    Every video on avocado trees says well drained soil and don't allow roots to stay wet. Before ever researching it I planted my seedling that way and it grew about one foot the first year. I transplanted it into a weeping bucket system, ( water reservoir with sand casing below the potting soil plant root system), after the summer of the second year my tree is 6 feet tall. No BS. Would never deliberately contradict any grower who has more information that myself but felt this was worth sharing. Unbelievable Results !

      Any good video links with this weeping bucket system?
      Thanks

      He said it's a Mexican variety.

      Right an issue of semantics, I would change my word "variety" to "cultivar" then. Nevertheless a great discovery

    With the 3 feet of mulch around the tree covers the root ball? Literally bury the tree with mulch? No issues with the trunk rotting?

    Fighting the wind to hear was difficult. Seemed like foam around the microphone would have been better. Cell phone microphone , gee we could not tell.
    Good info though and appreciate all the effort.

    Golly, Jakes sounds like he's interrogating this poor man with his rapid fire questions. Look at his body language! Maybe, he just wanted to get the hell out of there. Jake! No coffee before you make these videos! :- l

      @VeganAthlete  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      paintur68 I did want to get the hell out of there it was f’ing freezing! The temperature dropped like 20° in a couple hours I didn’t have any warm clothes I was literally shaking and getting hypothermia the entire time! Also don’t forget that I’m coming into Doug and Shamus’s world and they are really busy doing a lot of work. That means that I get right to the point I don’t have time to waste their time! They’re being gracious being on camera with me at all… So take what you can get

    Did you also grow new trees from the original tree from seed? Otherwise the grafted trees wont be as cold hardy as the mother plant..

    Excellent video! How large (width and height) do the avocado trees shown in the background grow up to be? Does he sell dwarf versions of the same tree?

    • @DavidOwenCreates

      Joe Espinosa I believe you can keep them shorter by simply pruning them often.

    How can a avocado be anything but Mexican.The origin of all avocados is Mexico.

  • @fromafarawayplace
    @fromafarawayplace 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So you discover an old hardy variety and choose not to grow from it's seed - to spawn an even hardier, adapted, evolved avocado.. instead you graft to another type and pretend it's got anything to do with the mother tree... Obviously this was originally grown from seed, otherwise it wouldn't have adapted so well.... Lost people.
