      @@JordanTeachesJiujitsu I'd say he's got a long list of people he's pulled that on. Also I love that it's a sweeping shot, head inside. I used that a lot in wrestling myself and transfers to bjj well keeping the neck out of play and puts you directly in side control 👊

  • @josephbreza-grappling9459
    @josephbreza-grappling9459 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Your wrestling is definitely coming along. I wouldn’t worry so much about any mistakes that you made, because mistakes are magnified against someone that much bigger than you-especially since he knows what he is doing too. Weight classes matter, 😂😂
    Your technique on that stiff arm single was good, but his stance was too good for it at that time. When you pushed, the weight was distributed to his legs instead of his lower back. That is why stance is so important. The time to hit that would have been when he stood upright, but you followed him and he took advantage of that.
    If anyone wants an idea of how athletic that dude was, then look no further than his double leg. That was incredible for someone so big.

    So I was 312lbs when I started BJJ. I carried it *VERY* well, was inhumanly strong and had an incredible gas tank. The problem with rolling at this weight is literally all of the techniques need mild to moderate modification to account for your size, and that’s both attacking and being attacked. Another issue, and truthfully the biggest issue, is no matter how good your gas tank is, you require so much oxygen to feed those muscles buried under your fat, and your muscles are working to carry all that fat too. It’s great if you can stay on top but once you end up on your back it’s hellish.
    I’m 251lbs now and I’m in the gym three times a week. Being strong and lean is *LITERAL LEAGUES* better than being strong and fat for BJJ.

    • @michaelnurge1652
      @michaelnurge1652 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm with you. I started BJJ at nearly 350 # and I'm currently down to about 280 # give or take 5#. I'm 6'4" and never had much of a gut, but it's a lot better now than then.
      I'm at the gym 4-6 days a week. If your core and flexibility is decent, being on your back isn't that bad even if you're nearly 300 #. I'm the heaviest person in the gym and one of the most flexible as well, which shocks nearly everyone. Reflexes are a little different to sustained speed, and mine are fairly fast...though there are limits. I've seen openings before I simply couldn't exploit because I couldn't get there in time because I'm limited by the geometry of my build.
      My core isn't quite where I want it but it's way better than it once was, and my cardio is improving as well. I can still do the splits, and I go all the way to the ground for a lot of the warmup stretches, and it still amazes some people.
      Pick up a weight, I'm the strongest in my gym, but there's so much more to it than that. I can do real pushups now but I still do mostly knee ones because I can't keep up with the cadence otherwise. My technical standup is just kind of weak and I can't do some of the agility stuff we run through. I can do way more than you think, but there are still limits. I'm the slowest runner of all of us; even if my knees were better I probably would still be nearly this slow. Jiu jitsu wise I'm probably not the strongest, though my grip has improved and the effectiveness of my grips has improved as well over the last almost 2 years.
      Anyways, you have some moments like when the second-heaviest guy could lock closed guard around me for the first time...definitely a mixed blessing because my waist is smaller now than it once was and so maybe not as easy to try to pass guard against some people, but I'll definitely take it. Definitely a mixed blessing; people still don't want to roll against you sometimes or you'll just maybe work positions or whatever with some others if the size disparity is too much, and of course finding gear is only just now being a bit easier than it once was.

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really because it would increase the risk of him bridging into me as I'd have less control over his head. Also not sure I'd be able to tap him with it with him having big strong arms. It can be a great option sometimes but not agaisnt Tyler here 🙂

      Thanks man! Sometimes people think i only film rolls with low skilled guys to look good lol. But I've had a bunch of really good grapplers on the channel and Tyler's a great example.

    Great roll, dude. I wish I had ten people this size to practice with, my game would be outrageous. 💪🏽
    7:30 - I've revently been having success by abandoning trying to put in hooks against a guy this big, especially if I want the choke. I'm all about the seatbelt and head-to-head control with the shoulder under the back of the head to try to get the RNC (1:39 in this video - th-cam.com/video/RVV6vkDOgR8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=I0_LFFIz3ESLVH1f - Mike isn't a huge guy, but this is what I mean).

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely! I often try to just take mount on big guys instead. Too much weight to carry on top of you on their back.

    For that guy's size you need a John Smith low single, works amazing on massive guys, attacking hips and shoulders of a guys that size is no bueno

    Man Jordan your videos are getting better and better. The amount of things I learnt within this 11 minutes is more than I would in 11 hours of training.
    Please keep on incorporating the visuals as they helped me greatly to pay attention to the details.

    This was a great video. So often big guys get the short end of the stick when people post rolling videos. That guy is solid and as a big dude I love to see you guys train again. Thanks for all the information you put out🤙🏾

    Amazing video. I need to definitely prioritize my grips and and learn to get my hips in the right place like you always manage to do. Usually when i over commit and over extend, it's a wrap and in trapped in something. The bigger guys I roll with have many years under their belt and always seem to be a few steps ahead of me. I usually never get any offense off... rather I'm defending my ass off.

    Dam I’m like 6’2 and 315 built similar to that dude with probably 15% less on my torso. I always felt I got too fat to get into jujitsu even though I’m strong as a bull. And I’m not talking shit about that dude in no way he would strangle me to death but it was inspiring to see and definitely shows you better not judge somebody by their appearance

    I do that 1 arm Kimura from the back all the time. IMHO it’s higher percentage than rear naked choke. People defend the choke all the time. They don’t see the kimura coming.

    The scary part about someone so heavy like that is that in a situation like the 4:00 mark, is he can just posture up, not even to a full standing position, but just enough to fall backwards with a modicum of force, and fall on you knocking the wind out of you best case scenario. This is only of course if you aren’t quick enough to let go and slide to the side. The point I’m making is that people as big as him both weight, and height wise are scary in general even if they are untrained. The fact that he’s trained, and moves better than many people 100lbs lighter is even fookin scarier.
