Just remember, in the not so distant past, TCU, BYU, and Utah were Mountain West schools as well. Like them, and with more financial resources, the new member of the PAC12 will step up their game. Once the dust has settled, I'd love to see the PAC12 add Gonzaga for basketball.
Honestly, this was an extremely thoughtful analysis from Gonzaga's point of view. I don't share Gonzaga's point of view, but I still learned many interesting facts. I salute you!
Gonzaga and St. Marys would be great basketball additions to the PAC 12. Adding them both would make the PAC 12 one the top conferences in basketball. SDSU has built up the credibility to rival Gonzaga as the top basketball program in the west. The past season was considered a rebuilding program for SDSU. SDSU declined the Big 12 because they would only get a 1/2 share. The SDSU AD stated this in an interview. Maybe it is not your intention but you come across elitist with Gonzaga. SDSU brings both a top basketball program and a respected football program and TV market, so Gonzaga is not above it even though it is a Mountain West school and future new PAC12 school.
Those rivalry games vs Oregon State, Washington State & Boise State would be great travel games for Zags fans, if they could be guaranteed to play home & home against those 3 teams every year, that would be far more intense than comparable match up in the other conferences. It would be nice for Zags fans who want to see the Zags in the road.
Oregon State's AD, who seems to be running all of this, was interviewed and when asked who they'd like to add they would be schools that have football.
Could be posturing. How could you actually turn down Gonzaga if you’ve got the chance the and the money makes sense? And if they need a partner, bring on St Mary’s.
@@aBrewster29 Maybe it's posturing. The Big East just signed a new deal for $7 million per school. I doubt the WCC is getting near what the MW is getting with football. Yes, some schools could be holding the WCC back regarding performance and market size. But Gonzaga is not elevating them either. That means adding a non football school to a conference focusing on bolstering it's football portfolio doesn't strengthen. There is no better basketball program West of Texas than Gonzaga. There are football moves unfortunately, not basketball moves.
Good analysis of the DI ever changing map. Like ranking icebergs for their size, always changing. Think Boise should get more positive comments, good FN and BB. The PAC ? questions CA and Stanford joins if and when the ACC falls apart. If they join PAC 12, then PAC 12 can add two more schools to go 10 FB and Gonzaga in BB makes a good sports conference. Better yet travel expenses are lower. Selling TV rights are great. Late BB games are intersting then. The pieces are still moving. We are at a start of iceberging,
We would consider adding St Mary's if Gonzaga wants us to. As a WSU Alumni, I've been loving the Rivalry with Gonzaga for 35 years, so I'm literally shaking in excitement, for the potential of Gonzaga joining ! If you Guys decide to join, would you want us to add St Mary's? I'd do it in a Heartbeat, if The Zags want us to. Cheers !!
After getting to 8 or 10 football schools (i would aim for Memphis, Tulane, UTSA or TxSU, and try for UNLV), then maybe add Gonzaga and St Mary's for only basketball. Pan American Conference. 10 fb teams, markets in Vegas, San Antonio, Memphis, San Diego. 3 schools in the Central Time Zone for tv exposure. If you want 12 for fb, maybe USF, but only if you bring a Birmingham or another school east of Memphis and Tulane (could be another Florida school like FAU or FIU). Basketball with Gonzaga and St Mary's would be great, with SDSU, Memphis, etc.
In regards to football Boise State is the best football program in the Mountain West but over the past decade SDSU has been in the top two or three teams in the conference. Talking about UNLV to the Big 12 is reactionary because they have not had success over the past decade, only recently.
The Pac-12 has to pay $43 million in poaching fees to the Mountain West. The four teams leaving the MWC have to pay $17 million each as exit fees, so $68 million total. I'm not sure how much of the exit fees will be covered by the Pac-12 and how much will actually be paid by the four teams. My guess is it will be split in some way.
Forget the PAC 12 for now. Just wait and see for at least 2 years. Merger talk makes Gonzaga look like desperate to move anywhere . Just concentrate on improving the team to achieve a National Championship!
The PAC12 is basically a group of 6 conference now. Sadly, they will never be a 'power" conference again...If they couldn't get a good media rights deal with USC, Oregon, etc...they definitely won't get one now.
Why do we want to join another G5/mid major league? That makes no sense! The Big 12 is the best baseball league in the country. Let’s not join a league of scrubs!!!
Poaching the top 4 programs of the MWC along with WSU and OSU makes it head and shoulders above the MWC. Sadly, the MWC looks more the the WAC (power wise) and the MWC. The aforementioned schools along with BYU, Utah, and TCU would have made the MWC into a power conference.

A conference with teams like Gonzaga, Memphis and San Diego St would be a heck of a good hoops conference.
SDSU vs Gonzaga twice a year would be awesome!

SDSU and Gonzaga together would be huge for PAC
Honestly, this was an extremely thoughtful analysis from Gonzaga's point of view. I don't share Gonzaga's point of view, but I still learned many interesting facts. I salute you!

Love that Gonzaga football team! I hear they are undefeated this year. 😂

The PAC 12 is just another G5 league. Let’s stay where we are UNLESS we can get a Big 12 invite.

If Pac-12 gets Memphis, Duke, UNC then Gonzaga would make them a top basketball conference.
Even in this alternate timeline, never happening.
😂
All of this conference realignment has NOTHING to do with basketball. Football is where the money is!
I think the Pac 🤔 should being in Gonzaga Zags and USF UNLV.

The B12 has told us to hang tight since 2016. Don't buy it. Come to the PAC with us and we can start our rivalry back up,

If they took one more school that would have brought MWC below 8 which is required to be a FBS conference.

The PAC does want UNLV without Reno and the state of Nevada is gonna make it hard for them

Talking about UNLV to the Big 12 is reactionary because they have not had success over the past decade, only recently.
Unlv would have been the 5th team but the state of Nevada is saying that unlv and Reno can’t be in separate leagues

Standford and Cal aren't coming back. They'd go independent before being in a conference with the four incoming Pac schools.
Just for your knowledge, Cal and Stanford both agreed to accept SDSU before the conference imploded. So your information is not accurate.
Stanford and Cal left in desperation. They'll be back as soon as they're legally able to.
How can Gonzaga help a football conference.
UNLV is going to the Big (can't count past) 12.
I say extend basketball invitations to Gonzaga and Grand Canyon
Not sure what Fresno and CSU bring to the table....
Fresno consistently the second best football program in mw. Csu has big money
Forget the PAC 12 for now. Just wait and see for at least 2 years. Merger talk makes Gonzaga look like desperate to move anywhere . Just concentrate on improving the team to achieve a National Championship!
No way in hell pac-#? invites St. Mary’s.
If not for the devil's foosball.
The pac-12 isnt taking st marys... 0% chance

The Pac12 is back in name only. It’s barely a step above the MAC
Just as it is on paper already the best G5 conference

haha! The Prog 12 has become the Mountain West.
Forget the PAC 12 for now. Just wait and see for at least 2 years. Merger talk makes Gonzaga look like desperate to move anywhere . Just concentrate on improving the team to achieve a National Championship!
The pac and mwc won’t merge
