Ah, yes. The 30k, turn 0, plain Damage.
This is the threshold, the Gate of Hell themselves.
"Per me si va nella città dolente. Per me si va nell'etterno dolore.
Per me si va tra la perduta gente."
Faa's boss fight (Lucilius in English) is what I consider to this day the one with the most final boss vibes in all of GBF. They add stories, they add fights, all supposedly more difficult than him, yet none of it was ever able to capture the "This is the end of the journey" vibe that he gives.
It all starts with him testing you, raining death on your team, with 30k unavoidable damage before you have the chance to do anything. "I have no time to waste on the likes of you." And Funny thing is: if you brought Belial, his loyal subject, you WILL die to this move.
And yet, if you survive. Only then Faa starts giving you attention. All of his arsenal is rifle with satanic references, the bad ones at that. He despises God and wishes to destroy everything to spite Them. "Nothing has any meaning, beside what I give to it. I will not be a pawn."
He goes as far to cast aside his own physical body, ascending and covering himself in blue flames: now the only thing recognazible about him are his twelve black wings, all of them stolen from way more worthy angels than he could ever hope to be.
And yet, for all the divine power he stole and misused... He too was felled, yet not killed. For all his prowess, a man cannot kill a god.
Zero was truly an absolute masterpiece. It is to this day. So it is this raid. It's difficult, it's painful. But the end of this fight truly gives you the sense that you overcome the greatest of challenges.

The only thing that's to be mentioned in this is that before the verse with "Receive the twilight", that entire bit is the leitmotif for another song called Paradise Lost, which is also related since it comes from the same event story saga as Lucilius called What Makes the Sky Blue. And its usually used for a character called Belial, a Fallen Angel whose also created by Lucilius and is one of the other antagonists for it. It's a nice call back.

And we've had official lyrics for a while now! We even got them again with the Relink Soundtrack. The line is "your fate is all but written". In the face of this God that has manifested, you have no power, your fate has already been determined and there's nothing you can do about it.

That's such a great analysis, i loved it!
People commented on it already but on some more clarification about the original use of this song:
-It's Lucilius' battle song from the 3rd part of the Trilogy "What Makes The Sky Blue". wmtsb built him up as an antagonist and he only reappeared in the third part.
-The answer to "What makes the Sky Blue" was answered by Lucifer in the second part about how just the fact of wondering despite knowing the science is in itself the question. "perhaps a question is really just a wish", and how we keep wanting answers for what we yearn for. That's why there is a focus on "What" in the songs linked to the wmtsb saga. Asking is in itself a wish, and for Lucilius it's about making sense of his existence as the clone of the Right Hand Of God, feeling like his existence itself is a cosmic joke, and that he will take back the world from God as a punishment.
-The song seems to be sang with "two voices" in mind. The One asking for "Give Praise" is often more attribuated to Belial, one of the main antagonists of wmtsb who is the person who brought Lucilius back to life (after killing Lucifer and beheading him, to sew Lucilius' head on his corpse). Belial is the one who spends the trilogy hyping up Lucilius' return and even talk in part 2 about how everyone should get to see Lucilius' might and creation.
Meanwhile the more philosophical aspects of the song are more Lucilius' musing.
-The "Recieve the Twilight" part, this instrumental that changes a lot, is a leitmotive through the story, of the soundtrack "Paradise Lost". The first time we hear Paradise Lost is while fighting Avatar, Lucilius' ultimate creation to help him overtake God, but this leitmotive has also since then be attributed to others Lucilius' creations.
More importantly in the Narrative portion of wmtsb3, Zero plays in the background, and this moment plays when Sandalphon invokes the power of Lucifer to take Lucilius down. In the specific scene that starts this musical portion, Lucilius sees a sort of apparition of Lucifer behind Sandalphon to give him his power.
Lucifer was Lucilius' perfect creation and clone, and he was mad at Belial for killing him. Sandalphon was created with the purpose of inheriting Lucifer's powers would Lucifer die, which is something Lucilius felt wouldn't be needed, and as such he always disregarded Sandalphon as "the spare".
This moment of music therefore is the moment Lucilius is forced to face the legitimacy of Sandalphon as Lucifer's legacy, as well as seeing Lucifer still lives on to oppose Lucilius' plans to destroy the skyrealms.
-Therefore the rest of the song after this Paradise Lost moment is more of Lucilius' last desperate attempt at getting his wish guaranted knowing he is losing the battle in some aspect.
Anyway it's a very cool song and i really loved this analysis and i just hope it can clarify it a bit.
Also PS: I've seen you liked End of Ragnarok a lot and were looking for the lyrics. A Friend of mine, SaltPrince on youtube, posted a video translation of the song! it should be one of the first results when looking for End of Ragnarok! I hope you will like it if you get to check it out!
Anyway good continuation and as a long time fan of the Granblue franchise i'm just so happy to see you getting deeply involved with its music. It's a pleasure to watch!
    Take care!

