Big guys tend to be less technical unless they consciously work on it, most of them get higher belts due to they can easiy beat people in the gym, the moment they run into some one they cant smash , they lost
This is a perfect example of the limitations of bjj and why you should train all areas of martial arts. This video will give some people the impression that someone that small can beat someone 2-3 times his size in a fight. While it might theoretically be possible its not realistic. In an actual fight the big guy could pick the little guy up and slam him on the ground with ease. You saw how the little dude couldn't take big down and big wasn't even being aggressive. Now Imagine biggie was throwing haymakers with a foot of reach advantage. Its cool that bjj levels the playing field to some extent within bjj as a sport but its a very different ballgame in real life.
A key thing the smaller guy did well, is he did not try to full mount the big dude once he got on top. He also didn’t attempt full “100 kilos” side control on him. He apparently has enough experience against bigger/stronger opponents to know that they will just bump and bench press him off. Instead, once he had a somewhat dominant position and was able to move, he just held on for the ride and went for the choke at first opportunity. I’m also glad he did not attempt that Kimura from his back. Big guy would’ve most likely just smashed down harder and muscled out of it. As a small grappler, it’s just as as important to learn what generally does NOT work for your game against bigger/stronger opponents.
I think they were on opposite brackets and the brackets were likely divided up half under a certain weight and half over that weight. Gives the lighter guy a chance. Being in shape is still part of it.

@dick cickle he definitely has some weight he could lose. Speaking from personal experience, I am someone who did striking forms of martial arts when younger, took a break for a few years & now in BJJ, although I am one of the strong white belts, its super annoying & very inconvenient to be carrying the small belly I have while trying to move. My flexibility is on point, but being rolled up sucks because the small fat pushed inward makes it harder to breathe than if I were thin & I also cant extend my leg as high up if necessary when that small bit of belly is there too. Just those 2 inches could sometimes make all the difference in the world on a move, but that little roll gets in the way. Contrast that to my flat ab, striking days & I could kick straight up & practically kiss my knee, zero issue.
@@cbrit6206 cool story bro Love it when white belts ,especially like TKD guys, add their perspective. The BJJ community thanks you. Now go out there and triangle a D1 American -they dont know subs.
It's quite clear that the bigger competitor didn't apply his weight, strength, or leverage on the smaller competitor. If the bigger competitor really wanted to, he could have smashed the smaller competitor very quickly and quite definitively. It took restraint for him not to smash and dominate and to focus purely on technique.
I'm a pesadissimo myself and I mean no disrespect with what I am about to say. I can see the big guy doesn't look too tired out, so I don't think that's why he's making so many technical errors. I've seen it quite often in competitions over the years (it's very prolific among white belts, but can happen to color belts as well). I think he is so used to being the biggest guy around that he didn't adapt well to a smaller guy who was strong enough to move with him. I noticed he looked like he was just trying to just sprawl and smash instead of breaking down the turtle properly. My opinion is that he is used to using his size in the gym, maybe even his instructor is a smaller guy too? Either way, he's suffering from being the big guy all the time and doesn't move properly because he probably doesn't have to in the gym if you get what I mean. Just a respectful opinion from a 6'1" 285lb brown belt who has been competing for a long time. It's even happened to me (thankfully I learned those lessons in the gym as opposed to tournaments though) when some of our advanced big guys left and I was the only big color belt there for several months.
Daba la impresión de que solo seguía el juego, pero que si se lo propusiera haría volar a su adversario por los aires sin mucho esfuerzo! Mucha diferencia de peso y tamaño, pero siempre es buen entrenamiento para ambos! 😊
This is what happens when you don't condition yourself to be functional when you are big. My sumo sensei used to tell me Heavyweights are lazy and they rely on technique while just laying on you with your weight. You can tell the heavyweight was getting tired. I rolled only a few times, but Jiu-jitsu is my next discipline I will do. I am a heavyweight, but functional and I am extremely comfortable on my back. Size doesn't mean anything when the skill is equal or when one has more skill. In this match, David got Goliath. Bravoooooooo.
