  • Lionel produced more than 30 models of the ALCO Diesel locomotive. The four models of the 2000 series made between 1950 and 1954 were the luxury versions equipped with a die-cast base, magnetraction, an operating horn, an operating coil coupler and a three position e-unit. In 1969 two cheaper models were offered as 2041 and 2024.

Technically these are Alco FA's, not PA's. The PA has six wheel trucks and a long nose, while the FA has four wheel trucks and a short nose.
Personally have a 205 in Missouri Pacific colors from the late postwar period, still looking for the dummy unit to complete the A-A pair.

The 1969 version of #2041 should be considered a 200 series Alco. Reason: front apron is weak plastic body, and it is a sheet metal frame not aluminum as the earlier 2000 versions. Also the drive is changed to rear truck and a totally different sheet metal 200 series structure & design. Also no cast front and rear truck/sides, it is reduced to plastic no bearings and front axle runs against sheet metal edge. There is no connection of 2041 to 2023, nor 2033, etc. Mechanically I’m well aquatinted with both series 200 and 2000 and the differences are night and day. Lionel screwed up numbering 2041 as such, should have a 200 series number. All that aside your presentation is very good covering the early 027 Alco engines. The engines after the post war versions are even cheaper made and less robust.

What about the "Kansas City Special" ? All red with a white stripe. It's in a A,A set up. I got my set in 1966 as a kid. I still have it.
