      Thank you. I had driven by the highway sign numerous times and never stopped. I am glad I made the stop on this trip. It was definitely worth the time spent at the location. The area is rich in mining history. Thank you for watching our video and leaving a comment. We truly appreciate it. Please consider subscribing to our channel if you have not done so already. you should also know, this incident and the outrage it created, served as the impetus forthe creation of many of our modern labor laws, which were passed not long after. All sorts of things we take for granted, overtime pay and a ton of other things that are more just fair than they are socialist, passed because of these people their brave stand, and the lives lost here. It's not just a part of history in terms of it's own story, but its a pivotal moment in larger american history in many ways. Far more than I have the time to get into here. People should know.

    In retaliation for the massacre, miners attacked antiunion town officials, strikebreakers, and the mines, taking control of an area about 50 miles long and 5 miles wide. As many as 50 people died during the reaction to the Ludlow Massacre. Fearing a further escalation of violence, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson sent in federal troops to restore order. Unlike the National Guard, the federal troops were impartial and kept strikebreakers out of the coal mines. The strike ended on December 10, 1914. While the workers got little in the way of tangible benefits from their strike, the UMWA gained 4,000 new members.

      The 10 days following Ludlow were some of the worst days of violence of the Colorado Coalfield war. The positive outcome from the investigation that followed was the 1915 report from the House committee on Mines and Mining. That report was instrumental in promoting child labor laws and the eight hour work day. Thank you for the thoughtful comment and for watching our video. All the best... RDA

    'Ludlow' was the last name of the family in the 1994 movie 'Legends of the Fall'. I can't help but wonder if the writer took the name from this.

      @@MaizeANDBlue1957 That I do not know. I usually try to include where the names originate, but I could not find the origin of the namesake for Ludlow. Didn't mother jones go to colorado before this and was there?

    • @RockDoctorAdventures
      @RockDoctorAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Mary Harris "Mother" Jones did indeed go to Colorado and helped organize the 1913-1914 strike. From information I found, she was arrested and served prison time . Prior to the Ludlow Massacre she was escorted from the state so I do not believe she was at Ludlow at the time of the events on April 20, 1914. Thank you for the comment and for watching our video. Never heard this story. As today as then the worker is still getting the shaft. RIP brave hard working citizens… 1 more fellow citizen thinking about you now.
    I just can’t believe in that day, you machine gunned down your own citizens in our own country, what the hell is wrong with you?? Any reparations for these folks?

      The Colorado Coalfield war, of which the Ludlow massacre was a deadly component, was a very complex issue with lasting impacts to United States labor laws. My intent was to simply draw attention to this little known stop along the I-25 corridor and point out it's incredible significance. Thank you for leaving the comment and watching our video. Both are truly appreciated. All the best... Safe travels... RDA

      Really, Randy? What has made you such a sad person to leave a comment like this? I'm asking for myself, because I don't want to end up like you. Imagine watching a video that someone took the time to work hard on for free, and then leaving a comment calling it generic. I honestly can't comprehend it. Do you notice that what we see is a sad little man leaving a sad comment? Obviously you don't. You look really cool leaning against that fountain.

      @learnwithlogan First off, this guy doesn't do it for free. 2nd, if he's going to do this, why wouldn't he put some more effort in to it? 3rd, who gives a fck what you or even i comment about? Just quit crying to me about someone else's incompetency.

      This channel is not monetized. I have not received a cent from any of my videos. The intent was never to cover the entire Colorado Coalfield war, but merely summarize what transpired at Ludlow on April 20th, 1914.