The 000 event in the original gbf was 5 years ago and "Zero" is to this day one of the best video game music tracks of all time imho.
The fact this song was written for a mobile gacha game still blows my mind to this day, it didn't have to be this epic, yet here we are with a 12 minute song full of grandeur and epicness.
I'm so glad they put it into Relink and give this song a broader audience, because it well damn deserves it.

Something really important to note is that in his original final boss fight, at 25% HP when the toughest parts of the fight are over and triumph over Lucilius is finally in sight, instead of "ZERO" completing its usual crescendo that you go over in the last minute of this video, it cuts out to "What Makes the Sky Blue", at around 2:54 of the TH-cam - Topic upload of the song.
The fight isn't yet over, and there's still some tension in the song, but every % of his hp bar that passes and every measure of the song we hear from then on signals a parting of the clouds and the player's answer to Lucilius' apocalyptic nihilism.

"I'm actually wondering where these questions are coming from."
For context, Lucilius within the setting is an immortal scientist and philosopher who was obsessed with the concept of free will and managed to understand the workings of the world. One of the cornerstone questions in the setting that he was the first to ask is "What makes the sky blue?", and how characters answer it is one of the major ways their personalities are showcased. Lucilius, though his studies, eventually reached the conclusion that the root cause that made the sky blue was the will of a god. That the interactions of people, as well as the flow of nature itself, was an expression of the creation deity's will.
The second verse that offers questions and answers is a retelling of an exchange that occurs in the game's story between Lucilius and Lucio, the right hand man of the setting's creation deity. Lucilius questions Lucio about the meaning of life and the nature of god, and Lucio's vague replies fail to satisfy him and instead only reinforce the conclusion that he'd already come to after realizing the above.
Namely that, in a world where all natural laws follow the will of a god, the only way to prove one's own free will is to do the one thing that definitely goes against god's will - return all things to nothingness, without exception or prejudice. The nothingness that follows the disappearance of reality will be a monument to his free will.
The nature of free will and people's desires for freedom (as well as what they're willing to sacrifice for it) is one of the major themes of Granblue Fantasy, and Lucilius in part exists to showcase the negative of the idea. A man of boundless wisdom and ability, who through the application of logic and an understandable desire to validate his own existence reached the conclusion that existence itself should disappear.
The first verse ("Give praise...") is an introduction to Lucilius' character, as by the point he's confronted in the game he achieved all but godlike power and is attempting to put an end to everything. The "For he has no equal" actually takes a mournful turn within context - the only person Lucilius considered a friend (someone who also disagreed with his plan) died shortly before the confrontation against him. By affirming his lack of equals just before the final battle, he denies the rest of the world the right to argue against him.
By taking the two verses together, the intent is to contrast Lucilius and the creation deity. The deity is largely an unknown to the people of creation, operating in - to use the classic - mysterious ways that fails to answer Lucilius' questions. By comparison Lucilius is here, a definitive individual with clear aims and intentions, and the power to make them a reality.
I actually like the choice of phrasing in "A god has been born unto the world." most of all in the song, since it turns what might otherwise sound like a good thing into something sinister. The birth of a god (Lucilius) isn't something the world chooses or cause, it's something that happens *to* it.

