    The more I watch your videos the more I think that your channel should receive a grant from the unesco: you are doing an excellent job in keeping alive great music that, generally speaking, does not receive the attention it deserves.

    If you watch Mcgeoch playing it live on this song, he switches the flanger off when he does the D to E barre chord bit. Then in the chorus, he switches it on and off to accent the high notes ,quite some tap dancing to perform live!

    This is a superb lesson and pretty much flawless. You clarified a couple of things for me in the guitar break that I thought I'd pretty much nailed - just goes to show that one should never be complacent and that somebody else might have a different and better take on what you think you already know. My McGeoch arsenal consists of a Marshall JVM 410c, a Roland JC-120, MXR flanger, MXR carbon copy delay and, as of this week, a 1977-vintage Yamaha SG-1000 in almost perfect condition. I haven't sorted any amp switching or flanger stand-mount adaptors yet. It's about time I set to work on sorting out the talent. :D

  • @tothefinlandstation
    @tothefinlandstation 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Flanger (like chorus) is just a very short modulated delay. "Manual" is delay time, "width" is how much the delay time is modulated, "speed" is how fast it is modulated, and "regen" is how much feedback there is. The difference between flange and chorus is that flange has a shorter delay time, and chorus usually doesn't have any feedback (and sometimes has multiple modulated delay lines). Vibrato is a short modulated delay, but there's no dry signal.

    I am so delighted you posted this. i was going to request it! My favourite version is the Robert Smith playing of it on Nocturne where he stood in for McGeogh. I thought (will have to listen to it again) that he arpeggiates the top three strings once he has hit the chord in the chorus - my favourite bit! But of course, there is now nothing preventing me from doing so! Thanks so much! (and merry Christmas).

    I should also say that you consistently do lessons on my favourite songs - lessons that no one else seems to do - The Cure, Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Dead Kennedys. All we need now are some Talking Heads songs (not necessarily Psycho Killer). In fact, how about an introduction to slide guitar with The Big Country (More Songs About Buildings and Food, not the band)? Probably my favourite Talking Heads song.

    Adrian- thank you so much for your channel and passion. I just discovered it, and as a beginner in my 50’s, I really appreciate the music choices you make! In addition, including all types of music helps us re-appreciate all different genres- I love it. However, punk and post punk especially are my favorites, and this beautiful rendition of Israel is great. Any chance of doing Spanish Bombs without a capo? I think The Clash did it without, but most videos make use of a capo and I want to do it in its original form. Anyway, thanks again from out here in the States!

    Wicked Adrian,
    For me this takes me back in⏳2 The double live' Nocturne` album & that seemingly never ending;
    Stravinsky`s-The Rite of Spring-At the start to it, which seems to go on forever before it finally ends
    & the crowd goes wild as Steven Severin`s super flanged bass kicks in/off the first tune Israel.
    I still listen the album now in the 🚘 occasionally(great night🌃time tunes) to drive 2 especially that opening track as well as live version 's of Spellbound & Happy House & many other classics.
    Great rhythms laid down by Budgie & it might surprise some of your subscribers to know that all the guitars are played by Robert Smith who was the Banshees guitarist at that time-83`ish
    Definitely check it out if you haven't heard it before~it's a great double live album~one for any collection & well worth a listen🔊
    Anyway keep the interesting🎅tunes🌲a`coming🎶
    And have a good weekend m8~😊
