The DOMINATING was kinda joke because Styg got fed up with people who thinks the game is too easy. So he just increased the enemy tier, sprinkle additional enemies, and bump the damage and hp for all enemies by 200% and boss hp by 1000%. So yeah, you have to be really meta to even make a dent of it. Huge majority of build isn't even viable to passed the first 3 mission.

Open notepad + and go to starsector-core>Data>config>Settings then ctrl F "whiteout" and take the text next to it that says "true" and erase it, then type in false. Then press the x on the tab in notepad + then close notepad + Now your screen wont be reminiscent of a nuclear cascade every time anything larger than a frigate finds it's inside bits external rapidly. ...you can also break the level cap.

I had one delivered and the driver ended up jumping out of his moving vehicle with my package between his legs, swinging his cowboy hat around like he was in a rodeo, and shouting nonsense words. It was the most unprofessional delivery I'd ever seen. Since the package left a seven mile wide death zone, the only reason I even know about his antics were the company's insistence on video streaming the delivery back to their HQ. I have to give them 2 out of 5 stars on this review. Whereas it was what I ordered, I would not commit indiscriminate "permanent evacuation of local residence" with the same delivery company again. I hear the Chinese are getting ready to start a wholesale delivery service for the same thing soon. Once again, the Chinese are putting Americans out of business. Just an aside, but it might be a good time to get into the "nuclear fallout cleanup" game.
For any newcomer who stumbled onto the video and expects to roflstomp the game with their big brain and stonkingly huge muscles - don't. This game doesn't fuck around at all. It will smack you down right after the tutorial if you have never played a turn based RPG. Here's some beginner hints I can give you though without giving too harsh spoilers: 1. Play on easy/normal and play with standard EXP gain. Oddity has some severe roadbumps due to there being a cap on gained exp for each item. Easy as a difficulty is forgiving enough, though I preferred normal. 2. Investing into speech check skills (Intimidate/persuation) early on can safe your bacon in specific situations. Don't just overinvest into it, but having around 40 effective skill can safe you early on. 3. Plan ahead - Your points aren't coming back and skills have a huge impact on performance. Only get your core combat skill, core defence skills (if any) and specific crafting skills to appropriate levels. Throwing helps quite a bit, so you actually hit stuff with the deadly grenades you can make. If you are really stumped, look for a specific newcomer build to work towards that focuses on core attributes. 4. Think outside of the box. You are not some all-destined hero prophecised to kick ass. You are just as weak as all the other things, sometimes even weaker. Employ crafty tactics like laying out a minefield with the mines you picked up from other locations before a harsh fight, use combat consumables (like throwing nets) or grenades to chunk clumped up groups, whatever works. 5. You can always just traverse back to your homeroom in SGS and deposit excess loot in one of the containers there. If you found a component you want to use later, but lack the skill, don't lug it around. stuff's heavy yo. Shops recycle about an hour of playtime as long as you aren't in the specific map tile. If those don't help and you feel like you cannot pass the barrier, then the only other piece of advise I can give you is to play a build called "Tin Can" - it focuses heavily on defence and uses powerful ranged weapons - either shotguns or assault rifles to brute force through encounters without taking much damage in the process. It doesn't use psionics at all and just plows through most enemies. You can find builds for it both on the official forums, or even in the steam guide section for UnderRail, as it is basically the "go-to" beginner build. The only problem I have playing it that you might end up falling asleep, as encounters play out all the same with it :)
Additionally, there are a variety of ways that you can lose control of your character or be unable to attack during combat. I've found it useful to have a couple of different ways to attack to try to avoid issues. Or, at the very least, a large supply of grenades and napalm so I can start dropping them at my feet as a last desperate move. 1) Being "Stunned' means that you cannot make any actions, and being attacked does NOT remove the "Stun" debuff. After recovering from the "Stun", you will get a "Second Wind" buff that will prevent you from being stunned again. But it only lasts for 2 turns. 2) Being "Incapacitated" means that you cannot make any actions, but being attacked DOES remove the "Incapacitated" debuff. There are different variations to this debuff, like being Frozen (which you can prevent by dropping a napalm on yourself) or having a Mental Breakdown. 3) You can get the "Fear" debuff, which causes you to run away from enemies. I'd argue that the "Rage" debuff is similar, in that it causes you to lose control of your character. Instead of running away, however, under a "Rage" debuff you just attack the closest thing. 4) You can get "Immobilized", wherein you can't move. You can still attack, defend, and make other actions but you can't walk. This can happen from stepping in traps (like Bear Traps) or when fighting enemies that can snare you. Mutant dogs, for example, like to puke out giant acid balls that will immobilize you AND cause damage. This really sucks if you have a melee build. 5) You can get "Crippled" from some attacks. This basically will reduce your Strength stat and your available Action Points for a number of turns, AND it can stack. You can get like 4 stacks of "Crippled" from just one junkie with a knife, at which point your ability to wield your big weapons (like a sledgehammer) is reduced to nothing since your accuracy goes to shit and it suddenly takes more Action Points to attack than you have available. Keep in mind that you can get trapped during fights where you get Stunned by an attack and then after recovering from that you can get Incapacitated by a Flash Grenade. And then, shortly after recovering, you can end up being Stunned again after the "Second Wind" buff expires. All during this you can be gaining stacks of Crippled. There are some Perks you can take to reduce how often you get stunned, and there are some items like drugs or equipment that can help (like a metal helmet with a shaded visor makes you immune to being affected by flashbangs). It also helps to learn the behavior of enemies, as you can use tactics to reduce the number of enemies you are facing. For example, rathounds are afraid of fire which can be useful since dropping a flare is enough to send them running for a turn.

