It is obvious from the tone of your comment you have a vested interest in the events at Ludlow and the Colorado Coalfield War. I purposefully included in the video the pictures of the machine gun on water tank hill as well as the mounted machine gun on the "death special". This was a horrific use of weaponry on ANY population. I showed the cellar in the video as well as the "death pit" where the women and children died. Also included was the statement " Twenty-two National Guardsmen, including 10 officers, were court-martialed". The horrific events at Ludlow changed the Labor laws in the United States forever leading to improved child labor protections as well as the eight hour work day. It is important to NEVER forget what transpired at Ludlow and the sacrifices made that continue to shape the world we live in.

Mary Harris "Mother" Jones did indeed go to Colorado and helped organize the 1913-1914 strike. From information I found, she was arrested and served prison time . Prior to the Ludlow Massacre she was escorted from the state so I do not believe she was at Ludlow at the time of the events on April 20, 1914. Thank you for the comment and for watching our video. The 10 days following Ludlow were some of the worst days of violence of the Colorado Coalfield war. The positive outcome from the investigation that followed was the 1915 report from the House committee on Mines and Mining. The Colorado Coalfield war, of which the Ludlow massacre was a deadly component, was a very complex issue with lasting impacts to United States labor laws. My intent was to simply draw attention to this little known stop along the I-25 corridor and point out it's incredible significance. Thank you for leaving the comment and watching our video. Imagine watching a video that someone took the time to work hard on for free, and then leaving a comment calling it generic. I honestly can't comprehend it. Do you notice that what we see is a sad little man leaving a sad comment? Obviously you don't. You look really cool leaning against that fountain.

This channel is not monetized. I have not received a cent from any of my videos. The intent was never to cover the entire Colorado Coalfield war, but merely summarize what transpired at Ludlow on April 20th, 1914.

Early coal mining with company towns and company stores definitely favored the coal companies. There truly was something to the song that stated "You owe your soul to the company store". From September 1913 to April 1914, there were plenty of clashes between the two factions, however, there was a total collapse of civility on April 20. In the video I included "408 strikers were arrested, 332 of whom were indicted for murder. Twenty-two National Guardsmen, including 10 officers, were court-martialed". This was the bulk of the prosecutions after the massacre. The positive slant to this entire negative event was the changing of labor laws as a direct result of the Ludlow massacre and the much larger Colorado Coalfield war. you should also know, this incident and the outrage it created, served as the impetus forthe creation of many of our modern labor laws, which were passed not long after. All sorts of things we take for granted, overtime pay and a ton of other things that are more just fair than they are socialist, passed because of these people their brave stand, and the lives lost here. It's not just a part of history in terms of it's own story, but its a pivotal moment in larger american history in many ways. Far more than I have the time to get into here. People should know.

Agreed. The tragic events at Ludlow had and continue to have a lasting impact. It was a very significant event in history that should NEVER be forgotten.

Thank you. It really brightens my day you enjoy our adventures. It makes it all worthwhile for me. I agree, the fossil insects, fish, flowers and pollen are diverse and plentiful at Florissant. It seems the early collectors were mainly after the petrified wood and left a treasure trove of other fossils behind, lucky for us. I only showed a small amount of what is on display in the visitors center. It is well worth a visit if you are ever in the area. Until next time...RD

Hoodoos are a very typical badland type of formation. Bryce Canyon is a great example as well as Wahweep Hoodoos and Goblin Valley in Utah. They make for very interesting photography. All the best... RD

Thank you. I agree about Lester. It is even a sadder story when you know his parents are buried together about 40 miles south in Fort Collins, Colorado. Poor Lester is all by himself at the Sherman cemetery. RD

@RockDoctorAdventures to clarify, he WAS stationed there. He just moved to vegas to be a recruiter where our parents are. Unfortunately, most of his time with that unit was spent in korea anyways so he only spent a few months there in Co Springs itself. It is stunning though.

@@nuggdimmadome2192 Vegas is quite the change from The Springs climate wise, but, it sounds like you are very familiar with the area if your parents live there. Trading mountains and plains for heat and a mountain, both have their fascinating histories.

Very similar to the first time I visited the location. There was nothing there except for the disk in the ground marking the four corner spot. There was also no entry fee for viewing the site. They charge to enter now. By the way, Tec Nos Pos really hasn't changed much since the last time you were there in the 70's. The monument... Yes...Tec Nos Pos... Not so much. They seem to be dancing all around but just can't break through the huge dome of heat over the Mojave Desert. It might be a dry year for the Colorado River basin south of Lake Mead.

@@genehart261 Chloride is a wonderful community with very friendly townfolk. It is well worth the trip. My grandfather almost moved to Overton in the 1960's. He loved to go fishing in the area. Great question. The terms CE and BCE stand for Common Era and Before Common Era. They have been in use since the 17th century and are used interchangeably with BC and AD. No preference for either as I can tell. Some scholarly writings use the BC/AD abbv. while others use the CE/BCE. Durango and Silverton are spectacular locations. There is a lot of history surrounding both of those place. Ouray and Cortez are close by as are a number of National Parks and Monuments. Long weekend trips might be in your future 😁.
