I don't get how did so many people even forget Quincies have Vollstanding when its their major powerup, as explained in the previous season.. I guess that's what happens when you watch 435934 anime every season, brain gets fried

It's only really show to be countered in 3 ways. 1: Be Aizen. 2: Have an ability that also changes your sense back to normal 3: Indiscriminately destroy everything around you and hope to hit Shinji in the process.
Shinji's bankai was not shown in the manga but he used it in the novel. Soul society banned his bankai because it is dangerous if he use it when his allies are around. It also useless in one-on-one fight because it requires group of people to activate and his shikai is better in this scenario.
My favorite theory about Shinji is that his Shikai is more useful than his Bankai because his theme is reversing everything. Even the power level of his sword is reversed from how it is for most shinigami.
I'm loving how kubo is altering and adding new things to this arc and especially showing ichigo's training and that twist at the end with his eyes. I think it's safe to say we can expect a Different ending to this arc compared to the manga.

The purpose of stealing the bankai has nothing to do with a power up it's mostly out of spite. While some bankai can be extremely useful, the main reason for stealing them is to break and crush the shinigami physically, mentally and emotionally. Stealing someone's powers/abilities that they're honed for decades and using said power to defeat and kill them is the ultimate form of humiliation. After all this is vengeance for the humiliating defeat of Quincy 1000 years ago.
The song that plays during Shinji using his shikai on bambietta is called everything i lost its a song that shiro sagisu composed years ago for non anime albums he just decided to use this for shinji lol

In case y'all are confused why Shinji needed the pill; The Vizored can train to reach that level and be able to use both hollow and bankai and even unlock Ressurrection(kubo confirmed it on Klub Outside) But they haven't yet The only example we have is Tosen and Ichigo Q&A number 133 in case anyone want to look by themselves

I’d be curious what the effect would be if they just pulled out their masks while fighting without going into Bankai, like if it would have any sort of negative effects on Quincies that fought them. I dont think it was ever stated that Vizored need pills and Shinji didnt even get one in the manga( though he also didnt use his bankai there so there was no reason for him anyway) but still Vizoreds still have way more hollow reiatsu than pill-hollowified captains anyway.

While his Shikai only affects one individual opponent, his Bankai affects a whole group of opponents. A cool little parallel I noticed is while the Soul Reaper Captains gain a Hollowfied Banaki as a comeback, Shinji as the top Visored (being a Hollowfied Soul Reaper) reveals his Banaki finally acknowledging his Soul Reaper Captain side. The build/set up is over, next 5-6 episodes is where the real battles begin. Also for those interested in the dub of this part, it’ll will be available on 5th of August.

The crazy part about Shinji doing what he did was that he took out ALL of the Soldat with his bankai. You don't see another one for the rest of the series. So some people getting mad that I've seen don't realize that shinji just took out the fodder so everybody else could put in work and not worry about the others getting in the way

The power they are using is not a random power up. In the old anime you see the weaker, older version of the ability called "Letzt Stil" used by Ishida to beat Mayuri (when he sucked all the spirit pressure of the environment and blasted Mayuri's Bankai). We also saw the new, improved version these guys have, called the "Vollstandig", being used by Quilge Opie (the dude shown here, who absorbed the monstrous hollow). That's btw when he got the blue wings and halo, not to be confused with his other ability in that fight which he used to trap ichigo, that's another ability that has to do with the letter he had, J, the jail. This means we already have Vollstandig as power-up set up but also the letters which we will see more of in the future.
What’s really interesting about part two so far is that episode sixteen covers chapter number five hundred fifty three Frozen Cross from the manga and we finally got to see Shinji’s Bankai for the first time in the anime since it wasn’t seen in the manga, and it’s good to see it being added to the anime adaptation.

