KOMATSU D155AX- 6 Vs. Cat D8R

  • More horsepower, more weight, and superior engineering equals more production. The Komatsu's superior ripper design keeps the track sucked to the ground for better traction. In this test the Komatsu had all three rippers in the ground compared to Cat's one. Needless to say the customer sent the Cat back.

    high tracks were never designed with the theory that they improve traction. the elevated drives were designed to keep the final drives off the ground to decrease wear on them.

    I've done a simular test to this, but with an 8T not R. One thing no one has mentioned is that the Komatsu gearing is slightly higher than the cat. Plus its slightly more powerful so of course its faster than the cat.
    While we had them on demo, we put them slot cutting for a day side by side. We checked the material with gps and the komatsu had moved more, and used less fuel.
    Personally I like the Cat, but my company bought the Komatsu, and I understand why they chose it. Dealer is good too.

    The Komatsu has obviously wider tracks. Less slippage but far harder on those expensive undercarriages. Also a newer machine by 2-1/2 decades.

    Been a Cheeky New Zealander here but I was told mate the other day cats can't back up over piles but Komatsu dozers can, I replied " why would want back up over a truck pile, when you normally would just back around it and push it out" . Komatsu lover my bro is😉

    Also look at the angle the guy on the cat is running his ripper at. He's plowing instead of ripping. This video may be impressive to those who dont know what they're looking at but operators know whats up!!!

    I run a 96' 155 with 15,000hrs alongside a new D8T last spring and out ripped him in a hard rock borrow pit, Komatsu have always had a better ripping dozer and better blade design on virtually everthing they make. Notable exceptions for me were the 135 and the 58LGP, both P'sOS and not made anymore. I know some owners that have done very well with Komatsu since the 60's (After the cat dealer screwed them on parts) ...So it goes both ways.

    I have worked with Cat and Komatsu bulldozers in my works. My experience is that komatsu dozers ripping better than Cat dozers. I think is the design, Komatsu has more distance from ripper to the front wheel, it gets to be more punching power.

    • @yaomingdixshanghai6125
      @yaomingdixshanghai6125 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The old version of cat such D-9 is strong as Komatsu, but the new version with high track are not, because its doesn't provide the strong ground pressure, only good thing about high track is to keep the dirt out but not the pushing power.

    • @iviars420
      @iviars420 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wrong. The d9n series CAT dozer have the high track and have 71.9 metric tons of drawbar pull. The kom in the video only has 66 metric tons of drawbar pull with the low track. The cat also only has 10 more hp than the kom making it a better machine.

    • @yaomingdixshanghai6125
      @yaomingdixshanghai6125 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The cat have 10 more hp than the kom but its useless and probably more expensive as well. There two good things about high track will last longer on the track and keep their dirty away, but if you want the power and get the job done quickly low track is the answer.

    • @markam306
      @markam306 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Cat high drive simplifies and strengthens the transmission. This durability advantage is well worth the increased length of track.

    Interesting stunt, and convincing to those who do not understand the application. Why didn't you let the Cat sink his shank angle in? Why is the D8 ripper shank longer? Why is the center shank on the Komatsu shorter?
    I wonder how long it took you guys to layer the right amount of fill to keep the Cat in the rock and Komatsu in fill.
    Interesting stunt. You should try it again with rippers of the same depth, and operators who know how to rip.

  • @alovero2
    @alovero2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The Cat highdrive loses track on ground during ripping. That's why when he forces the ripper down, the tracks start to slip. The ripper mounts to the machine in front of the rear idler on the Cat so the back of the track lifts when the ripper goes down.

Yea the komastus are heavier which gives them better traction but but them both on a high wall or a sloping project and see who comes outon top. Cat by far is better equipment the komastu. Also run the WA1200 loader and the cat 994 which is an old run down machine will run longer harder and produce the same tons and its a smaller loader

    There is a difference in the length of the Rippers. One had three that was shorter. The other one had one that was longer. Grabbing into heavy Rock. That's the difference. And at the end of the day it really didn't matter. One of them tears up big rock. And the other one digs up surface rocks. Totally different Rippers

    Hi, Folks.
    It is interesting to read all these comments - - - and NOBODY changing anybody else's opinion. Fight, you dummies, FIGHT. I 'HATE' peace.
    Firstly, the Cat is quoted as being a D8R, which is only about 285 HP, NOT 305 HP like the newer D8T. It is also LIGHTER than the D8T, hence less traction. Pitted against a tractor with another 70 HP and probably close to TEN tons more weight? With that in mind, just what would common sense tell you might be the expected result?
    And then add in the 15,000 hours that the Cat is said to have already done.
    I am open to correction here as these figures are off the top of my head but I think they provide a more accurate picture than some are painting here.
    Just my 0.02.
    You all have a wonderful argument. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

    Each machine has it's benefits, i run a d10 and a komatsu 375, controls are less fatiging on a d10, komatso more quiter, kopmatsu has digital display with built in camera and a you can select recirculating air, the 10 is better for crushing rocks, 10 has better cab with more room to keep your junk and you can see the bottom of the blade. Komatsu brakes don't grab so hard or shift gears as rough becuase of the damper. You run either enough you start to like one.

    The elevated sprocket concept was more for aesthetics effects but believe me it does not improve the tractive efficiency of the machine. Its more costly to maintain.The earlier Cats with regular tracks were class. Komatsu on the other hand is much simpler in design and more efficient. I recommend that Cat return to the regular track design and drop the elevated sprocket!!!!"Half is better than quarter".

    Parece que o D155 leva uma pequena vantagem, provavelmente por ser um pouco mais potente.

    i run a D8r in a gravel pit ,affectionately known as the dirty deed, god only knows how many hours it has, still going strong i looked at the 155 komatsue at a dealer nice looking piece of iron! just wonder how it would hold up at 20 thousand hours

    Haha funny to see all the cat-fanatics support their machine. I myself know very well as a salesman that the D155 has way better fuel consumption and part prices. Komatsu Rules!

    Any idea why Cat chose to have a 'high-drive' final sprocket?
    Am wondering whether there might be a distant parallel between say, a Honda Accord and a Cadillac DTS (feel's quite different behind the wheel)?
