My mom grew up in East Pilsen during that time and I can only imagine what it was like. These videos give me another glimpse into that world. Thank you for sharing
Lived on 18th and Leavitt during the pandemic because my job shot out of 55 on the expressway. Shit was tense when I lived there. Gentrification was happening, old-school Mexican families who have been there for decades maintaining, great local businesses, amazing food, rich culture, but the street life is real and omnipresent. Cats from Lawndale driving through in Range Rovers, gun play nightly, and Satan's Disciples posting up on corners. Shit was too wild for me. I moved.
Late 60's early 70's thats exactly what it was about....I went to cooper upper grade...saw a kid get stabbed to death in the lunchroom....tough school...Mr McClean was the toughest teacher in that school no nonsense with him
Damn RIP dead eye he used to talk to me when i was a shorty, we were actually talking about him yesterday. Some of the shit he taught me saved my life in the county
Knew a lot of these catz. They used to hang out by jerfferson pk. I remember one of them lived on Jefferson. Knew Speedy and his krazy brothers and they was PR. Seen Speedy one time a longggggg time ago. Thes3 dudes where at war with the Ambrose and Villa Lobos from 18th and Throop back in th3m days.
I never knew much about these guys and appreciate seeing the interview. Too bad they didn’t show more of their murals/tags. I have heard that when they shutdown, some flipped 26.
Speedys was on 19th and wood and these kids are being interviewed in Bishops hood not Ambrose it’s either 19th or 17th st I know Deadeye personally RIP The 15 year old kid with all the slick answers
As a Puerto Rican kid who was born and raised in southern California with all Mexican homeboys... coming up under that SURENO way of living...and naturally adapting to how the south siders do things.. IT WASN'T UNTIL ABOUT A DECADE AGO.. that i knew other Latino clickas from other states even existed. And learning about the long history of Latino gangs in Chicago WAS/IS A TRIP. It's crazy that we both gang bang ...but y'all in Chicago OPERATE ENTIRELY DIFFERENT THAN US.. IT'S JUST A TRIP....seeing other Latino gangs Who look like us... have the same racial makeup but act completely different culturally as far as the streets go.
Yeah. Us Chicago dudes be looking at y'all the same way. It's like when I went out there and met some good Cali dudes, how we both rotate is like night and day.
I'm Mexican from Chicago, a lot of Mexicans' and Puerto Ricans in the same gangs out there...I actually go back and forth between L.A. and Chicago...the whole SoCal gang culture never appealed to me...different ways and culture. But both L.A. and Chicago have a deep gang culture.
The Rebels of Back Of The Yards and Ravens of 46th? Haven’t found any yet, I do know a lady who still has her fathers Rebels Jacket, and I personally own an old Ravens card. Do you remember the Muscaduddlers?
@westlove1226 that's was... my neighborhood in the back 90's, and they always... talking about them rebels were very crazy because in the neighborhood there were a two older brothers that who were a cherry busters.but The only one's that I remember are the wood boys and the paulina boys also the 49 boys, but that's very cool with the those cards because that's a Chicago history, what about the almighty popes from south side, or the other one Cavaliers there's anything about them a video brother???
@westlove1226 No brother... they are all from back of yards neighborhood the paulina boys and the wood boys they both had to became part of Saints, and 49 boys became to the LA Raza Cavaliers they were rivals to the Rebels. The only one that's not from the neighborhood is the south side popes from the archer heights neighborhood!!!

My friend Angel grew up on 18 and Morgan. Block away. Cool neighborhood. Now it’s Gentrified. Sad.
I never knew much about these guys and appreciate seeing the interview. Too bad they didn’t show more of their murals/tags. I have heard that when they shutdown, some flipped 26.
They tagged up in the early 80s by 38th and Spaulding, I'm not sure if they flipped 26 though. They were around and overnight they were gone.
My mom and uncles grew up in East Pilsen during their run, and shared that a few of the more active KG members became 2-6.
Wow I remember all those people from cooper crazy times before they joined the gang life just hanging around!
Crazy cause I know kids in the neighborhood now a days just like dead eye even tho the neighborhood way better it’s a never ending cycle
Damn straight Chicago s#!+...
I know you're going to get a king papo interview. Keep up the good work...
King Papo is dead bro… he was killed by his own in the 1970’s, you probably mean I will get a David Ayala or a Lord Gino interview😁
I know he passed away... I mean you will get a older interview about him... Keep the faith... Amo...

I realize they're not all like that but a sociologist can best answer on why do some Hispanic youth gravitate towards gang culture?
Machismo.
Living in poverty without the foresight of a better life
Same reason why white youth started gangs in the 40s. After all, they were the first ones
@@xxmayhemxx6662Exactly!
If that sociologist isn’t from the hood he don’t know nothing.
