With the science-backed techniques in this PDF, you can quickly catapult your focus into a singular pursuit by achieving a month’s worth of work in less than a day.

I'm extremely appreciating these advices tonight Rian.
I love the concept that you shared about the apples and compounding focus. It instantly made me consider the areas and places where I am dispersing my own focus. So tonight I'm going to take a minute to sit down and ponder over my apple trees and what that would look like in my startup.
As always I truly appreciate your work and I'm hoping you the best in your life, family, and endeavors.

      Great video!
It’s also worth noting that many entities-people but also large, old companies-get stuck in the exploitation phase. They find something that is working and then stop, even become hostile to, exploring, which opens them up to the risk of disruption or worse motivates them to squash the exploration of competitors.
This is a different problem, not totally relevant to your area of research, but related.

    Notes:
1️⃣ Flow state over and over builds speed, speed builds momentum, momentum builds exponential growth until escape velocity
2️⃣ Dispersion is Procrastination older brother
3️⃣ Dopamine is a means to an end, not the end all be all..
4️⃣ The goal is not just more dopamine, the goal is build speed to hit escape velocity and build resources
5️⃣ Dopamine leads to action > Flow state action x 2 weeks leads momentum... x 8 weeks leads to escape velocity

    Fascinating and enlightening stuff.
Towards the end, you said something that suddenly explained to me why the Conservative government in the UK destroyed itself. I think the politicians made the mistake of seeking their dopamine hits in their job. Instead of focussing on the mundane project of running the country, they sought to jazz things up with non-primary-pursuit side-adventures such as Brexit, premature elections, attacks on the judiciary and the constitution, high-risk economic gambles, leader swapping, culture-war inciting, etc. All they needed to do was run the country in a dull, undramatic manner, and the inherited economic recovery post-2008 would surely have compounded inexorably.

What would I choose to exploit this week?..
Been two weeks pushing my mind, problem solving a-level mathematics exercises. It's getting quite bland just solving and solving, pen on paper, mindlessly following guided steps. I feel visualizing the equations on a graphing software is a good way to exploit instead of having to determine what could be right or wrong on paper. Test out more variables on software, play with it, and re-learn concepts that I'm weak at. Doesn't sound impressive but I believe that's the best exploitation within study goals.
Excellent video packed with so much value! Avoiding attention dispersion was and still is my no 1 priority starting new year. Coincidentally your first 2024 video happens to talk about that LOL! Also, the video looks refreshing with bits of storytelling embedded in between :) I'll admit I was that loser dog too.

here are my thoughts on how to counter Dispersion. As a person with Congenital Cerebral Palsy one of the things that you recognize early is that there are muscle related preconditions that have to be met just to play the game, and those are hyper spastic states, and hyper tonality. Hyper Spastic states are the muscle movement and placement of said muscles, these can be clinically observed as tremors, and hyper Tonality refers to the rigidity of said muscles,
One of those muscle groups is my whole left arm, and because of those preconditions i have limited movement but that is a strong saving grace, because i naturally DONT have the ability to fully extend my left arm at all, so i am naturally inclined to only take on the very biggest single opportunities one challenge at a time, and that is the lesson here take on challenges one at a time. for me my challenge Road is this , currently i am an MBA Student so i NEED to finish strong, then do a city transfer to start working on a PhD in Sociology , a process i expect to take about 4-5 years but when done i will have the Accreditation to start teaching Sociology/english and related fields, guiding future students along the path i am on right now, and build a body of teaching knowledge along the way, that body of knowledge itself can be used to build an online teaching presence whose primary responsibility is to facilitate a connection with the brightest industry professionals on a path that will end up with the Humble DarkStar entering into low orbit, and held there for 3 days, the most physically demanding whole body challenge a person living with different abilities can come up with.
if it helps just remember this story was written while my left wrist is ALSO recovering from a fracture, so all of this was on the back of one hand.
    - Best Wishes,
    The Humble DarkStar

I would love formyou to do a series on how this applies to parents (specifically moms or single parent families) who often have to split focus with kids. Especially with the rise of work-from-home and the feeling like if we’re on a break from work focus we should be doing home-focus. A lot do the “monk mode” and flow focus suggestions just aren’t readable when you have small humans who need you. How do these get modified - saying you can’t guarantee a full nights sleep bc your kiddo can’t sleep through the night (and this persists beyond babies! My 4yo still wakes up every night!). How do we manage hyper focus for women who have been mentally trained to do multiple things at once? I’m curious if there’s a true gap in the research.

