The 6d (classic 😉) for me. Lighter, fantastic colours, clean images at even high ISOs, superb battery life. And at today's second hand prices an absolute steal.
totally agree about the IQ part. 5D mk1 original files are just almost perfect every time I open them in lightroom or adobe camera raw. - this shocked me first time i used this camera. it's 2005 camera.. and it's still kicking butts in 2022.
1dx and 5d classic is a nice budget friendly canon combo that covers most ground. Though the 5dsr is a steal if you need ultra high res files. The colors are quite good on it as well
I've got a Mk IV and an R6. The R6 is, hands down, the better camera. The things it can do that the Mk IV can't do are just unreal. The Mk IV is no slouch, but it's my backup. I don't even notice the EV any more, and I actually prefer it since you can see your exposure in real time and don't have to take your eye out of the view finder in order to review the image you just shot. I also love the Mk 1, but it's been a while since I've used it.
Awesome video. I'm a sucker for the 5D classic. Can you please make a image comparison video to compare color tones? Shoot some at 1.8, f4, f11 with the same lenses so we can get a fair comparison. I would LOVE to watch that.
Hi Richard, my upgrade path from the 5D MkI was the 1DS MKIII. Bit of a lump but but great ergonomics, no need for a battery grip and it has dual card slots. My personal view is that when Canon enabled the cameras to shoot video the stills photography quality was compromised.
Hello, I have the 5d classic and the 100d. What do you think about or have changed the focusing screen on the 5D to a split screen Ee-s model? I mainly use vintage manual focus fast primes and think it would be a upgrade?
If I were still shooting DSLRs, I would buy a 5dsr to pair with the 5div. My need to cover hybrid video efficiently is what moved me on to mirrorless, otherwise there wasn’t anything that i couldn’t proficiently cover between a 5div and 5dsr. In the studio, the 5dsr still cannot be beat by any full frame format sensor when considering the balance of ergonomics, detail, battery life, durability and lens selection. Both are competent for events and weddings, especially in the 5dsr since the RAW file output size can be adjusted if 50mp RAW files aren’t needed. I am still waiting for a model of Canon mirrorless cameras that I can trust for dependability at a reasonable value as much as the 5d series.
Thanks for your comment, I would like to try the 5DSR the file looks very sharp, The R3 looks like a good camera, still trying to get hold of one to test
Nice! I just picked up a used EOS RP for $750 to play with. I think I still prefer my 5D Classic, but its nice having a smaller camera to travel with and do some candid photography. Do you ever feel like you need a brighter/faster lens then the f/4s you're using for wedding photography? What about a darker reception location?
Good question, Most churches 1/60th - F4 - 3200 ISO. The 5D mk4 will let me go further this year 1/100th - F4 - 12800 Noise reduction in Lightroom is the key, try pushing your RP files in Lightroom see how you get on,
@@RichardBarleyphoto I suspect the 5D Mark IV files are superior to the RP. I'd still like to add a 5D Mark IV to my bag, when the prices come down a bit more. I don't think the Mark IV is going anywhere anytime soon. I love the form factor of the RP though, its great for travel and backpacking.
@@usuallyroamingrob3427 Yes - the 5d4 (and implicitly the EOS R) files are superior! Although the RP is still very good when you manage your exposure and shoot RAW. Most people can’t tell the difference between my shots taken on an R5 vs an RP, since it’s the glass that makes the most difference anyways.
@@mxilplict I agree. I watched the Ken Rockwell video on the RP and that sealed it for me. 90% of the time I shoot my RP with an rf24-105 f/4 l. I think this setup makes beautiful photos.
Did you try 1dx? For price used 5dm4 you Can get 1dxm2. I have 5d classic I bought again after 5 years from last one and shutter sound is magical. I have 5dm3 but 1dx is killer not only for sport and all Autofocus even in auto works supricly good where 5dn3 with this setting always focus on something else. I last time have in hand 5dm4 around 6 years ago in the airport shop and remember was not impressed me to compare to old classic. Who choice 1dxm2 over 5dm4 and why? 😊
I know - i didnt sell it used for this year 12 weddings 14000 images - the mk1 is a better image, i prefer using the mk4 at weddings because i have two card slots for back up

Sounds good, I would like to try it one day
Does the 6d shoot in monochrome? That is the only thing I miss in the 5d
@@rentedtux1883 the 5D will create B&W Jpegs straight out of camera. Do you mean quality B&W or just B&W in general?

Your view on the logistics of system integration is much appreciated. Technical specs vs on the job work flow can't be better emphasized.

I am collecting comparison images, I can tell you the 5d classic file is still the one I prefer , look out for more videos

I agree Andrew, there is something missing. 5D mk4 files are not as sharp as the mk1. I will battle on with it
I am still doing gigs with the old 5D Mark 1, I am so happy. but how can I replace it?
The Classic all day. It has a quality that is unique and beautiful. Lost on the newer models
I know what you mean, i think I am going to have a battle with this 5d mk4 file
amazing state of the first mark

Thx for sharing Richard! Very interesting..
Did you consider 2x 5D classics, so one as a backup when you are shooting. :-)
I did have two 5d classics but thought it was time to give a mk4 a go for at least 10 weddings,

You and many others have said a lot about the color of 5D Mk I images. When, during my raw workflow, would I ever notice this?
try neutral setting on the 5D classic, just use the jpg see what you think.
Great video, thanks. I'll stick with the 5D classic 😉
Glad you liked it, the 5D classic file is unique, thanks for your comment
Excellent video.
Thank you very much!
6D MK1 👌
Richard - how are those two 24-105 versions wide open at f4?
i mainly use the 24-105 at 5.6 if i can, at f4 inside soft on the edges, they are great at f11
I want to know from you about om 1olympus.
200 shutter count, who buys a camera and then sells at 200?
I know - i didnt sell it used for this year 12 weddings 14000 images - the mk1 is a better image, i prefer using the mk4 at weddings because i have two card slots for back up
