- Cover #111.. I uploaded the cover of 'Black Hole Sun' just last week and planned on giving you guys something else this week.. But due to the recent events, I really felt like just jamming out to a bunch of different Chris Cornell songs, and ended up deciding to share this one with you all, as a kind of tribute to Chris.
This is definitely one of my all-time favorite vocal performances. And overall such an amazing song. I didn't feel like playing everything exactly note-for-note, but rather just listen and let go and play what fit. However I did transcribe the whole song, so if you're interested in learning it note-for-note, check out the transcription:

The past few days have been a bit off. Chris' death is a huge loss to the world and the music scene. I'm grateful for all of the inspiration and what he's done for us all.

Audioslave is one of my favorite band. Chris one of my fav vocal. Brad helped me to learn to play the dumms. This song of Soundgarden bring the beautiful end powerfull Chris' voice. R.I.P C.C. (Sorry for my english - Brazil here)
His humility and amazing attitude in general. On stage, on interviews, he was just an amazing guy and so incredibly talented. May his soul rest in peace, we'll dearly miss him...
Getting the notes right is one thing but nailing Matt’s pocket is another. Both done superbly well
As always, knocked it out of the park, I live in Washington state, so I was right in the middle of the rise of grunge, I'm 50, so these guy's we're my age, and I definitely felt a kinship, I loved it

My favorite memory of Chris *the LEGEND* Cornell was his Sunshower song. So beautiful... and the lyrics brought me to tears! Just like your drumming does Max! You INSPIRE me to be a better drummer EVERY day I am on this planet!!!

All your drum videos are sick! But this one is a favorite. It's not just a fun groove, with that odd time signature. But those damn cymbals and hats you use just kill! I can't believe how fast they decay. The effect it has on the drum sound is just amazing!!

@@maxadrums does the dry cymbal vibe come from all the pits and dimples in the middle of the cymbal? Or do you use some type of dampening on the under side? I can't get over that splash with fast decay. Just awesome!

Real sad about his passing. First time I heard Chris Cornell's music was the bond theme he wrote for Casino Royale. Although I was late to the grunge scene I still enjoyed it all a lot. Great tribute cover Max!

it's funny because my dad got called to try out for this band, but unfortunately he didnt make it. but I remember this was the song he had to play(along with burden in my hand) and that's how I found out sound garden

Please tell me how you get your toms to sound lower and dead. Mine sound high pitched, with a hollow echo and I hate it.
Many things plays in, from size of drums to wood and drum heads. But I would suggest getting coated drum heads, usually allows for a lower pitch. In this specific case, I've got a coated UV1 from Evans on top, and actually the Tama/Evans stock bottom clear head. There's a Vater Buzz Kill on each tom. Then just tuned pretty low.

I think it's easier to consider de 2nd bar as 3/4, cause the strong beat is always on the 3rd beat.
If you're talking about the 7/4 then yes - the metric subdivision of the 7/4 is definitely 4+3 for this tune! :)

Yeah, that's called metric subdivision - basically how you divide the meter into multiple meters/groupings based on phrasing. The reason why this is 7/4 and not a bar of 4/4 and 3/4 is based on the phrasings of other instruments and especially the vocals. However, the metric subdivision of the 7/4 is split into 4+3, which is especially clear for the drums. Just like "take five" is in 5/4, but with a metric subdivision of 3+2 :)
