    Sorry to hear about your back Jim. You don't have to feel bad about stopping train videos, your health is more important then our entertainment.

    Thank you Jim for all your entertaining and informative videos all these years. I was actually in one of them…we were both on the MSC Seaside (I think it was that ship) and you filmed me carrying my breakfast to my table , I had no idea you were behind the camera or I would have lost my mind and would have loved to share a drink with you and your wife. Well thank you again I really enjoyed all your videos and I understand now it’s time for you to really enjoy your time. All the best in 2024, and who knows we may meet again on another cruise.Joanna from Canada 🇨🇦

    Jim, I’m sorry to hear about your back pain. Herniated discs are terrible! I had two in the past. I’m looking forward to seeing your videos on your upcoming cruises in 2024. Feel better!

    I have really enjoyed watching your videos over the years, thank you! I’ll soon be going on a Viking ocean cruise in the Caribbean, in no small part thanks to your Viking review videos. This holiday season I made my extended family watch some of them while we were gathered together. I think they might want to join me now! Wishing you and Kellen a healthy and successful 2024.

      Our Viking cruise in the Caribbean was one of the greatest cruise of all the ones we've done! To be able to visit a different Caribbean island every day of the cruise was wonderful for us. We're beach people... so, every day we just visited a different Caribbean beach, and each one was wonderful in their own way. I would love to do that exact same cruise again someday.

    Looking forward to more cruise videos Jim. Enjoy your extra time off and thank you for Catlin you were right... she's the best.

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Over the years I've had several comments from people who have assumed that Caitlin was my daughter or otherwise related to me in some way. The assumption being, I think, that I was just recommending her because of a family bond. But no, it's always been important to me that if I'm going to recommend something or someone, it should be because they deserve recommending.

    I hope your back starts feeling better. I follow another channel cruisereport, they're around your age, not a bigtime channel at all, and they took a complimentary Silverseas cruise. So it could be worth checking with other 'luxury' niche type cruise lines to see if they need your expert drone/video services. But I'm sure it's more fun if Kellyn comes with you. Rest up, enjoy your bountiful harvest, looking forward to your Icon vids.

    Maybe something you should consider is some sort of pernamit train layout, maybe in the garden or a room or something

    I can't wait to see the new videos about Icon of the Seas by Royal Caribbean International cruise line for your February cruise to the Eastern Caribbean including Royal Caribbean's private Island in the Bahamas known as Coco Cay this year, 2024!
    It will be your 64th cruise overall with nine cruise lines: American Cruise Lines, Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean International, MSC, Celebrity, Pearl Seas Cruises, Princess and Viking!
    Icon of the Seas has completed construction in a shipyard in Germany, Europe and also has completed a transatlantic trip to the Port of Miami in Florida!

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I mistakenly said in the video that Icon Of The Seas was built in a shipyard in Germany. It was actually built at a shipyard in Finland. The shipyard in Finland is called Meyer Turku, and I mistook that for the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.

      @@JimZim Oh, yeah, I get it! Icon of the Seas was built at a shipyard in Finland, Europe not Germany!

    Jim, you could have eaten in a Guy Fieri restaurant when you visited us here in Norfolk. It is not far from where your ship docked. Keep it in mind & maybe come back and see us some day. 😊

    We have a 16 year old Cockalier. I really think she has lived this long because of the 1.5 years I worked fully remote and the past two where I have worked a hybrid work schedule. I really believe the extra time with her has impacted her health. Happy New Year.

    weird audio glitch at 9:47. I will keep watching even if there are less videos. content is still great in my eyes

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, sorry about that audio glitch. My sound processing unit has developed a problem, probably from being dragged around on too many cruises and being in my checked baggage. I actually had to re-record this entire video multiple times to get one where the sound worked properly through the majority of the video. My first take, the sound was completely bad and I didn't realize it until I had put all the equipment away and started trying to edit the video. On the second take, I thought the sound was OK when I listened back to it on speakers... but once I put a pair of headphones on and could really hear it perfectly I realized that the sound was still not right. On the third attempt, I finally got it recorded OK except for two small audio glitches. One I was able to edit out with some creative editing, but the other I had to just leave in. Sorry!

    Getting older is definitely the big issue for owning big model trains such as G scale, and i completely understand why you dont want to make too many videos with the trains because of your back

    I enjoy your Thomas the Tank Engine videos and watching your other American steam engines most of all. I know of a place where magic lives. I visited the Magic Kingdom twice during my first and only 10-day holiday in Florida. I think you and your wife ought to add it to your to-do list. Who says you can't be kids? Who says dreams don't come true? I can recommend going into this wondrous world of magic that can be yours, as it was mine, to treasure for a lifetime and beyond. I'm talking about Walt Disney World, the theme park home of Mickey Mouse and all his Disney friends. If you haven't thought about it yet, do so now. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you and your wife to enjoy the magic Disney World has to offer. Don't let it slip through your fingers.

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Since I'm a west coast guy, I've spent a fair amount of time at Disneyland in Anaheim, California... but have never been to Disney World in Florida. I even stayed at Disney's Grand Californian, a high-end hotel adjacent to Disneyland, with its own entrance to the park. That was the most impressive hotel I had ever stayed in, up to that point in my life.
      But the thing the strikes me about Disney overall is that it's always one of the most expensive ways to do things... whether it be hotels, cruise ships, or amusement parks. Travel value is always extremely important to me, so I always seem to end up going with better values than Disney.

    • @kellyashfordtrains2642
      @kellyashfordtrains2642 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JimZim I understand where you're coming from. Yes, it's good to get what you paid for, I wholly agree. But is travel value more important than having the fun of being let off the leash? To me, when it comes to a holiday, nothing is more important than having fun and laughing all the way. I certainly got what I paid for, Disney music the whole way by Virgin Airways Flight, a Cabana Bay Beach Hotel Room with TH-cam on TV. Getting to Disney World is expensive, yes, but the long flight is worth every penny you save up. No other holiday destination has better values than Disney World. If Disney World hadn't been created so we could meet Mickey Mouse and his friends, we wouldn't know what fun is. I acted like an excited 5-year-old child, when I visited the theme park. Go on, try visiting Disney World in Florida, where the order of the day is fun, fun and more fun.

    To be honest as far as making layouts in the backyard they pretty much look the same as other videos you have and it makes me lose interest in watching the videos. I think it's better that you take your time to create a different layout in your backyard so that way your videos will be more interesting to watch.

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, I know what you mean. There really aren't a lot of great ways to create different layouts in my backyard.
      At our California house it was a little easier, because at most times of the year I could run the trains in and out the doors from the house to the yard without a bunch of insects coming in. But up here at our new house in Washington, there's never really a time of the year when you would want a door open to the outside for long enough to make a video. You'd either let in very cold air, very hot air, or a bunch of insects.
      So, I can't do indoor/outdoor layouts. There aren't a lot of interesting ways to make the outdoor layouts, other than doing the big loop around the lawn. The only way to differentiate one video from another is to run different trains, or do something interesting with the camera work. But mostly, they all just end up looking the same, as you've noticed.
