Congrats on your first Mitch slap! This is what we call the astonishment that comes when reactors ( or other listeners) first hear Mitch Grassi's clear high vocals. He's naturally high pitched...a counter tenor. I hope you do more of this group.
After hearing this hundreds of times - I still get tears in my eyes watching/hearing this. Their upgrade of The Prayer I hope will be their 4th Grammy. It is beautiful. You will be blown away.
I said it on the last pentatonix video, they are literally the ONLY Christmas music I actually like. I have personal issues with the season but they take and give me goosebumps almost everytime
@@susanstein6604 ok didn’t know the songwriter was Jewish but ultimately my point still stands that pentatonix is the only Christmas music I can stand, AND they’re hallelujah song is really good. Two separate thoughts. Also I kinda think their version is a Christmas song, they put it on their Christmas album, they have the little caroling of the bells line.
You need to go to their site and listen to their portfolio. Yes the do a ton of Christmas songs but they also do covers of other groups (cough...Daft Punk Grammy...cough). They also are doing original works. You cheapen them by claiming they only do Christmas songs.
@@elizabethrobbins8580 when did I claim that they only did Christmas songs. I hate the holiday radio because every station plays old Christmas music you hear every year on repeat or Mariah Carey. Pentatonix is different Christmas music, but the other songs are great too

To see just how versatile they are, check out their 'Daft Punk' medley. After all this time, I still find it hard to believe that EVERY sound that you hear is made with their 'voices' .. no musical instruments whatsoever .. no auto-tune etc.
The bell tones are kinda a Pentatonix signature. They do it on a lot of their songs. If you're listening but not watching and you're not obsessive like us pentaholics, the bell tones give it away that it's PTX. Glad you got back to a PTX song 💜
You should check out their covers God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Dance of The Sugar Plum Fairy (that won them a Grammy), and O Come all Ye Faithful. They are wonderful covers!!!!
That flip of Carol of the Bells , was an homage to the plucking and chord structure of the Jeff Buckley version....from Shrek. It is beautiful for sure. Thanks!
What do you mean when you say “they went carol of the bells?” I could look it up put what fun would that be lol! Great reaction! Great choice! You can’t go wrong with Pentatonix
Is that really the first time you've been Mitch slapped?! Wow! A capella groups use that arpeggio technique a lot since different members will cover different parts of the chord. Another solid reaction!
You have to remember they have to do the musical instruments with their voices. So they have to sing the music. So the do wap they did needed to carry on the musical instruments that would have been there. But Mitch is amazing. Tho they all are amazing.
First time on your channel - thank you for your honest reaction - I enjoyed it - your facial expressions also tell when it's hitting and when it's not. I've subbed for more PTX and will check the other artist on your channel. For Holiday music I would recommend Oh Come All Ye Faithful-fun arrangement - Mary Did You Know - all 5 members sing a verse and The First Noel -my favorite since I was a kid. Thanks again.
I have subscribed just to see more Pentatonix reactions from you. They are the elite of A Cappella. You won't find any other group that upgrades songs like Pentatonix.
The amazing thing is that they will not do any video covers, if they can't do it exactly the same on stage at a live concert. Here's the link of their live performance and you will see what I mean. th-cam.com/video/haFHrfmfHbc/w-d-xo.html
Aside from the version in the first Shrek movie sung by John Cale, this version by Pentatonix gets me feeling a certain kind of way. It's such a beautifully done rendition and it's definitely one of my favorites.
I get how that could feel a little "Carol of the Bells"-ish to you. They arpeggiated the chord and that is somewhat the vibe of "Carol of the Bells". However, they have perfected the art of arpeggiation of chords (one vocalist per note at any speed) making it one of their identifying and signature sounds. Also when you listen to their version of "Carol of the Bells" your opinion will change.
That "Carol of the Bells bit" you didn't like is their way of putting background music into their songs. In case you didn't notice, they are an acapella group. Even the percussion is done by Kevin Olusola, their beat-boxer. Avi Kaplan (the bearded guy in the knot cap) is a classically trained basso-profundo who occasionally assists with vocal percussion. His bass tones are what you feel echoing through your bones. When he is singing, the bass is covered by Scott Hoying (the blond guy) who normally sings in the baritone range. Kirstin Maldando is the soprano/mezzo soprano who can belt out those amazing tones without her voice becoming strained or screechy. The angelic voice that gave you your first "Mitch-slap" belongs to Mitch Grassi. He is listed as a contra (or counter) tenor, but actually has an astounding 6 octave range (actually 6+1)! I more recent videos Avi is replaced by Matt Salee after Avi left the group (amicably) for personal reasons. Pentatonix is definitely a rabbit hole worth falling down. One to watch to see their skills showcased is Bohemian Rhapsody. They way they cover this classic, instrument heavy, rock song without any instruments is nothing short of incredible.
The best Christmas music, Imo, comes from the acapella contingent Mary Did You Know it's another great one from PTX, from Home Free there are so many cute ones, but I prefer their version of Do You Hear What I Hear, & from Voice Play, their new one Christmas Don't Be Late is adorable. Bonus shipping Come Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen by Geoff Castellucci is a thing of beauty. Hugs to you and your family from Newfoundland.
That part you mention is designed to be more like picking a guitar, but I can definitely see where it might not land exactly right for everyone. But I would definitely suggest continuing to see what they've done. They have done a lot of great work in pushing the art of a capella forward, and have 3 Grammys and now a 4th nomination for their efforts.
I don’t tend to watch music reactions as much as I use to but you became one of my favorite for sure. I just went through and watched all your Bo Burnham videos and I am deeply impressed and loved them. You’re amazing and I believe your video quality is great!
I remember playing the tuba for this song in highschool. It's been pretty much my favourite song ever since Rufus Wainwright is still my fave cover of it though