It is not clear to me how in every other reaction to this episode people forget when Ichigo fought against Quilge Opie (that quincy in hueco mundo) who had that angelic ability with blue wings, and plus they remind us in this episode that that fight happened (when Kisuke was explaining how pills work), and how that quincy absorbed that hollow and turned into a monster, and for some reason no one can connect that now these quincy's are using their angelic abilities when they got rid of the Bankai they had stolen.
I'm pretty sure the taking bankais was just to add hopelessness to the situation and humiliate the soul reapers. I don't think they planned to give em back but once they lost em Yhwach said "aight bet".
To answer you guys question about why they couldnt use the Vollständig on top of the bankai is that the bankai is tied to their soul instead of the Vollständig. Only one thing can be tied to their soul at a time. So when they steal a bankai that basically forces the Vollständig out and the bankai takes its place. The only dowside to this is that thwy can only steal the bankai itself. They cant use any of its abilities. Thats why you only see Cang Du have the wings and basic uses of it like making ice
Mayuri so petty he was willing to hangup and let whole soul society wait and get their butt whopped while he figure out how to return Zanpakuto just to spite Urahara 😂. To his credit his top priority was defense of invaded home and then working on rest and he hadn't seen what Kiskue did. But still hilarious to seehow petty he is and Urahara too because he was there all along just wanted to annoy Mayuri.

Anyone else find it weird that ppl say shinjis bankai was underwhelming? It’s almost as if he used it on a bunch of quincy jebronies and not an actual threat, and no, he didnt use it on bambi that was his shikai.

He even says his Bankai is useless in 1v1 fights or when freinds are around because it makes people attack their allies. What's he supposed to do? Roll up on like 8 bosses and say "come at me bros!"?
I loved this episode for shinji especially bc he got his bankai finally shown and got extended fight scene with bambi along with a new ost. The only issue i have that i had in the manga as well when i read this is that shinji never attacked her while his shikai was active. Shinji's new ost fits him well since he loved the jazz music back when he was originally a captain before he became a vizard.
Quincy: Vollständig is a technique the Quincy's always had access to but just couldn't use it if they also had a stolen Bankai. We saw Opie use this technique against Ichigo in Hueco Mundo when he got the form that gave him wings and steal spiritual energy from the ring over his head. Uryu also has the same technique but the out dated version, Quincy: Letzt Stil, that he used against Mayuri.
Think of it like this: Everyone in bleach has their final/true form and their semi-form. For soul reapers, the Zonpakto is the sword form, the shekai (the semi-form) is half/partially what their sword really looks like, and the Bankai is what they really look like and their true/full name. For Hollows, they have their human form and their true form. *For Quincies* they have their normal abilities, like Uryu, then they have that pillar column thing that Uryu used to defeat the Medic Captain when Ichigo invades Soul Society to rescue Rukia. What we didn't know then was that that colom was actually the key/gate to them awakening their full/true power. So it's not that they were given an upgrade, it's that they can finally use *their* full power as well. So TLTR: It's like the Quincies couldn't use their Bankai because they had someone else's Bankai.
I wish they would've flashed back to Ichigo's mom going through Soul Suicide last cour when talking about Hollow poison, it would've been a nice tie-in.

I loved this episode for shinji especially bc he got his bankai finally shown and got extended fight scene with bambi along with a new ost. The only issue i have that i had in the manga as well when i read this is that shinji never attacked her while his shikai was active. Shinji's new ost fits him well since he loved the jazz music back when he was originally a captain before he became a vizard.

We saw Opie use this technique against Ichigo in Hueco Mundo when he got the form that gave him wings and steal spiritual energy from the ring over his head. Uryu also has the same technique but the out dated version, Quincy: Letzt Stil, that he used against Mayuri.

I used to agree with sheera and lupa about myurai (can't spell) but after rewatching bleach, a second time, I think he's the goat
and his body then split into 4 limbs showing he has a presence in each world basically atleast i believe so
Think of it like this: Everyone in bleach has their final/true form and their semi-form. For soul reapers, the Zonpakto is the sword form, the shekai (the semi-form) is half/partially what their sword really looks like, and the Bankai is what they really look like and their true/full name.
For Hollows, they have their human form and their true form.
*For Quincies* they have their normal abilities, like Uryu, then they have that pillar column thing that Uryu used to defeat the Medic Captain when Ichigo invades Soul Society to rescue Rukia. What we didn't know then was that that colom was actually the key/gate to them awakening their full/true power. So it's not that they were given an upgrade, it's that they can finally use *their* full power as well.
So TLTR: It's like the Quincies couldn't use their Bankai because they had someone else's Bankai.
