      Phil & Suzie Family Adventures you can do almost anything from a Kayak that you can from a boat. Part of the fun of owning a Kayak is setting it up. I will be posting a video of my setup soon. I can't wait for crabbing season to start. I've finally figured.

    thank you man! im setting up to start crabbing out of my hobie pa14 this year and ive seen so many videos on how to do it but none are strategy or things to conciser/adjust before the trip- with the h-rail system and having a fish finder on my right/ paddle mounted on my left h rail this def helped saved me a headache! look forward on the other videos on the topic of kayak crabbing. now i just need to find spots because im from pa lol

      You're welcome. I'm glad I could help. I've crabbed from a boat for several years, but kayak crabbing is slightly different. My setup now runs pretty good now. I still have to make a few minor tweaks. I'm making a video on my fixed setup, so if you have any questions, let me know and I will include the answers in the video. I actually have a couple of crabbing buddies that are from PA. Some of them drive all the way down to southern MD to catch crabs early in the season.

    • @ryguy11794
      @ryguy11794 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate it. My only questions really are how do you make your nets and what/where should i look for spots to drop trotlines because trotlines are new to me and finding crab spots is another thing im lost on

    • @TomyTekOutdoors
      @TomyTekOutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll show my nets in one of the videos. I put metal mesh on the back of my nets to prevent my snoods from getting caught in it. The baits just bounce right off. Without it, they sometimes get stuck and it can become a huge cluster you now what. You can apply the same concepts of fishing when you are looking for a spot. Just not as deep when running a trotline. I don't run my line deeper than 15'. I like to crab on drop offs close to creek mouths and points. Finding the right depth is key, but that comes with experimentation and having some crabbing buddies that share information. Check out crabbing forums as well. I'll mention depths and such in my future videos.

    Great videos man! New to Maryland and just got me a kayak wanted to start crabbing this coming season. Is it law to have a life jacked? And I've seen sometimes you have a flag up on ur kayaks, what's that for? Do you need a license for a recreational kayak? I'm up north near Aberdeen. Any help or advise would he great! Thanks man love ur videos

    • @TomyTekOutdoors
      @TomyTekOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the kind words. I enjoy making these videos to help people get out and enjoy the outdoors. It's recommended to wear a life jacket. I wear mine all the time, unless I forget to bring it. The flag is to help me be seen better by boats. I am sometimes in big water with a lot of boats around and want to make sure I'm seen, so I don't get hit. You need the appropriate licenses depending on where you plan to fish. You only have to register a kayak if you put a motor on the back. There is some good fishing around your area. Congrats on the new kayak. It's a lot of fun and great exercise. I'm glad to help, so feel free to ask questions. Thanks for watching.

      There were a lot of things I didn't consider when I set this up initially, so I thought this would help people learn from my mistakes. It took a bit of trial and error, but now I have it setup to my liking. Since this video, I've also ran a trotline on a 2019 Outback and now a Pro Angler 360. The 360 drive makes it a lot easier to maneuver. Thanks for watching.

      TomyTek Outdoors I’m in the market for a new kayak. Haven’t owned one in 10yrs. You would recommend the 360?

    • @TomyTekOutdoors
      @TomyTekOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HamptonRutland if it meets your budget and weight requirements, I would highly recommend it. It is the top of the line kayak right now and comes with a price. It is the most comfortable kayak I've ever been on. Maneuverability is insane. Demo one if you can and that will help you decide if that is really important to you. It was totally worth it for me.

      @TomyTekOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      😂🤣 That would be awesome. I wish blue crab could be the size of Dungeness. I would just need a couple instead of a few dozen to feed the fam. I think they are the best tasting crabs.

    • @MisfitsFiendClub138
      @MisfitsFiendClub138 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TomyTekOutdoors Agreed!
      Blue crab tastes way better than Dungeness. It's like a tradeoff, Dungeness more meat taste is good, Blue crab less meat taste is phenomenal. Some years when I was growing up on Long Island New York we would catch one pound each blue's by end of July and all of August. The word would get out faster than a bullet train. U could actually eat 3-4 of them and be full. Really miss those days

    Hi I love your videos. How do you think a leaded line would work out for a trot line?

    • @TomyTekOutdoors
      @TomyTekOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I've never used one myself. It should work as long as you can attach baits or snoods to it. If it tangles easily that could also be a problem. If it's heavier, that would be a concern for kayak crabbing, but not from a boat. If you do decide to use it, let me know how it works out for you. Thanks for watching.

      My first vessel was a canoe and I crabbed out of it with an electric trolling motor. I sold it way back, but got another one a few years ago. I just got a 2.5HP motor for my canoe. nice...how high above water do you recommend for prop stick?

    • @TomyTekOutdoors
      @TomyTekOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know the exact measurement. When I lean over to the side, it looks like it's about 2-3 inches, but the bottom edge does touch the water occasionally. You may have to experiment with this a little. It will vary depending on where it's mount on your kayak. I'm working on a video showing my prop stick in detail. I get a lot of questions about it. If there is anything you would like to see in the video, let me know.

      Thanks, Tommy. My prop is hanging horizontally straight out on inflatable boat which is about 1 foot above water....I am wondering if I should redesign it to drop lower closer to water like your design...thanks for all your videos....my 5 y.o son and I are beginners...we have learned a lot from watching you

    • @TomyTekOutdoors
      @TomyTekOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad to help. I have to start building another one for my canoe. If it's higher, the baits will come up at a different angle and you might have to be further forward to net crabs. You can try it and bring tools and materials to adjust it as needed on the fly. You might have to adjust it a few times to get it perfect.