Yeah, really the only ones I've played are the Heroes of Might and Magic games. I think it's great that there's a channel that covers such niche and under appreciated games though.

I've barely made it through the 4th quest and it's already teaching me important RPG lessons. I tried to reload and kill a thug asking for a toll to get by for about 10 minutes until I finally asked what the toll was. I don't know what the currency exchange rate is, but the 5 Charon toll is less than the amount of times I failed to throw a grenade at him and only hit one person. TL;DR Ask first, shoot later.
Rare, it has been mostly the opposite for me. In oldschool rpgs gutting the enemies before they speak turns out more profitable at the end, and more safe. The first 2 fallouts come to mind, having the high ground is always better.

I lost weeks of my life to Space Station 13. I actually had bought this game ages ago, but only booted it up and made a character before getting distracted by a set of car-keys.
This made me think of the amount of save-scumming I sometimes do in StarSector (thank Sseth). Yeah, I am probably not good at it, but not being good at something does not equal not enjoying it.

Found the game through Sseth. Had been playing it for maybe around a dozen hours or more. Sat down yesterday intending to play maybe half an hour to an hour, and the doing important stuff. Stopped eight or nine hours later when I was forced to by train schedule, it was around 20:15 and hadn't even eaten lunch, and only gone to the toilet like once or twice, and I am not 100% sure of even the one. This hasn't happened to this extent to me ever before, Starsector is too good. (Also, those hours were worth it. No regrets.)
The first two Fallouts are a couple of my favorite games. The Fallout series(barring recent entries) is my favorite series. I had no idea this existed. I want to play it so badly that it is almost physically painful. I will be buying it now. If you never see me again, you’ll know where to find me.
I'm about halfway through it but I never liked the fallout comparison. Because Fallout's a lot simpler, down to earth system and the setting's immediate post-apocalypse. Underrail meanwhile, you can see that there's been so much time that the surface got destroyed (nobody even talked about what happened, and that one guy is mystified by wood. Because of just how long ago it was), that it isn't post-apocalypse, it's just a new age of man. It's the difference between 20, maybe 100 years after Rome fell, vs the middle ages. It's a successor, just like Duke Nukem is to Doom: they're similar but a lot of the context has changed

This game has a really high skill ceiling & difficulty curve. If it’s your first time playing the game, even if you are an RPG game veteran, I echo what sseth said and strongly recommend you follow a guide. I also don’t recommend you mess around too much with psionics or traps until you play through the game at least once with a more “basic” build. What I mean by that is a build that consists of your typical high perception stealth assault rifle character. Super fun game that has already sucked away 100 hours of my life
Having played it a bit myself (just finished up the Dude quests on Normal, and being around level 17), I’d also recommend a throwing/INT/Thought Control build. You can rush Mk. 5 Grenades incredibly quickly, and those are insane when mixed with Thought Control psi abilities. Makes your character great at crowd control, which is essential for this game imo.