I don't think so man. It's not as easy as you might think to just destroy a purple belt. That guy has spend a significant portion of his life getting smashed by bigger people in order to learn how to not let that happen. I'm also not sure why a big guy would go easy in a tournament.
Some have a killer mentality some don’t , big man didn’t want to hurt little man, too passive. Use that weight against him. Use your strength, cross face the crap out of him, dig those elbows into the flesh, go full power, nope; a gentle giant.
Honestly, I always hated being coached during a match. Trying to figure out what someone is saying to you is just one more thing you have to devote brainpower to while you’re fighting for your life.
This seems to be the absolute Gi, which is usually after Gi and no gi. And I'm not sure the big guy was really trying. He never put his weight on him. I'm not sure how the kid jumped from purple to black so fast.
Big guy gassed out big time. I've bee there. Your mind stops working and you can't mive at all. But yes, he got that purple belt a little to fast. Should have stayed in blue a little longer. Purples should be trouble even to black belts, where i come from. Congrats to the little guy anyway. Not easy to fight someone so big.
That was a great chess match. Goes to show you, size has nothing on technique. Jujitsu is a great art for ground fighting and one on one. I believe a person needs stand up fighting skill as well. Especially dealing with more than one fighter.
@@jameslloyd7915 ya for sure, they can both learn. Can tell big guy just is use to folding dudes with his weight and getting away without using technique. Little guy was a real purple belt but did not setup those shots well.
Ok, Something is Clearly off with this whole thing that big guy looked so Timid like he has never even Rolled before let alone enter a comp so he is either Extremely inexperienced, Was for Some reason taking it easy, or was Completely Gassed before that match started I mean I know it is awkward as hell going against such a smaller opponent especially with how they can curl up into the tightest ball ever and you can't grab a freaking limb or neck lol. I mean this guy Didn't even use his size at all well he did a bit with his Sprawls but he looked like he was afraid to hurt the kid or something with how he was moving but maybe he was trying to use just BJJ Technique and not Brute force in which case I applaud him. But so many factors come in to play Biggest one being that little guy was Awesome
That big guy was either completely incompetent or just so exhausted from previous matches that he could barely function. Among other things, he repeatedly failed to cross-face and whizzer when the little guy shot underneath him. And he also wasn't sagging into his hips and making the little guy carry his weight.
Easier said than done especially since he is going against a trained opponent. Not to mention that he would also need to be ridiculously strong to be able to rag doll his opponent. Plus slams are probably banned in this sport.
It is a shame to get submitted by a small beta guy. I was only 80 kg fresh new belt and surviving a 60kg blsck belt. You have to be a beta male to lose against a much smaller opponent.
Not all heavyweights are lazy. If you are going to be big, you need to be functional like a puffy python in my opinion. I will make sure my functionality and cardio as a heavyweight will be " above to par" when I find "my home" when I start training in Jiu-jitsu.
In no way am I trying to take away from the beast that the small guy is but... as a bigger guy I feel like I’d be in an awkward position going against someone half my size. I’d wanna keep my obvious advantage outta the equation because it would feel, for lack of a better term, dishonorable. That being said I feel like I’d be inclined to take it easy thus leading to my downfall which if I’m being honest is what seems like happened. Seems like he was holding back especially a purple belt (if indeed he earned it) vs a purple belt. Might’ve also been that because of this logic he underestimated small dudes ability. But those are just my thoughts.

Agreed seems like he really didn't know anything
Now go out there and triangle a D1 American -they dont know subs.
that was one out of shape purple belt. honestly deranking needs to be a thing.
