An interesting fact, that I think people usually don’t realize, is the number of famous bands in which the bassist is the “main” guy or one of the “main” guys in the group: McCartney (Beatles), Bruce (Cream), Sting (Police), Wilson (Beach Boys), Waters (Pink Floyd), Simons (Kiss), Lee (Rusn), Lane (Small Faces), Fraser (Free) !
So loose, yet so tight. They were so confident and knew they were good. Paul Rodgers at the centre with his masterful Otis redding-like vocals. The thing I liked most about Free was that, while many of their contemporaries (Zep, Purple, Sabbath, etc) cranked the volume up to 11, Free just laid back; even their heavier songs grooved more than they rocked. By the way...what guitar pedals/amp/guitar settings
did Paul Kossoff use here? help us to get that tone...please Thanks!
Rodgers was unquestionably one of the greatest rock singers - someone line Robert Plant could surely only look on and envy. Kossoff a great guitarist, no question. And the true beating heart of this wonderful but still underrated band was Andy Fraser. Truly spectacular palying. Love this song.
Greatest rock and roll band EVER
Greatest Rock band.
Kids, thats what guitars used to sound like, you know, like guitars!😀
Fabulous Fabulous!!!!
Voice & bloody lush too! I was laughing before thinking about when I was around 17 & as mad on Free as I am Today but wanting to emulate my hero's I tried in every clothes shop in Christendom to get some pants like Paul Rogers wears in this vid
I had an identical top like his but not the strides so I bought off white canvass fabric, buttons & being an art student at the time found adapting a trouser
pattern no probs
I was the total envy of all my mates when I strutted into our youth club in my exact copy of Paul's strides & im female ! But I loved those guys so much, I lived breathed & survived on Free.
I don't have the pants anymore shame cos they were the biz but I reckon id still get into a similar pair. Might get my sewing machine out again!!!
Man Paul kossoffs tone in that solo is great
Mesmerizing .masterful. archetypical quartet. Love the rural imagery of " riding on a pony in the middle of the night". The kid from the mountain . Living "a hundred miles from town".
yo- Holy shit - this is the coolest thing ever....anyone who disagree's is wrong.
Such a great/talented band ..& all of them so gorgeous, as well. So sad abt Paul Kossoff & Andy Fraser (RIP)...but glad the others R still performing. Luv these guys 🙂🙂☮☮✌✌💕💕
Una maravilla,unicos
Cuatro jóvenes genios.
"Ride On A Pony"
Baby won't you tell me
What you're tryin' to do
You don't mean to say
That our love is through
Because I love you
Yes I do
And I'm gonna see it through
Sometimes when I am lonely
I think about your face
So I get on my pony
And I ride over your place
Because I love you
Yes I do
And I'm gonna see it through
I'm gonna take you baby
Home with me.
I'm gonna love you baby
just wait and see
Because I am riding on a pony
In the middle of the night
I'm gonna be there in the morning
And I hope that it's all right
Well I live on the mountain
A hundred miles from town
A long way to go
But soon I'm gonna be around
Because I love you
Yes I do baby
And I've got to see it through
I`m gonna steal you baby, far away
I got to love you woman, no matter what you say
Because I am riding on a pony
In the middle of the night
I'm gonna be there in the morning
And I hope that it's all right.
I am riding on a pony
In the middle of the night
I'm gonna be there in the morning
And I hope that it's all right, baby.
I am riding on a pony
In the middle of the night
I''ll be there in the morning
And I hope that it's all right, all right
I do
The Best FREE
True music. No gimmicks or tricks. The reason I picked up a guitar. That's fun! It truly sets you free in this troubled world. Just play. Oh, one other thing. Cannot top Paul's blues vocals with his perfect timbre for raw rock. Yeah baby, yeah!
Yes and what a band 🙏