The DOMINATING was kinda joke because Styg got fed up with people who thinks the game is too easy. So he just increased the enemy tier, sprinkle additional enemies, and bump the damage and hp for all enemies by 200% and boss hp by 1000%. So yeah, you have to be really meta to even make a dent of it. Huge majority of build isn't even viable to passed the first 3 mission.

then ctrl F "whiteout" and take the text next to it that says "true" and erase it, then type in false.

I had one delivered and the driver ended up jumping out of his moving vehicle with my package between his legs, swinging his cowboy hat around like he was in a rodeo, and shouting nonsense words. It was the most unprofessional delivery I'd ever seen.
Since the package left a seven mile wide death zone, the only reason I even know about his antics were the company's insistence on video streaming the delivery back to their HQ. I have to give them 2 out of 5 stars on this review. Whereas it was what I ordered, I would not commit indiscriminate "permanent evacuation of local residence" with the same delivery company again. I hear the Chinese are getting ready to start a wholesale delivery service for the same thing soon. Once again, the Chinese are putting Americans out of business.
Just an aside, but it might be a good time to get into the "nuclear fallout cleanup" game.

Don’t worry, eventually you’ll just learn to stop worrying about when your bomb arrives.
For any newcomer who stumbled onto the video and expects to roflstomp the game with their big brain and stonkingly huge muscles - don't. This game doesn't fuck around at all. It will smack you down right after the tutorial if you have never played a turn based RPG. Here's some beginner hints I can give you though without giving too harsh spoilers:
1. Play on easy/normal and play with standard EXP gain. Oddity has some severe roadbumps due to there being a cap on gained exp for each item. Easy as a difficulty is forgiving enough, though I preferred normal.
2. Investing into speech check skills (Intimidate/persuation) early on can safe your bacon in specific situations. Don't just overinvest into it, but having around 40 effective skill can safe you early on.
3. Plan ahead - Your points aren't coming back and skills have a huge impact on performance. Only get your core combat skill, core defence skills (if any) and specific crafting skills to appropriate levels. Throwing helps quite a bit, so you actually hit stuff with the deadly grenades you can make. If you are really stumped, look for a specific newcomer build to work towards that focuses on core attributes.
4. Think outside of the box. You are not some all-destined hero prophecised to kick ass. You are just as weak as all the other things, sometimes even weaker. Employ crafty tactics like laying out a minefield with the mines you picked up from other locations before a harsh fight, use combat consumables (like throwing nets) or grenades to chunk clumped up groups, whatever works.
5. You can always just traverse back to your homeroom in SGS and deposit excess loot in one of the containers there. If you found a component you want to use later, but lack the skill, don't lug it around. stuff's heavy yo. Shops recycle about an hour of playtime as long as you aren't in the specific map tile.
If those don't help and you feel like you cannot pass the barrier, then the only other piece of advise I can give you is to play a build called "Tin Can" - it focuses heavily on defence and uses powerful ranged weapons - either shotguns or assault rifles to brute force through encounters without taking much damage in the process. It doesn't use psionics at all and just plows through most enemies. You can find builds for it both on the official forums, or even in the steam guide section for UnderRail, as it is basically the "go-to" beginner build. The only problem I have playing it that you might end up falling asleep, as encounters play out all the same with it :)