  • @km4587
    @km4587 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

The first time the lyrics come in, it describes Lucifer the Supreme Monarch, a benevolent, good angel who died struggling to understand the meaning of life but always wanting to protect all of creation despite its flaws.
The second time, it is used to describe Lucilius, his creator who was feared, overwhelming, a perfectionist, and despised the hypocritical nature of the Omnipotent's design of creation, rebelling to escape his role as a gear in the Creator's divine plan.
They are foils to each other, both instruments of the Omnipotent Creator, both questioning their roles and existence and finding different answers. One found meaning in love and died protecting the contradicting but beautiful world while the other rejected the hypocrisy of that world and rebelled against the creator in search of his own design.
And his goal, the grand finale, was to return the world into a state without the whims or control of a god, the state of Zero, where he could truly exist as a truly free being. And the old world would be his sacrificial lamb.

Macro I was hoping that you talked about this part 16:45, which is a leitmotif from the song Paradise Lost attributed to Sandalphon, who is the main character key ally and main nemesis to Lucillius in the original mobile game trilogy story. I like how his leitmotif would usually go "Let me feel the power that could rip me to shreds. Can't last one more hour, how soon will I meet my end?", but got abruptly and unceremoniously cut off by the Zero, which to me signifies in this fight, the heroes could not overpower the villain, and the villain was so strong it feels like he flicked off the heroes like insects (how Lucillius actually thinks of others around him)

@@BloodTrinity in addition to Ain Soph Aur being Sandalphon’s character song (lyrics that could pass off as Sandalphon’s hobby poetry filled with yearning feelings he had wished to express to Lucifer but is unable to do so), The Fifth Primarch, his boss theme from the original What Makes the Sky Blue story is his leitmotif.
The track “What Makes the Sky Blue” that dropped alongside 000 sounds like an uplifting, more hopeful and heroic acoustic-orchestral version of his boss theme reflecting how much this beloved primarch has grown from a vengeful primal beast desperately searching for a purpose in life to the supreme primarch accepting his grief and resolve to protect the skies out of his own free will with the events unfolding in 000 🥹

I second 'Existence' also as counterpoint song to Zero, given it kind of explains why Beelzebub and Lucilius eventually fall out:
Lucilius has determined his answer to the question the song asks (what makes the Sky Blue?) in Nihilistic opposition to the Omnipotent, while Beelzebub is walking his own path in trying to break free by becoming strong enough to replace the Omnipotent.

  • @KenBladehart
    @KenBladehart หลายเดือนก่อน +5

If you need some background on Lucilius, I can provide a brief rundown:
Hes an Astral scientist (same race as Lilith from Granblue Relink). Hes the person who created the Primal Beasts, and other Astrals picked up his knowledge
He becomes frustrated with the Skyrealm's fatal flaws (why the islands floating high in the sky, why the skydwellers are not immortal, etc), so he started a plan to bait out The Omnipotent (a.k.a Bahamut) by any means possible. Lucilius started the angel rebellion but thwarted by his very own creation Lucifer and the very first Primal Beast ever created with a swift beheading. This happened ~500 years ago timeline wise
Fast forward to present day Granblue time, Lucilius was resurrected by Belial and Beelzebub. He ran into Helel ben Sahar- his world-doppelganger and Bahamut's high hand man, who is tasked to tell Skydwellers to revere Bahamut. Lucilius managed to get Sahar's powers and that what you see in Granblue Relink fight with him
Bahamut himself is a whole barrel of lore. Like, its implied that Bahamut is from another galaxy

    • @TheSeeingman
      @TheSeeingman หลายเดือนก่อน

And for more detail on Lucilius and Sahar connection, Lucilius is Astral counterpart of Sahar who's the hand of God basically who funnily enough takes form close to Lucifer who's Lucilius creation and circles back into copying Lucilius since he created Lucifer as he's based off Lucilius himself as a disguise which is kinda funny.

The spare and the singularity. The girl and the dragon, unfettered by providence. There were too many unpredictable elements in this equation. Failure was inevitable. - Lucilius
All that godlike power, but instead of chaining others to a fate he desired, he was chained by his own. I love irony.