It's quite clear that the bigger competitor didn't apply his weight, strength, or leverage on the smaller competitor. If the bigger competitor really wanted to, he could have smashed the smaller competitor very quickly and quite definitively. It took restraint for him not to smash and dominate and to focus purely on technique.
the big guy was being as gentle as he could from what I saw.
I was about to say something relating the size difference with some microadjusting sneaky stuff ...
But nevermind 😒🤙🏼✌🏼
that collar tie after they got standing again was PERSONAL lmaoooo
All I’m gonna say is ankle picks and cradles are just right there.
The heavy weight was holding back!
The big one was just playing with him, but respect. To both. To the small one, to enter, and to big one to play the game. Respect one more time.
Eso mismo, el grandote solo le seguía el juego, lo pero si quisiera podía hacer que el chiquito saliera volando por el aire!
Yes, this.
Copium.
I don't think so man. It's not as easy as you might think to just destroy a purple belt. That guy has spend a significant portion of his life getting smashed by bigger people in order to learn how to not let that happen. I'm also not sure why a big guy would go easy in a tournament.
😂
Some have a killer mentality some don’t , big man didn’t want to hurt little man, too passive. Use that weight against him. Use your strength, cross face the crap out of him, dig those elbows into the flesh, go full power, nope; a gentle giant.
I like the fact that the big guy was being coached all match long and he still lost.
What did they say? I thought the smaller purple belt was being coached.
@@1x1HealthyEnergybyAndrew I’m quite sure it was the big guy being coached.
Honestly, I always hated being coached during a match. Trying to figure out what someone is saying to you is just one more thing you have to devote brainpower to while you’re fighting for your life.
Felt like the coach would be more of a hindrance. He almost never seemed to take the advice anyway lol
The entire time I was thinking shut the F up
Never give up keep doing what you know you can do and win the battle !...
This seems to be the absolute Gi, which is usually after Gi and no gi. And I'm not sure the big guy was really trying. He never put his weight on him. I'm not sure how the kid jumped from purple to black so fast.
The big guys team soon stopped coaching him when his back hit that Matt😂
Why is the big guy fighting like he’s a scared newbie ?
Inexperienced
@@paulcenacette3356 inexperienced purple belt.. one of these things is true, the other is not lol
That's how we lil guys do it!!!
Este was my trainer for a minute - complete beast!
The big guy have the IQ of rock.
“ He got you Hulk. It was almost over Hulk. Hulk…Hulk…Hulk”
Big guy definitely needs some cardio.
But so many factors come in to play Biggest one being that little guy was Awesome
can someone tell me what that submissions is? Can't see clearly, guessing some sort of lapel choke
Couldn’t see but it kinda looked like a lapel choke

shout outs to Icy "I'd rather give up 50 pounds in kickboxing than jiujitsu" Mike
That big guy was either completely incompetent or just so exhausted from previous matches that he could barely function. Among other things, he repeatedly failed to cross-face and whizzer when the little guy shot underneath him. And he also wasn't sagging into his hips and making the little guy carry his weight.
@@ScottLongwellR always these experts in comments
It's true though, size is much more important in BJJ than kickboxing.
Props to bigger guy for going straight technical and not throwing dude around the city
Easier said than done especially since he is going against a trained opponent. Not to mention that he would also need to be ridiculously strong to be able to rag doll his opponent. Plus slams are probably banned in this sport.
It was a good match. They were both game. There is no shame in either one of their performances. 🤘🏽
only 5 7's?
It is a shame to get submitted by a small beta guy. I was only 80 kg fresh new belt and surviving a 60kg blsck belt. You have to be a beta male to lose against a much smaller opponent.
Bro what are you a woman, being smaller/shorter doesn’t make you any less of a man
Who gave this guy a purple belt
1:42 this is cool and all, but right here, dude could technically just stand up and spike little dude into the floor a couple times till he was dead
@elek Technically no he couldnt. Thats against the rules in tournaments like this. In a street fight yes.
Jiu jitsu making wrestling mistakes, Wrestling A pex predator. You don't let your opponent up once you're on the ground.