Additionally, there are a variety of ways that you can lose control of your character or be unable to attack during combat. I've found it useful to have a couple of different ways to attack to try to avoid issues. Or, at the very least, a large supply of grenades and napalm so I can start dropping them at my feet as a last desperate move.
1) Being "Stunned' means that you cannot make any actions, and being attacked does NOT remove the "Stun" debuff. After recovering from the "Stun", you will get a "Second Wind" buff that will prevent you from being stunned again. But it only lasts for 2 turns.
2) Being "Incapacitated" means that you cannot make any actions, but being attacked DOES remove the "Incapacitated" debuff. There are different variations to this debuff, like being Frozen (which you can prevent by dropping a napalm on yourself) or having a Mental Breakdown.
3) You can get the "Fear" debuff, which causes you to run away from enemies. I'd argue that the "Rage" debuff is similar, in that it causes you to lose control of your character. Instead of running away, however, under a "Rage" debuff you just attack the closest thing.
4) You can get "Immobilized", wherein you can't move. You can still attack, defend, and make other actions but you can't walk. This can happen from stepping in traps (like Bear Traps) or when fighting enemies that can snare you. Mutant dogs, for example, like to puke out giant acid balls that will immobilize you AND cause damage. This really sucks if you have a melee build.
5) You can get "Crippled" from some attacks. This basically will reduce your Strength stat and your available Action Points for a number of turns, AND it can stack. You can get like 4 stacks of "Crippled" from just one junkie with a knife, at which point your ability to wield your big weapons (like a sledgehammer) is reduced to nothing since your accuracy goes to shit and it suddenly takes more Action Points to attack than you have available.
Keep in mind that you can get trapped during fights where you get Stunned by an attack and then after recovering from that you can get Incapacitated by a Flash Grenade. And then, shortly after recovering, you can end up being Stunned again after the "Second Wind" buff expires. All during this you can be gaining stacks of Crippled. There are some Perks you can take to reduce how often you get stunned, and there are some items like drugs or equipment that can help (like a metal helmet with a shaded visor makes you immune to being affected by flashbangs).
It also helps to learn the behavior of enemies, as you can use tactics to reduce the number of enemies you are facing. For example, rathounds are afraid of fire which can be useful since dropping a flare is enough to send them running for a turn.

I've barely made it through the 4th quest and it's already teaching me important RPG lessons. I tried to reload and kill a thug asking for a toll to get by for about 10 minutes until I finally asked what the toll was. I don't know what the currency exchange rate is, but the 5 Charon toll is less than the amount of times I failed to throw a grenade at him and only hit one person.

How can you be done playing Starsector?
Found the game through Sseth. Had been playing it for maybe around a dozen hours or more. Sat down yesterday intending to play maybe half an hour to an hour, and the doing important stuff. Stopped eight or nine hours later when I was forced to by train schedule, it was around 20:15 and hadn't even eaten lunch, and only gone to the toilet like once or twice, and I am not 100% sure of even the one.
This hasn't happened to this extent to me ever before, Starsector is too good.
(Also, those hours were worth it. No regrets.)

The first two Fallouts are a couple of my favorite games. The Fallout series(barring recent entries) is my favorite series. I had no idea this existed.
I want to play it so badly that it is almost physically painful. I will be buying it now.

It’s the true spiritual successor to fallout and the greatest cRPG I have ever played
I'm about halfway through it but I never liked the fallout comparison. Because Fallout's a lot simpler, down to earth system and the setting's immediate post-apocalypse. Underrail meanwhile, you can see that there's been so much time that the surface got destroyed (nobody even talked about what happened, and that one guy is mystified by wood. Because of just how long ago it was), that it isn't post-apocalypse, it's just a new age of man. It's the difference between 20, maybe 100 years after Rome fell, vs the middle ages.
It's a successor, just like Duke Nukem is to Doom: they're similar but a lot of the context has changed
I always smile when I hear Sseth's voice, because I know there's gonna be some sweet sweet autism around the corner for me.

You're correct. RPS is very bad at their jobs. I have written to a few of their "journalists" and never heard back. Guess they don't appreciate constructive criticism.

It all changed when Jim Rossignol left. He obviously left it for a reason. I loved his articles the most.
People don't understand that companies aren't what their brands stand for, but what the people behind these brands stand for. If you lose key people, the brand is just a lie. But I guess that's just capitalism.

@@zephyrna6249 Serbia became very westernized in the last decade. Balkan countries get the reputation of being dangerous and tough but in reality they are some of the safest and best places to live in the world, safer than germany or france or england. Go to bosnia or montenegro if you want to see the raw balkan life and mentality. Its not like it was in yougoslavia but a lot of people still have the old school mentality there

This game has a really high skill ceiling & difficulty curve. If it’s your first time playing the game, even if you are an RPG game veteran, I echo what sseth said and strongly recommend you follow a guide. I also don’t recommend you mess around too much with psionics or traps until you play through the game at least once with a more “basic” build. What I mean by that is a build that consists of your typical high perception stealth assault rifle character. Super fun game that has already sucked away 100 hours of my life
Having played it a bit myself (just finished up the Dude quests on Normal, and being around level 17), I’d also recommend a throwing/INT/Thought Control build. You can rush Mk. 5 Grenades incredibly quickly, and those are insane when mixed with Thought Control psi abilities. Makes your character great at crowd control, which is essential for this game imo.
