Thank you. This is interesting and encouraging. It adds weight to other information that I've come across suggesting that eye exercises can be beneficial to the point of being able to set aside our spectacles. Best wishes from New Zealand.

Steve came-up with this when I called him the wrong name on my last visit to USCCA. ;) It wasn't my eyes... really Kev..err.. Steve. I was just talking about the magazine with my friend as we walked in. At 55... yes, this is a good exercise. P.S. New sights won't fix the eye problem unless you're going to MOS pistols. Good job Beth!

Wow Beth, this is going to be great. Even my eye Dr couldn't come up with any good solutions. I am tired of looking like I'm looking through fog at the end of my sites. By the way Beth, you are doing a great job! You seem to be very comfortable speaking now and are very assertive. You even make Steve look good. Lol! Now just to do the same to Kevin.

Haha...good one Louis! We'll make sure Beth keeps working on Kevin! ;-)
We're glad the video provided some good information for you, Louis!

good gouge, these exercises work, I have been doing the far/near for a long time now and it has helped me retain speed in changing distances ...

Great eye exercises that will work for even more than shooting. That said....I got a red dot! It's like a crutch for your eyes LOL.

The right red dot can make all the difference in the world. Now even I can hit the target.

Should the specs be on while doing these exercises?

    • @andrewbennett7794

I dont think so, its not as much to be able to accurately identify the markers. But allow your eyes to flex and stretch the muscles responsible for focus. Spec’s reduce the need to look hard so you wont stress it as much.
      - however if you’re doing so to train shooting; doing rounds on and off with glasses would help for you to identify different planes at different distances.

I remember reading somewhere that back during WW2 pilots were taught some kind of eye exercise to improve there vision. I wonder if these were the excercise's?

I will have to do some research on that, Two Bears Bushcraft! That would be very interesting to find out!

I can ask the wife of one who's still alive. The odds are slim she'll know but it's amazing how much she was told and remembers. I doubt he would have considered that classified and might have shared it.

Great video and instructions - but there is one question. I wear progressive trifocals so what is the best way to do these exercises? Glasses on or off? Tilting my head constantly as I move my thumb so I see thru the correct lens? Etc. Guess that was actually more than one question :)

    • @USCCAOfficial
      @USCCAOfficial  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question, Lynn!
This would all depend on the situation. You could be in either situation when you have to defend yourself. I would suggest training with your glasses on and with them off.

Some of my presbyopic patients have had success with a modified mono vision Rx. Basically its one eye (non dominate) set for intermediate vision and the other eye (dominant) set for distance. The idea is seeing the front sight clear with the non dominant eye and seeing the target clear with the dominant eye. As an additional benefit of this type of mono vision is it can aid in keeping both eyes open while shooting. Many of us struggle with keeping both eyes open while shooting. It all sounds good but some patients will not tolerate mono vision. See your doctor for sample contacts to try it for yourself. On a personal note I have progressed through the competitive shooting stages and I am now a firm believer the reflex red dot sights. I find that i don't look at the sights anymore. I focus on the target and "paint the target" with the red dot and fire. My accuracy and speed have got through the roof. JMO YMMV

@@dlvmark For sport shooting, there are a few sound strategies that optometrists can help with to great effect. However, people who carry for defensive or professional reasons need to realize that glasses and contacts have their practical limitations. So do reflex sights, laser sights, etc. You have to pick the most reliable solution that works, because violence waits for no man. For soldiers and cops who need corrective lenses, full contact ballistic sports glasses are the ONLY reasonable solution and a back-up pair should be part of their EDC gear. For civilians with presbyopia, a laser sight on the EDC pistol may do the trick. For sport shooting, it is darned hard to beat a reflex sight. But I would never put one on a duty pistol or EDC pistol, because they render the weapon useless when the sight fails. Same reason I keep optics on QD mounts on a tactical rifle with a quality set of iron sights.