I still remember when Lucilius' HL raid was added. Seeing a lot of people posting on stuff like Twitter about joining the raid only to find themselves already dead. Because his entry trigger doing 30,000 damage. I don't think many if any expected that. It really made it feel very end game. Back then, people typically had to actually coordinate to some extent. It was something I loved about his raid. Of course, as time goes on, old harder raids become easier. Before it got too easy I finally managed to solo that fight. Ngl, was damn proud of myself for that lol.

Lucilius is truly an otherworldly foe in GBF. He stole his creator Lucifer’s body, gaining Godly power. His entire goal is to put the Grand Finale in motion; to end the world. Check out Dark Rapture next, that’s Lucilius phase 2’s theme.

As for who sings the vocals thematically, i think it a character called Belial who aids in his divine birth. One thing i really like about it is how the first time the vocals come it is voiced as a suggestion but the second time it is a demand, an order.
Also at 16:45 the music is also making a reference to another vocal track that is really good called "Paradise Lost", the theme of Sandalphon, the opposing character for Lucillius. It is a straightfoward but really fun rock track.

Granblue Fantasy has so much great OST. From Dark Silver Wings (Proto Bahamut OST), The Ultimate (Ultimate Bahamut OST), and Zero (Lucilius OST), everything was really awesome.
If you played the original browser game version, there are a lot of other OST which is just as awesome. I really recommends you to try the Rose Queen one, it is such a beautiful piece.
I played the original version for ~8 years and I still can't fathom how the song always go even more banger as the years go by.

Haven't seen it said yet, so it bears mentioning this song, and arguably this entire GBF arc, is heavily inspired by Symphony X's Divine Wings of Tragedy and their Paradise Lost album.
I love this because Narita drawing inspiration from prog metal is a beautiful parallel to Uematsu's classic prog inspirations.

  • @Darkyan97

Zero I think is bar none the best song that ever came out of Granblue, although Paradise Lost and End of Ragnarok are really close seconds.
I also have to mention that Dark Rapture, Lucilius' theme in Versus Rising (also used in Relink and the gacha's new Lucilius Raid) is quite underrated. Especially when it comes to its use of musical motifs which are present all throughout the 'What Makes The Sky Blue' Trilogy. It just makes the perfect theme for the final confrontation.

13:46 this little tidbit about "creation" made me think about how the Japanese language might've influenced this. An English speaker sees "creation" as 3 syllables, but a Japanese would see "ku-ri-e-shon" or "ku-ri-e-shi-on" and thus be able to "assign more notes" (excuse my lack of a better expression).
Zero and The Ultimate are fan favourites, but I also recommend Lumineria Omega from the Granblue Fantasy Orchestra album, if you'd like to explore more GBF.

This song blew me away the first time it came out, and has only gotten better each time!
One very important thing about Lucilius is that, in story, he was this gifted genious who eventually started to question the meaning of life and creation, until he finally decided on erasing it and bring it back to nothing.
Considering that I feel the initial questions are a call back to what he pondered as a researcher, while the second time it is what he tells us as we engage in combat.

I always felt this song is talking about lucilius to the MC during the fight, like trying to convince them to stop resisting and just accept the new god, and that's why it's changing all the time while saying the same, in base to the phases. Another detail is that the song ends at the 10% HP of the raid, after the "strongest" attack lucilius has, like it has given up in it's god after being unable to kill the singularity.

lucilius in the game was a genius astral researcher. beside his work of creating the primarch (angelic primal beasts), his life goal is to discover the purpose and machination of the world creation. the first part of lyrics the omnipotent answering to lucilius questions. this is why it's start off angelic or calm. the god still a commanding presence that people still "cower in fear".
through years of research, he eventually discover that he's only an inferior clone of more perfect being that the omnipotent created and discover that the world omnipotent create has alot of flaws. lucilius tried to rebel, but his original creation, lucifer (which is just lucilius's clone but more closer to the perfect being), cut him down. but he manage to revive himself, absorb lucifer's power, and absorb the perfect being he was cloned from, making him very close to omnipotent.
the second half onward is lucilius answering to the player character. this is why the tone shift into become more malicious. this also why the there's also additional lyrics mentioning "return to the void" and "Turn all, bind all until everything is black darkness" because this is lucilius' ultimate goal, turning the creations of the omnipotent into zero.
