a very competitive, young group who are galvanized. I think they are closer to a flag then most of the other teams in the bottom eight maybe bar Essendon and the Suns and would not be surprised if they turned it around within 24 months and became a genuine threat.
I feel too much credit is being taken away from Gold Coast here, too much on why hawks lost and not on why Gold Coast won. Two teams at different parts of their own processes.