Hulk is a black belt in eating pizza and drinking beer! 🥋🍺
Guy is screaming instructions to a monster in the biggest offsided match that ever went down.
title should read "heavyweight gasses out vs more fit youngster"..
Not all heavyweights are lazy. If you are going to be big, you need to be functional like a puffy python in my opinion. I will make sure my functionality and cardio as a heavyweight will be " above to par" when I find "my home" when I start training in Jiu-jitsu.
No he got choked!
Огромное уважение большому борцу в чёрном. Он легко мог сломать маленького мальчика, но позволил ему показать свое мастерство.
05:11 Beautiful job man!
If that’s not a perfect demo of the power of jiu jitsu idk what is. Big guy looked very fatigued. Makes me wonder how many matches he had that day or if that purple was suspect. Coach sounded like a clown too.
what was the submission i couldnt see it im assuming americana
@@jameswjackson it was a lapel choke. You can see his lapel is near big dudes face and he uses it to choke him. Passes over the head to apply more pressure.
Power of jj? If you put a small golden gloves boxee in against a big know-nothing amateur then the big guy will get ktfo. This is not an example of the power of bjj but of the degradation and corruption of bjj belts.
@@antondelacruz9362 You could be right. Or you could be coming to your own conclusion with no context. We have no idea where this day started. If you’re familiar with jj competitions you’re aware that sometimes there are injuries to other competitors or just passes to the semis or finals based on less competitors in the bracket. We have no idea if this big dude had 3 matches prior and this guy went straight to semi’s or whatever. I’m just saying you’re aggressively asserting an opinion with no facts, unless of course you were there. In that case good for you. If that’s not the case, relax. And to your point, based on the coach I hear talking, sounds like this HW purple belt may not actually be a purple belt, which is not his fault. And he’s out of shape af.
@@shuflbeats smh if you agree that hes not a valid purple belt then once again your original statement is incorrect and this is an example of a skills gap, not the power of bjj.
Everything else in your comment is pure hypocrisy and self aggrandizing nonsense.
What kind of submission was it? I couldn't see it.
I am especially fond of the winners walk off. Outstanding!
I am flabbergasted that when the big guy sprawled on the little guy he didn't get a front headlock and end the match.

This should be the top comment. Thanks man!
Thanks alot 🔥was scrolling through the comments just looking for that info
It looked like a baseball choke to me. Especially, when the little guy anchored his head to the ground to prevent the big guy from moving.
I’ve talked to bigger guys that wrestle much smaller people and they say 99 percent of the time they are more worried about injuring them then submitting them. Got me thinking
The big guy just got tired if he was punching and kicking he would have won
That's the whole point in jiu jitsu you don't want to trade punches and kicks. You use technique and skill to defeat him.
We need more weight classes
Damn, a lot of keyboard warriors in the comments section for this one.
Or ya know, people who practice bjj and can see that the big guy shouldn’t have his belt.
I only know a little about BJJ ,but should the big guy keep his knees off the matt to apply max pressure to the bottom guy? If so why doesn't a purple belt know this?
That is something you can’t train for and that is heart. Great job kid!!!
The big guy was playing along. He could have put the little guy through the wall at any time if he had chosen to.
"Rooster weight" that's so disrespectful. Might as well be "your light ass ain't shit"
Is that big dude really a purple belt? Or am I missing something here?

DumbA$%. Rooster weight is a standard weight, like Bantam weight in boxing. Bantam is a type of rooster which is why it is called Bantam weight.
Dude got his purple belt from Amazon
BS. I'm not buying it. Arranged match. Big dude can just lift him off the ground even when the kid is on top of him, no way 70 pounds can hold down a grown man, let alone a purple JJ belt. I call BS! Nice acting.
If they where in the octagon the little fella would get crushed.
This is a perfect way for the little dude to pop some disks
