Some people gotta quit moaning about how slow the 320i is... what is your point??? BMW offers you the 330i, which has the same 2.0litre 4 cylinder engine, but tuned to 185kw/350Nm. The 320i is tuned for those who desire efficiency and moderate power from a 2.0 petrol engine. There's also the 340i or the M3 if you need more petrol power. Fanatics of cheap cars are always a headache in the comments section, honestly. #M4Owner.

Yes, I agree totally. I got the new 330i and it is not slow at all. o - 60 in 5,9 sec. and it has good fuel consumption.

i wouldn't consider this a slow car even though i like my cars doing 0-100 in under 6 sec. This is a 4 cylinder sedan that does 0-100 in 7.5 sec wich is great if you take in mind that the E46 320i does it in 9 sec. This is an entry level 3 series what did you people expect 0-100 in 4 sec?

@@calmwaves984 This is one of the entry level 3 series models. You cant compare it to performance orientated 4 pots. Compare it to a C200 and Audi A4 35 or 40 tfsi. Apples to apples.
All these children below who keep bitching about the 320i being a weak car have obviously never driven a BMW. Firstly, BMW ALWAYS underrates their engines. The 320i despite on paper only having 180 hp, in reality its around 200hp i.e. 150 kw. Which is more than enough for a daily while also being a fun car if required to do so. Its what you enjoy that comes first. Who the fck gives a shit about power when it feels fast. Power is relative to your own experience. If a car has 100 hp and you think its fast thats all it matters. Being a 340i owner I have driven my mate's 320i and it does feel fast, it can be comfy if you need it to be, and its lot more fuel efficient than my 340i. Its definitely not weak. No one on the road is going to give a shit if you have a 320i or 330i because all they see is a 3 series.

Richie Chou I use to drive 340 once before I got my 320, I’m living in Guangzhou with average 25kmh speed in the city, 320 is good to me.
If you want more power, get the 330I... And if thats not enough get the 340i... And if thats not enough get the M3.
this isn't a performance car. Its an entry model 3 series.

I was in my mates 320i and it felt quick once it picked up speed. It didnt feel weak or slow a single bit

7,5 sek 0-100 is actually good enough. there were times cars were almost labeled as sports car with this performance.
hanspanzer It is good actually but also my audi a4 2013 2.0 Turbo can do much better from 0-100 in 6.8 seconds, with good fuel efficiency.

This is a perfect combination of a relatively dynamic car being economic at the same time. The diesel would be a better option, but the sound of a petrol engine is nicer.
Dont forget about the higher rpms. Also a point for the petrol engine.
i dont understand why people bitch about the power. it's totally sufficient for what anyone needs. youre likely to rarely even use the full power on any car to begin with especially if you live in a city.
for the people complaining about performance, this car with a tune does 5.5-5.8 secs, which is about as quick as a ve ss commodore whilst providing much better handling and much better fuel economy, dont let the stock times phase u, also the best stock time is 7.3, 7.5 is wrong.

320 not as powerful as 325 but am happy with it's power for daily use and parts a bit cheaper than the 325 n other big engines if not happy simple don't buy it
for the haters: bmw has another 2.0 and its called 330i. If you wan't to burn petrol, take that one. it will definetely be faster.
They both have the same tuning potential, so either is suitable.

Tune these and you gain 50 kw!! BMW limit the power after 4500 rpm to protect 328i sales.
Just be careful and don't fall for those 280-300hp tunes. The 330i has lower compression ratio (10.2:1 vs 11:1 in 20i) which makes it safer to run high boost. 250-260 is a good middle ground for the 20i B48. Change spark plugs every 30-35kkm and use a 5W40 oil that inhibits LSPI (low-speed preignition) which occurs in high boost high compression ratio environments and the 20i will serve you many years.

2.0L 4cyls turbo and 135kw is very low power? is this petrol or diesal? Toyota GT86 has 147kw on 2.0L 4cyls N/A

This car is not a "sports" car, 184hp is decent for a daily, if you dont plan on doing 240 on autobahn, its plenty enough for overtaking anything in legal limits... for this price you can get and tune a 335i for 400whp if you want a ticket...

Buy. We have a 3 and 5 series in the house. Both are fairly reliable. Fuel efficient but most importantly, it's fun and safe to drive

Only thing that puts me off is the engine, only 135kw from a 2L 4cyl. They should of at least make it have 160kw+.

Good points, all. It's not only about the power figure though. It's also about how the power is delivered, how direct and efficient it is. For example, a VW Passat with 'only' 140kW can do 0-100km/h within the 7.0-seconds range, as does this 320i, while a Subaru Outback 3.6R (to use your example [sort of]), with 191kW, only manages 8.1 seconds.
Obviously different cars are made for different purposes, but it's not always about the power, or the 0-100km/h time for that matter. Many cars out there 'feel' quick and exciting, and that's what really matters. In our opinion anyway.

+Daniel Vicaretti I guess it might come down to where bmw wanted the 320i positioned in the market place and indeed its own line up. And adding to what PdriveTV said the linearity of the 320is power delivery probably makes it a zippy enough car in day to day driving
Yep, torque is also very important. In the 320i peak is spread from 1350rpm all the way up to 4600rpm. That makes it feel much more grunty than the figures suggest.
It's worth noting the Lexus IS200t with its 180kW 2.0L turbo manages 7.61 seconds. In other words, we think the performance is probably the last thing anybody should be worried about with this car. The pricing and options are perhaps more worrying :)
Disappointing performance. My 2004 opel astra coupe with 108kw no turbo goes from 0-100 in 8 sec...
Béla Bakó my 1.6 naturally aspirated suzuki swift sport with 92kw does it in 8.5s..
It’s a car for efficiency and comfort. That’s why they have the 330i, the 340i and the M3.