As a programmer working on a game engine who has 12,000 dollars worth of plexiglass and mechanical patents...
This video expresses exactly what I've been thinking...
I took my 12,000 dollars worth of plexiglass and sold it all for 300 dollars .
And I am abandoning my mechanical patent application .
    Why ?
Because why fabricating stuff at a machine shop is fun and I could make money doing it...
If I am going to get rich doing something, I need to decide between :
    A. Game Engine
    B. Modular Designer Furniture
And I decided Game Engine because it is cheaper to write code ( keep your body alive )
than it is to make physical products ( warehouse space , patent maintenance , machine shop rental , materials )

Basically don’t focus too much on multiple things at once. Try to focus on one thing to build it up and get it done and then move more attention to the next one.

This is what I needed to hear. I now know that I need to choose one boat. With multiple boats already in the water, can the focus problem be solved with effective delegation?

As someone who has faced dispersion for over 7 years, what can I do to undo all that it's done to me and start climbing in popularity?

Amazing content! I've been suffering from dispersion which I didn't know there was term for. Thank you for providing context and a guide to overcome such a thing.
To ask a real specific question, would you consider running a business and building your own personal brand as two different pursuits?

I was wondering why i am not moving an inch but still feel like spending time only on my goals. I have been in this dispersion mode all this while, wasting time on something part of my list but i should not be doing right now.
Interestingly you pointed out my current mistake and also alerted how to move forward by explaining about removing unwanted workloads, even though i didn't reach that stage i realize it is as important as getting rid of dispersion.

While there are some good points in not spreading your attention too thin, I generally have some objections to the message in the video.
To diversify your interests is extremely important to increase your ability to tackle change. If you hang up your identity on just one thing, or in some too narrow area, you become very vulnerable to change. Putting all eggs in one basket is a huge risk and also easily creates anxiety and fear of the future. What if something happens to your only basket of eggs?
(This is a very important point in the book "Master of change" by Brad Stulberg)
Also, it has been scientifically proven that you see a huge increase of the score in intelligence tests for people trying to pursue multiple subjects.
The explanation seems to be that you then learn how the skill tree of knowledge is built in different subject which increases your overall IQ (See the book "Range" by David Epstein).
So overall diversifying your interests is really benificial, both for your overall intelligence and productivity, but also your happiness in the long run.
But of course there is a limit to everything, if you try to purse so many different things that you barely have any time for any of them, then it becomes a problem.

I really appreciate your content and the fact that you are willing to provide us with this invaluable knowledge. I just have a question regarding myself that currently i am focusing on becoming a programmer as my pursuit and my task is to complete the cs50 harward course i also have to complete my studies that are essential in college and i also have to try to improve my communication skills as they are essential for a programmer so i am currently giving attention to imp. My communication skills, my technical programming skills, my studies and calculus, all of these are things that are important and are directly related to my pursuit of becoming a programmer so should i keep focusing on all these skills or just drop them and focus on improving my techinal programming skills at a time then communication skills then studies for college

    • @qillerr_yt
      @qillerr_yt 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I'd apply the same technique as in the video
      "what is accelerating the ship"
just doing the CS50 course is probably not enough
go spend 1000 hours on it in 3 months, and remove the unnecessary things.
      1000 hours of actual effort
      that'd be my strategy
When it comes to communication skills
It's hard to tell your actual level from the message, but a junior developer doesn't need it that much.
On the other hand, if you have a lot of communication skills, some corporations might be compelled to pay you to learn coding on the job, because you can interact with business well.
a good GPA on a degree will probably help you with this strategy
as a person who's felt that had "bad communication skills" I've found that most of my "bad communication skills" came to lack of confidence
for me, looking very deeply into my past (with professional help, though a friend that's older and wiser would help probably too) is helping immensely
so, I've detached myself from technical people by going to a b-school; not sure if it's the correct choice but I was able to detach myself for the most part from my past
and I've come to understand that I'd have achieved almost the same thing, if not more by going to a technical university XD if I just fixed myself by removing my traumas...
and you can learn communication skills it on the job... once, you get it
In any way - choose one fast based on REASON (incl. reasonable approach to your real emotions)
But, I'm not the best adviser, I'm going through something similar

    • @suryanshsingh1578
      @suryanshsingh1578 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@qillerr_ytyeah looking back i've also found that my bad communication skills came from my lack of confidence in myself and my fear of judgement from people I've overcame my fear of judgement or atleast tried to do things even if I am afraid i am also focusing on putting more effort on the main concepts taught in CS50 and i'll try competitive programming after completing that course. These days i have a lot of time as my first sem in college just finished and I am putting most effort in improving my programming skills and completing the course but I also practice articulation, improve vocab daily even if it's for just half an hour as it gives me an opportunity to relax and also to not discard communication skills directly as i've come to know that communication skills not only help me in improving my chances of getting a job / internship but they are also important life skills and help me connect with people. I know that focusing on just one thing is important that's why I am focusing most of time on programming and then on other things like communication and studies related to college I know that the motive of video is to tell people to just focus on one thing but like really is it practical to just focus on one thing and discard everything else? .
