  • To celebrate 60 years since Castle Class No. 7029 Clun Castle achieved the then-fastest-ever non-stop run from Plymouth to Bristol in 133 minutes 9 seconds, with a top speed of 96 mph, Friday 10th May the same locomotive made the journey again to stretch her legs over the line.
This time the tour will take place over two days, starting on Friday, 10th May from Birmingham and travelling via Oxford and the Great Western Main Line via Bristol to Plymouth. The return trip on Saturday, 11th May is from Plymouth via Bristol to London.
There are roumers the crew are attempting to beat this record on Saturday 11th May 2024. time will tell.
Seen here on the 10th powering over Rattery bank, the 7th steepest in England and stretching 4 1/4 miles from Totnes to the summit of Marley Tunnel.
Then Plymouth North Road Station where support Diesel takes 7029 to bed for the night before the return trip in the morning.
Final short shot of 7029 going to bed at Laira Depot.
    hope you enjoy. Happy Steaming.

Not experienced Rattery before Dave, weather was spot on and was great to see a GWR loco down for a change.

My late father grew up in the penzance area, he would run up the beach at marazion to the track, to watch the castle’s go past. He talked about them for the rest of his life🙂
