Every species has more intelligent ones. Some dogs are absolute goobers and some can talk to you by pressing buttons or help with choking. Some apes can be taught sign language some can’t. Same with all animals land and sea. Exceptions are never a legitimate argument when talking broadly. Some species naturally have a higher intelligence then others.

My uncle used to talk about his genius pet gold fish. He built a series of plexiglass water tunnels through out his house. They went through the living room, kitchen, dining room, family room, his office and his bedroom. The tunnels were about a foot wide and about 18 inches deep with air in the upper six inches throughout except a handful of spots where it was like a doorway. First time I saw it I thought it was amazing. His gold fish would follow him around the house watching whatever he was doing and not just for food. He did an experiment where he only fed them in one tank in the family room but when they had their fill they would swim around and find him then hang out with him in whatever room he was in. If there was a new person in the house they would follow the new person around. The only time they didn't do that was at feeding time. At feeding time they always swam to the family room and waited there. This tells me that fish are curious, are not motivated only by food and may actually like some people enough to simply watch them. Also, when he changed the water weekly, a major production given the complexity of the water environment, they would swim right into his hands and he would then transfer them into the portable holding tank. They seemed to like being wheeled into the family room when my cousins were watching TV. Then when it was time my uncle would put them back in their freshly cleaned tank and they would then just watch TV with my cousins. He told us he had taught them a number of tricks over the years but I never got to see that. I think he said he had one gold fish for almost twenty five years. When I saw the set up he had I think 7 gold fish and not the little baby ones either. These were around 4-8 inches long.

Many humans continue to insist that "animals are dumb" _to justify human speciesism towards other species._
Humans torture, execute, extirpate, and exterminate with impunity.
Having to admit other species Aldo possess many of the same abilities we possess, even in graduations on a continuum, takes away the "justifications" we contrive to terrorize them at will.
Acknowledging their similarities with us is an equalizing force, and many still want to profit on the backs of other species, or torture and execute them at will to suit their "needs," of which all legitimate needs could be supplied easily without forcing other animals to suffer.
They want to leep this unbalanced power of others. That's why.

My daughter's betta fish longs to follow us around the house. He looks so happy when we talk to him and wave at him, and he looks like he's ready to follow us around like a dog if he could.
He's also such a good boy with water changes. He knows to get into the container where point so that I can put him in the temporary salt-bath tank while I replace his tank water, and he watches the whole process. He has gotten very good at the process, which I found to be really impressive. He seems really smart.
Fish intelligence needs another look, just in the way people are finally also looking to birds. So it makes me really happy to see scientists study animal intelligence in places humans historically overlooked!

@@Cassxowary Did you know its been proven that plants scream in electrical activity before they get themselves or leaves cut? and only if a person has the intention to cut them. Plants are proven to be more aware than we think. Kind of like jelly fish perhaps but they still feel. Think about that next time you have "guilt free" salad, lol. I'm not vegan and I have no malice toward anyone for eating fruits or vegetables, but my point is that even plants are killed for us to eat. So the philosophical question arises-- at what point do we draw the line when all things we eat aside from maybe minerals; are killed for us to eat and most feeling pain or destruction in varying forms and ways. This is why I think its funny for people to be vegan. I understand it, but I don't really agree. I agree in not consuming more animal meat than necessary to be healthy though, and am very against any killing of intelligent animals or endangered. For me I guess i draw the line at intelligence. So I guess if I ever am starving I can eat myself because I probably am pretty low on the list! lol.

The minute he saw me walk past to the kitchen he would start spitting the small stones at the glass for his meal😹😹he only lived for 6 years when he got sick but he loved getting my attention, it was not all about food, some times when I was cleaning the glass he would wriggle into my hand that was in the tank to clean the glass and he would kiss the palm of my hand, he loved the top of his head rubbed. I end up putting small toys that he could pick up and play with.

I kept goldfish for over twenty years. My dad won one at a fair 9thank the Goddess that was banned!), then on the way home we met a friend of his from work who'd won one for her son but she REALLY didn't want them, so I ended up with two! I think I was about ten at the time. That was the beginning of my love of cold water fish! I ended up with three large tanks with all kinds of fish, but mostly goldfish and catfish and I can tell you that 3 second memory bollox has always bothered me, because my fish were bloody Einstein[s] in water! I would putter around my bedroom look over where he was and Pico would be watching me. Oh I loved that fish. I would talk to him through his bowl and he’d be right there never moving. He knew he would get a head rub and fin rub and he would swim to the top of his bowl for it. He knew his feeding times. I was traumatized when Pico passed away and never got another fish. But I have to say I loved all the fish I had. I get very attached to the pets I had. Even got attached as a kid to my brother’s lizard. I also had turtles as a kid. Two red sliders. Twinkletoes would follow me if I put him down. Reward or no reward. His buddy King was a grumpy turtle. But still loved him.

These animals are intelligent, the hard part comes from if we want to challenge ourselves and try to connect with them.

Amazing! A mini car made for a fish. Who knew it was possible? Your experiment enlightened the world of the intelligence of animals.

Lol had a white goldfish named Kahuna- I would tie a string on a pellet and he would hold on and let me "fish" him completely out if the tank. He would get a hand feeding in reward and a good rub with clean hands. RIP Kahuna

Now this is an animal experiment that I do support - humane, and it teaches us that other life forms have intelligence too. Fish also feel pain as we would, if someone hooked our mouth and dragged us to suffocation. 🐟🐠❤
